The Sixth Form Academy at Neath College is a vibrant and dynamic place to study with state-of-theart facilities including our award-winning Sixth Form Academy hub. The Sixth Form Academy provides our students with a supportive, nurturing and academic environment to ensure you are challenged to achieve your full potential. The Sixth Form Academy is committed to providing opportunities for learners to develop their skills alongside their main course of study. Therefore, the majority of our learners will complete the Skills Challenge Certificate. We will prepare you for university life by encouraging independent learning within a sixth form environment.
One of the many benefits of studying at the Academy is the wide range of subject choices. We offer over 38 A Level subjects plus vocational courses, GCSEs, Access to Higher Education courses and the PGCE qualification. Our A Level courses are delivered by experienced staff who are subject experts and achieve consistently high pass rates year after year. The support they offer to students is second to none with high standards continuously maintained. The majority of our students go on to further study and progress onto Higher Education with many attending some of the top universities in the UK, including the Russell Group and Oxbridge.
Making the right choice for AS/A Level study can be the key to your success. Therefore, Sixth Form Academy staff will provide you with comprehensive advice and guidance regarding combinations of AS Level subjects. We will help you to choose subjects that you enjoy and have the motivation to learn, and that will allow you to progress along your chosen career path.

Gifted and Talented Excellence Programme (GATE)
As a member of the Sixth Form Academy, you may be eligible to apply for our Gifted and Talented Excellence (GATE) programme. This is a structured specialist programme of support for those learners with exceptional GCSE results (minimum of 3A* and the rest A Grades at GCSE). Those applying to competitive universities, particularly those in the Russell Group, Oxford and Cambridge, will receive personalised support through our Gifted and Talented Excellence programme. Application to competitive universities is about more than excellent grades. You must make an informed choice regarding the subjects you want to pursue, understand the competitive selection process and systems, submit a polished application and excel at interview.
While on the GATE programme, you will be placed into a specific tutorial group which will cater to your needs and aspirations. The aim is to broaden your horizons beyond your chosen subjects and to promote analytical reasoning and discussion. This is invaluable preparation for university interviews. Some of the areas covered during tutorial will include: q Political processes and goals q Beliefs, values and moral reasoning q The ethical and environmental implications of scientific development. These issues are linked to current events.
The Extended Project Qualification:
You will have the opportunity to complete the extended project qualification which allows you to research, design and carry out an independent project which could be related to an academic subject that you are studying. You will be supported throughout completion of your project and will be given the specialised help of the relevant teaching staff.
By completing this qualification, you will: q Become more critical, reflective and independent in your learning q Develop and apply decision-making and problemsolving skills q Increase your planning, research, analysis, synthesis, evaluation and presentation skills q Learn to apply new technologies confidently q Demonstrate creativity, initiative and enterprise.
The GATE programme will also give you the opportunity to further enhance your skills through additional qualifications and competitions.

Estyn reported that in A Level classes, teachers deliver lively sessions that engage learners well. They help structure learners’ understanding of concepts, and encourage them to develop wider subject interests.
NPTC Group of Colleges is part of the Seren Network: Supporting Wales’ Brightest Programme designed to support Wales’ brightest students, achieve their academic potential and gain access to leading universities. As part of the hub, students will have access to: q accurate information q provision of super-curricular activities q a peer group of high achieving students q links to university students and recent graduates from similar backgrounds.
Through the Seren hubs, we can offer students additional practical help and guidance that they need throughout the application process. This will prove to be advantageous when applying to the top universities. It provides such a great opportunity for pupils to be a part of a network of likeminded students who share similar goals.
INtroduction TO A LEvels
This course is designed to prepare you for AS Level study or Level 3 courses. It is an academic course that will enable you to build upon your GCSE profile if you currently haven’t met the entry requirements required for an AS/ AS/A Level or Level 3 programmes, or if you need to improve your GCSE profile for your chosen career. Entry requirements A minimum of 1 C grade and 3 D grades at GCSE to include Maths or English and a Science. Alternatively, a recent knowledge of working within these subjects.
