The Royal Canadian Mounted Police or Royal Gendarmerie of Canada, also known by the acronym RCMP and colloquially called the Mounties or the Force, is a national and federal force in Canada that offers total policing services. The RCMP is also known as one of the agencies of the Ministry of Public Safety Canada.

The RCMP is composed of a highly specialized team of well-trained men and women who work hand in hand to keep Canada peaceful and to ensure the safety of the Canadians. The police force has a diverse community, which has greatly helped them enhance their understanding on various cultural issues and come up with a balanced approach to problem-solving.

What does RCMP do?

The Mounties are the ones who are responsible for maintaining public security, peace and order, preventing crimes, and enforcing the Canadian laws at a federal level not only in Canada but also in the country's eight provinces, 600 aboriginal communities, over 150 municipalities, three international airports, and other three territories (on a contract basis). But they do not, in any way, offer policing services both at municipal and provincial levels in larger cities and provinces like Quebec and Ontario.

These two large and very populous provinces had formed and maintained their own provincial police forces known as the SĂťretĂŠ du QuĂŠbec and the Ontario Provincial Police, respectively. Unlike any typical police force in the world, the RCMP serves as the nation's municipal, federal, national, and provincial policing body. Aside from law enforcement and policing services, the RCMP officers are also the ones who conduct thorough crime investigations, maintain community relations, and hold public awareness.

How to become a member of RCMP? In order for you to become a member of the RCMP uni on, you will need to apply for the position and meet the qualifications and requirements set by the organization. Before applying, you will also need to undergo and pass the two basic medical assessments: the hearing and vision assessment examinations.

Once you have completed the two assessments and the qualifications and requirements, you will need to proceed to the application process which includes the submission of your online application, taking and passing the RCMP entrance examination, completion of forms, issuance of security clearance, completing your pre-employment polygraph examination, undergoing and passing the full health assessment, and going through field investigation.

If the hiring body finds you medically fit, suitable for the position, and security cleared, you can then proceed to the extensive 26-week cadet training program at the RCMP Training Academy (Depot) and start your RCMP journey.
