Chamber of Commerce celebrates holidays with annual gala

By Justin Criado The NorthSide/NorthShore Chamber of Commerce held its annual holiday gala Dec. 3 at the Priory Hotel in Historic Deutschtown, featuring both Northside residents and business owners. The night was filled with entertainment provided by Wenning Entertainment as well as the Pittsburgh Banjo Club and Urban Impact. A silent auction and photo booth were also featured, while Disco the African Penguin of the Aviary also made an appearance. The chamber recognized its neighborhood initiatives and community service with a slideshow,

which NS/NSCC executive director Robin Rosemary Miller explained was a unique way to show-off. the members’ hardwork “We put together a slideshow of the sample of some of the projects that companies have done over the past year,” Rosemary Miller said. NS/NSCC board president Scott Pipitone further acknowledged Diane Mercer of the Northside Community Development Fund for her work with the chamber and local businesses. “Diane Mercer, who has been instrumental with getting us over a dozen members this year,” Pipitone said of Mercer’s work with local businesses and Chamber.

“She’s out there recruiting new businesses and securing grants.” Pipitone also presented a $1,500 check to Youth Places for its work in the Northside on behalf of the chamber, which presents one Northside organization with donation each year. Diana Bucco of the Buhl Foundation and Juan Garrett, Executive Director of Riverside Center for Innovation, were present to accept the check on the organization’s behalf “All of these events that we do, we try to raise money for charity and foster our other events.,” Pipitone said.
