How It All Began

It’s June, 1991 in Erie, Pa., my old-fashioned landline phone rings.

“Hello, Toni?”

“Yes..?”

“Come!”

That was Bob Colley, President of the Realtors Association of Maui, on the end of the line. I had called him for help on a very big, lifedetermining decision. Should I take a major chance in life? Should I give up my 25-year-long job as Managing Editor at the Erie, Pa. newspaper, move to the beautiful island of Maui and establish Homes & Land real estate magazine.

“Come!”

Before he issued that gentle command Colley said he had talked to several agents and they agreed the colorful mass distributed magazine would benefit home and condo sales on Maui. So, site unseen, I purchased a franchise ($40k at the time ... a whole lot of money for a humble journalist.)

In each area of Maui Realtors have weekly meetings. By the time I came to my first meeting (Lahaina) several realtors were ready to sign up. We soon had a big, bright way to introduce residents and visitors to life in Maui and it had been an incredible 35 years.

Above all, it has been the opportunity to meet good friends who have influenced my life.
