Frank R. Turk, who just turned 95, is a distinguished figure in the Deaf and hard-of-hearing community. As an educator, administrator, coach, and advocate for Deaf youth, he emphasized the importance of leaders of all ages working together and sharing resources to strengthen the community.
Turk's legacy includes promoting the SPICE framework, which emphasizes the importance of fostering students' social, physical, intellectual, cultural, and emotional development. His pioneering work has inspired generations and continues to shape best practices for supporting Deaf and hard-of-hearing students in residential schools.
Recognizing his profound contributions, the National Student Life for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing (NSLDHH) honors his legacy through the Frank R. Turk Award of Merit.
This award celebrates individuals who demonstrate exceptional dedication to the growth, development, and empowerment of Deaf and hard-of-hearing youth, embodying the values and principles Turk championed throughout his career.
