GRANADA

THE POETIC PATH OF LOVE

G

ranada, the city south of Spain, is known to the world through Washington Irving’s “Tales of the Alhambra”. The American writer told the story of a Moorish king who sent his prince off to study art and science, but the prince soon fell in love with a Christian princess. However, the prince had to return to Granada due to religious conflict and to keep the promise he made with

the Christian king that the princess shall remain a Christian. The story has become a symbol of young love against impossibility. Besides romance, Granada is also the last stronghold of the Moors before they were conquered by the Christians, leaving only Moorish arts and architecture for us to see today.

ALHAMBRA

THE CROWN JEWEL OF GRANADA Alhambra Palace is the must-see highlight of Granada, or even of Spain! It is wise to buy a ticket in advance because the number of visitors per day is limited and there will certainly be a long line of visitors waiting to buy a ticket. Alhambra Palace is divided into 3 zones - Alcazaba, Palacios Nazaríes, and Generalife – each with distinctive architectural design and décor on the walls, pillars, ceilings, and arches, reflecting the finest form of Moorish arts.

Alhambra

• Alcazaba, or the fortress, is the first zone you’ll enter and one of the oldest parts of Alhambra. This is where you’ll see the famous Palace of Charles and its unordinary design. The palace was built by Charles V, a Holy Roman Emperor, as a residence, and although the exterior has a square shape, the interior is marvelously round. The clever design is the work of Pedro Machuca and arguably the first classic Renaissance architecture in Spain. • Palacios Nazaríes sits at the back of the complex and further divided into the outer and inner areas. The outer area was mainly used for meetings while the inner area was private spaces for the sultan and the concubines. Comares palace acts as the entrance of the sultan’s private residence and it welcomes all visitors with an impressive courtyard named Courtyard of the Myrles which highlights a large pool reflecting the heavenly sky. Deeper into the palace is the Court of the Lion and Hall of two sisters, some of the most photographed attractions in Spain. The open courtyard is known for the fountain with 12 marble lions while the connecting Hall of two sisters is marvelously decorated in marble and detailed plasterworks. •Take a break from fine art and return to the beauty of nature at the Courtyard of water channel in Generalife. The courtyard boasts beautiful pools and fountains surrounded by peaceful and romantic garden. The buildings in Generalife may look simple and unrefined compared to other parts of Alhambra, but this simplicity and peacefulness humbly create a relaxing atmosphere for the sultans when they wanted to get away from the official affairs of the palace. The resort is more like a village, with 24 riverbank suites, 6 mountain villas, 3 top private villas, organic farmland which provides ingredient for restaurants, and entrepreneur hall, Chongxiu Academy on the hillside, convention center and 2 full-time restaurants. 9 independent villa and 24 suites, named after poems and 24 solar terms respectively, show stories of clouds gathering and spreading, stories of season changes, stories of lights and time through a traditional way that has been passed thousands of years in China. Aligned along the waterway, seemingly arbitrary, the location has been carefully calculated, which makes each Villa has an open landscape view and guests could enjoy calm and peace without leaving home. As Huachuan Group’s first boutique resort, Pulian Mountain Resort Manor is like brand-name couture with a perpetual mysterious style. There is no reinforced concrete, touch bricks and marbles. In this resort, you will see the nature, feel the nature, and feel the green countryside of Western Sichuan. Being eyeful of green, the resort is surrounded by plenty of plants and a holiday atmosphere. Walking in this resort, you will see views various from every step and the scene has been changing with the passing hills. When you look at terraces, there is a speechless beauty. The paddy fields in spring and summer are charming, and the golden ears of wheat in autumn are most the attractive.

PULIAN There are different tours waiting for you to explore in every corner across this nation, and every hotel and resort tries to attract you with its so-called unique characteristic. There is only one resort that has hidden itself quietly in the dense woods from beginning, being neither flattering nor low-browed secular, as a isolated house on the top of the mountain. Designers easily integrate lush plants with natural scenery. Its exquisite design can be seen everywhere, such as soft-color roof, colorful wall decoration and so on. It embodies respect for nature everywhere. This building is built with natural materials and contemporary style to express traditional design, while retaining all trees and the original natural appearance as far as possible. 72 NOWTRAVELASIA.CO M / J AN UAR Y - F EBR UAR Y 2 01 9

The landscape here advocates “simplicity is beauty”. The choice of smallscale planting of shrubs, flowers and climbing plants is not only because they are easy to manage, but also highlights the contrast between the resort itself and the surrounding environment. The design inspiration comes from the Linpan in West Sichuan. Designers use elements with Chongzhou characteristics in the design of quiet paths, abundant overlapping water, and even damaged bridges. Therefore you walk inside this resort, you wouldn’t feel that everything around you is deliberately designed, but naturally grew together.
