Learning about autism The old and the new A free workshop aiming to help families, professionals or anyone else caring for children with autism, is coming to Dargaville.

DOC rangers from the Kauri Coast Office in Dargaville celebrated World Ranger Day by spending the day picking up rubbish left by visitors along Ripiro Beach, north and south of Omamari.

This workshop will be presented by Children’s Autism Foundation’s team of family consultants — psychology and behaviour specialist Gera Verheul, occupational therapist Christine Farquharson and Family and Child counsellor, Arletta van den Bosch. The two and a half hour workshop Understanding Autism, and Strategies for Behaviour will be a relaxed and informative event aimed at anyone living or working with children on the autism spectrum. This workshop is offered free thanks to their sponsor

Lotteries Northland although donations are welcomed at the door or through via Children’s Autism Foundation Givealittle page. The event will be held on Thursday, August 23 at the Northern Wairoa War Memorial Hall, 42 Hokianga Road, Dargaville from 6.30–9pm. On Friday, August 24, Children’s Autism will also offer free one-hour consultations between 9am–3pm to answer any questions related to autism such as behaviour, school, anxiety or play. insulation and high visibility,” said DOC deputy director operations, Mike Slater. “DOC rangers are at the core of what we do and equipping them with a new uniform on World Ranger Day is a fitting tribute, recognising their service to New Zealand’s nature and public.” World Ranger Day is an initiative of the International Ranger Federation and individuals and organisations around the world to recognise conservation work. ¢
