projects that provide much-needed work opportunities for the people of Matjhabeng,” says Tshediso Tlali, spokesperson for the executive mayor

“We reaffirm our commitment to proper governance and accountability in the management of funds We confirm collaboration with the Department of Public Works and Infrastructure and other national departments to expand opportunities for our residents ”

Clarity owed

MARTI WILL

The Matjhabeng Local Municipality will be held accountable and clarity on the long-overdue housing site allocations in Western Holdings (Rheederpark Extension 2) will be demanded Estelle Dansey, DA councillor for the ward, says that for more than 15 years, the residents of Western Holdings, also known as the “Golf Course area ” , have endured a cycle of false promises and political manipulation Time and again, residents were told that site allocations would finally take place, yet nothing has materialised

“We now demand immediate action from the mayor, Thanduxolo Khalipha We demand that he provides a transparent and unambiguous update on the status of the land donation and the site allocation process Also there must be a formal community meeting where the Department of Human Settlements must face residents directly, and a public commitment from the municipality to deliver on promises that have been outstanding for over 15 years, ” says Dansey

She says despite the dedicated efforts from herself and her predecessor, former councillor Igor Scheurkogel, progress remains stalled

“The last official feedback claimed that the municipality is ‘awaiting finalisation of a land donation from Harmony’ Yet residents confirm that Harmony has already finalised this donation If that is the case, the municipality has no justification for further delays The people of ward 35 deserve transparency These sites cannot continue to be dangled as a political carrot, used to lure desperate residents during election campaigns,” says Dansey

She has formally submitted questions to council regarding this matter

“I have received no substantive response

Silence is no longer acceptable The people of ward 35 have waited long enough They deserve clarity, fairness and delivery, not excuses ”

Hoop van die week

Vriende is nodig

Failure to govern has led to citizens’ awakening to reality

The concerned residents of Kutloanong and Odendaalsrus:

This is a copy of the letter we addressed to the executive mayor of Matjhabeng, Thanduxolo Khalipha

Following the 2021 local government elections (LGE), you made a clear and bold promise to restore dignity and progress in the Matjhabeng Local Municipality We acknowledge and appreciate the visible efforts made under your leadership thus far - they are commendable and do not go unnoticed

However, as active citizens and stakeholders in the future of our communities, we can no longer remain silent about the appalling state of Sand Du Plessis Street and the broader collapse of key infrastructure and services, particularly in Kutloanong and Odendaalsrus

Sand Du Plessis Street, once a crucial lifeline connecting our people, now stands as a symbol of institutional failure The street has become a permanent construction site, plagued by delays, shoddy workmanship, and the cycle of incompetent contractors siphoning municipal funds without delivering results Oversight inspec-

SEPTEMBER GENERAL:

tion, a constitutional duty of Council, is nowhere be found

Beyond roads, our once-thriving sports and recreation sector has collapsed The Sipho Mutsi Sports Centre and Kutloanong Stadium – built to uplift and empower our youth – now lie in ruins They have become white elephants, their potential wasted due to mismanagement, corruption, and the lack of political will to maintain or restore them

This letter is more than a complaint

It is a call to action

We, the people, will no longer wait for change We are organising We are mobilising We will stand united – working class citizens, taxi associations, business forums, religious leaders, unemployed youth, and every affected citizen – to hold this administration accountable

To the leaders copied in this letter: You have failed your people Your silence and inaction have made you complicit And when the next elections come your names, and your betrayal, will be remembered and spoken in every street and every home

Kutloanong and Odendaalsrus have risen, we are wide awake, and we will not be silent

Sewerage complications continue to escalate

Concerned resident of ward 11, Matjhabeng:

We, the residents of Bronville (ward 11), are seriously being mistreated

Our municipality is not helping us with the sewage problem we are living with We are experiencing an unpleasant lifestyle due to sewerage overspills and overflows

To top it all, one of our own people is selling us out and saying that they are helping us by being used by municipal officials to do their work

We have elderly people and babies experiencing these bad smells and cannot use toilets due to this problem You go to the toilet and flush once when you go out to the shops to go buy products, your waste passes you by on your way to the shop How embarrassing, and our pleas fall on deaf ears We ask the people in authority to please come and assist us in this matter because it seems like the construction mafia crisis has now shifted to a

sewerage mafia crisis

These incidents occur due the very same people that we think are helping the community, who turn around and sabotage the sewerage systems, causing them to overflow

Look up some pictures and see for yourself what we are experiencing in Bronville Contractors do nothing, yet they get paid huge salaries for doing just that nothing These are the things that needs to be investigated and fixed If needs be, our president, Cyril Ramaphosa, should to be told about these municipal workers and officials that are not doing their work and shirking their responsibilities, causing the wellbeing of community members to be sidelined as well We need a working government In addition, we as resident need to band together and learn to take care of our own systems Even when you log a call with officials or municipal representatives, they do not come in time to help By the time they do arrive, the situation has worsened
