SUPPORTING PURPOSE. INSPIRING GROWTH. BUILDING THE FUTURE.
It is my distinct honor and pleasure to welcome you to the Niswonger Performing Arts Center of Northwest Ohio as we look to IGNITE Your Life with Star Powered Entertainment. Each year we strive to bring the very finest, most exciting and captivating artists, musicians, and productions to our stage for you to enjoy. We realize that we have set the bar high each year in who we bring to the Niswonger stage. It is a challenge we delight in to make each season appealing to our growing number of patrons. We can’t thank you enough for making the Niswonger your trusted destination for your cultural and entertainment desires.
The Niswonger Performing Arts Center is an integral part of the mission of The Van Wert County Foundation. As we prepare for a new season, I am inspired by the passions of those who IGNITE this facility with star packed entertainment.
We are excited about this year’s artists and can’t wait to ignite your life with the star powered entertainment we have chosen. A few artists are back by popular demand, but many will be new to our stage. Because of you, our great audience, we are fortunate to have many performers who desire to come to our stage. We attempt to bring family-friendly, variety, and just enough edge in our programming to attract new audiences each year.
Our job is to leave the world in a better place than we found it for the next generation. That is why I believe so passionately in the work of the Niswonger Performing Arts Center. It is why extraordinary people like Edna Evans, Gaylord Saltzgaber, Mary Irene Eisenhauer, John Alspach, Scott and Nikki Niswonger, our Season Sponsors Statwide Ford-Lincoln, Van Wert Federal Savings Bank, Chuck and Karen Koch, and our show sponsors, and so many others have joined philanthropic efforts. Our donors are sometimes generations apart or from different eras, but they all believe in the magic and the impact of music and performing arts. They believe that the power of the arts is integral to a strong and vibrant future for this region!
Starting out with Country superstar and now big screen actor Trace Adkins, and ending with one of Broadway’s biggest and most beloved stories of all-time, The Sound of Music, we know you will want to get your tickets early and often. See our schedule of ticket releases and take advantage of discounts and exciting benefits.
The Van Wert County Foundation is in existence for one reason: To give future generations the best possible life. Our tagline is, “Supporting Purpose, Inspiring Growth, and Building the Future.” This has been the essence of our donors, trustees, and staff since 1925! We give access to education through scholarships. We provide monetary and knowledge resources to organizations who are working to improve our community. We plant fields and trees. We provide pause for artistic expression. We empower.
We are also excited to announce a new building campaign which will help us attract even more programming in the future for you to enjoy. If you can help us, we would be forever grateful. See our insert and pictures on how you can help!
We IGNITE the energy of philanthropy because we want to leave our future generations with resources to succeed.
We can’t wait to get this season started and IGNITE your life with our Niswonger Star Powered Entertainment! PAUL HOVERMAN Niswonger Performing Arts Center Executive Director

WHY IS ENTERTAINMENT IMPORTANT?
SANCTUS REAL APRIL 14 7:30 PM 3 NISWONGER PERFORMING ARTS CENTER / 419.238.6722 / NPACVW.ORG
Community happens when people share experiences together. Every audience is a collection of individuals seeking an escape for different reasons, but they all walk away with a fresh perspective - a keen outlook that is the result of the senses being engaged and ignited by something that either inspired, educated or entertained. And that is why we diligently endeavor to fill the season with a diverse offering that satisfies and stretches the perception of the performing arts.

BONEY JAMES SATURDAY . OCTOBER 20 I 7:30 PM

It’s been a full quarter-century since a young saxophonist and composer released his debut recording as a leader, Trust. He just released his 16th album, this one titled Honestly. If you sense a direct line between those titles, you’ve already come a long way toward understanding what motivates the four-time GRAMMY nominee and multi-platinum-selling musician.
11
“I’m fighting the good fight to be my own artist and not be pigeonholed,” says the genre-blurring James. “With a record’s title I always try to find something that will communicate the feeling I get when I listen to it. The feeling I get with this music is a sense of sincerity and intimacy. The word ‘honestly’ really reflects how I aspire to live my life and create my music. One of the great things about music is how powerful it is. It can totally transport people. These are interesting times we are living in and the one thing I can do with the skills that I have is to make music that evokes a feeling and takes people somewhere… to do what I can to try and make the world a more pleasant place.”

Experience Christian Pop-Rockers, Sanctus Real as they begin a new era. With a fresh voice on lead vocals, and expanding their songwriting – they are igniting a new modern sound for the band while performing all their hits. Their focus remains on writing songs that move people toward an understanding of their identity in Christ. After 20 years of touring, 24 radio hits and full album sales exceeding 750,000, Sanctus Real has become a trusted source of encouraging songs of faith. With a new lead
singer in place, the trio began writing songs that became songs set to lead Dustin Lolli’s soulful vocals. The sound is noticeably different from the brand’s original, but the focus remains on hope found in an unchanging Savior. While the new songs are certainly influenced by the outward changes in life, the message is centered on how change can bring about personal redemption. Original members, Mark Graalman and Chris Rohman, who began the band in a garage in Toledo, Ohio, are joined by Dustin Lolli.

Ted Chapin, President of the Rodgers & Hammerstein Organization, says: “I waited for a moment when we could rediscover THE SOUND OF MUSIC as it was originally created. Because of the enormous success of the film, few were aware that it started life as a hit Broadway show—and a very big hit at that! The artists behind this production embraced what the authors wrote, looked at it all through modern eyes and, in so doing, found depth and resonance that has been recognized by critics and audiences across the country. It’s like visiting an old friend but finding yourself surprised as well. It’s also a reminder of why this show is such an evergreen.”

SATURDAY . SEPTEMBER 29 I 7:30 PM
Under the Streetlamp is a concert celebration of classic hits of the American radio songbook from the 1950s-1970s featuring tight harmonies and slick dance moves that take audiences back to an era of sharkskin suits, flashy cars and martini shakers. A time when, on hot summer nights, people would gather under a streetlamp to sing from the heart in harmony with their friends. With irresistible rapport, Under the Streetlamp offers audiences the opportunity to get to know four critically acclaimed stars of stage and screen, Eric Gutman, Christopher Kale Jones, Brandon Wardell and Shonn Wiley. While each performer gets his moment in the spotlight, it is their synergy and charisma as a group that has drawn an extremely devoted International following.

SUNDAY . DECEMBER 16 I 3:00 PM
The Western Front, Christmas, 1914. Out of the violence comes a silence, then a song. A German soldier steps into No Man’s Land singing “Stille Nacht.” Thus begins an extraordinary night of camaraderie, music, peace. All Is Calm tells a remarkable true story, told in the words and songs of the men who lived it. “If you’re looking for a truly unique and engaging Christmas event, you shouldn’t miss this new release from the 9-member professional male vocal ensemble Cantus. Billed as a “radio musical drama”, All is Calm presents songs, poetry, letters, and journal excerpts relating to the extraordinary World War I incident known as “the Christmas Truce”, in which on Christmas Eve, 1914, soldiers from the trenches on both sides of the front lines in Belgium spontaneously initiated a cease-fire like no other, a celebration not only of Christmas — carols were sung back and forth, trees were lit with candles, food and drink was passed around, pictures were taken, a game of soccer was played — but also of the basic humanity all of these men shared, as they helped each other bury the dead that for days had lain unattended across no man’s land.” - by DAVID VERNIER, Classics Today

SATURDAY . FEBRUARY 16 I 7:30 PM
RELEASE DATE: 11/2/18 OC $45 / ORL $45 / MC $35 / MRL $35 / BC $25 / BRL $25
The King’s Singers were officially born on May 1st 1968, formed by six recently-graduated choral scholars from King’s College, Cambridge. Their vocal line-up was (by chance) two countertenors, a tenor, two baritones and a bass, and the group has never wavered from this formation since. 2018 marks the 50th birthday of the group, and to celebrate, The King’s Singers are presenting their anniversary season: GOLD. Everything in this GOLD season, from triple-album to book and concert tour, celebrates the amazing musical heritage of The King’s Singers, and also looks at the bright future of vocal music in all its forms. What really distinguished the group in its early years was its musical diversity. The King’s Singers were a weekly fixture on prime-time television, celebrating popular music never usually touched by choral ensembles, and their unique British charm, combined with their musical craft, captured audiences’ hearts the world over. The group has consistently been welcomed on the world’s great stages throughout its history – from London’s Royal Albert Hall to the Opera House in Sydney or New York’s Carnegie Hall – as well as being ambassadors for musical excellence across the globe. Two Grammy® Awards, an Emmy® Award, and a place in Gramophone magazine’s inaugural Hall of Fame sit among the numerous accolades bestowed upon the group. ENRICH CCS Presenting Sponsor

They return once again to dazzle, impress, and amaze. This time, The Texas Tenors are adding a very special treat. The Tenors will perform their nationally acclaimed patriotic show “Let Freedom Sing” and will invite local high school singers to join them onstage. David Doubilet is one of the most prolific living photographers at National Geographic magazine, and a legend for his groundbreaking work. Jennifer Hayes, an aquatic biologist and a globally published photojournalist, is his wife and underwater partner. Doubilet has joked—we think he’s joking—that he’s spent more of his waking hours underwater than on dry land. The two will lead you on a visual journey from their most recent National Geographic assignments, from the tropics to the polar ice. Then, journey south to the cold ice-filled waters of Antarctica, where the team moves through and under the ice to capture images of the hidden world of the leopard seal, penguins, shipwrecks, and Doubilet’s newest work on the sculptural beauty of icebergs. Finally, follow the team north to Canada’s Gulf of St. Lawrence, an extraordinary world of whales, wolfish, salmon and the harp seal, a remarkable creature fighting to survive in a world of shrinking sea ice. Go beyond the published story with Doubilet and Hayes, as they share never before seen images from their assignments. The Van Wert Area Performing Arts Foundation, who is responsible for operating the Niswonger, is starting a campaign to raise the additional funds to leverage against the $200,000 from the State of Ohio.
EMAIL: ________________________________________________________________________
We recently received a generous gift of $100,000 and just this spring were awarded a $200,000 reimbursable grant from the Ohio State Facilities Fund. These funds have been a catalyst to look into addressing our shortcomings with additional space and amenities. With $300,000 already committed, we feel we need to raise an additional $500,000 to fully address our needs.

THE SOLUTION
BE PART OF THE FUTURE
Additionally, as the school drama department has developed and grown, so has their need for space to build and store props and set designs. Nearly all of our larger productions require space to store “dead cases once they are unloaded, until they are able to be re-loaded following a production. We have had to ask permission of school band and choir directors to use their rooms, creating extra work and cooperation on their behalf. This also poses special security concerns. With good cooperation with the school and a lot of creativity, we have been able to make things work until now.
If you would like to contribute to the STAR POWERED ADDITION campaign, your tax-deductible gift may be sent to:
After eleven years of tremendous growth, thanks to your support, we have found some challenges with our facility that most never see or hear about. As we have grown in program opportunities, we often run out of dressing room space. We have no laundry facilities to offer touring troupes. We have had to ask to use school facilities which often are not available or obtrusive in their school day. Each large production requires production space for the road manager to conduct business while the show is setting up. Our hired and volunteer crew have no backstage bathroom facilities or break/dining area of their own to use.
