A Brief History of Liberty Hall 11 Broadway Formerly known as London Tower First known owners: Tristram Coffin Jr. (1746–99) and Mary Pinkham Coffin (1747–1814)

Undated, unsigned painting of one-story Liberty Hall Like most of the houses on Broadway, Liberty Hall was originally a small fishing shack, with additions and revisions made over the years. In fact, Edward F. Underhill, writing in 1888, stated that ―extensive changes have been made within and without, and the fisherman’s cottage is no longer seen.‖ A painting in the NHA collection shows a late-nineteenth-century Liberty Hall, with a red roof, green shutters, and a decorative roof balustrade with a wooden bust of an unidentified man in the center. It was not the only house in the village sporting a bust, which seems to have been a popular embellishment during the period. The earliest photograph of Liberty Hall in the NHA archive, dated circa 1880, is similar to the painting.
