Loerie celebrates long-awaited sports field opening

THE excitement was palpable as the community gathered to witness the official opening of the newly renovated Loerie Sports Field on Saturday, March 8, marking a joyous milestone for local sports enthusiasts.

The Loerie Blues Rugby team had the honour of playing the first game on the revamped grounds, taking on the formidable United Barbarians.

Despite the team’s 31-14 loss, the spirited residents were unfazed, enjoying the long-awaited

opportunity to enjoy rugby on home turf once again.

The multi-purpose field, designed to host soccer, rugby, netball, and cricket, underwent significant upgrades funded through the Municipal Infrastructure Grant (MIG) at a cost of more than R9 million.

Kouga Executive Mayor, Hattingh Bornman, cut the ribbon, opening the facility, in August last year, after the completion of the project. It was handed over to Community Services in September 2024. However, the facility required

additional time for the pitch to mature before it was game-ready.

The upgraded project included:

• Building of the boundary wall – to secure the sports field

• Building of clubhouse

• Installation of toilets and system

• Building a new netball court

• Building of new cricket court

• Building of rugby/soccer pitch

• Building of seating arrangements

• Building of caretaker house

• Installation of borehole

• Installation of lights

"The opening of the Loerie Sports Field is a testament to our commitment to investing in community development and providing opportunities for our youth,” said Bornman. “Sport has the power to unite, uplift, and inspire, and I have no doubt that this facility will become a hub of talent and camaraderie for years to come."

Successful event hosted to address fire, flooding in Sea Vista

RAZAAN PLAATJIES

THE Sarah Baartman District Municipality (SBDM), in collaboration with Kouga Municipality, non-profit organisation, Masikhathalelaneni, Sarah Baartman West Fire Prevention Association, and Working on Fire, hosted a successful Risk Reduction Education and Awareness Event on March 13 in Sea Vista, St Francis Bay.

The event was also attended and supported by Amandla Omoya Trust, Eskom, the Department of Community Safety, and the Department of Economic Development, Environment and Tourism.

Athenkosi Diniso, SBDM Portfolio Councillor for Community Services and Infrastructure Development, said the initiative was aimed at addressing multi-hazard risks in Sea Vista, an area highly susceptible to fires and floods.

“The event formed part of SBDM’s commitment to making disaster and fire services more proactive rather than reactive,” said Diniso.

To further support disaster relief efforts, he said that SBDM has a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Masikhathalelaneni to provide emergency relief materials to fire and disaster victims.

Diniso said that the organisation has also introduced the use of “fireballs” - a self-activating fire suppression device that activates within three to seven seconds upon contact with a naked flame.

“This innovative tool is particularly effective in informal settlement areas where fire risks are heightened,” said Diniso.

He further said that Amandla Omoya Trust has pledged its continued support to Masikhathalelaneni to ensure rapid disaster relief services.

The Trust has also committed R2 million in disaster relief funding should a disaster be

declared in the Kouga area.

At the event, SBDM handed over 88 fireballs to Kouga Municipality, represented by Ward 1 Councillor, Nozuko Ntshota.

As previously reported, Masikhathalelaneni was initially established in 2017 by Freddie van Rooyen to assist community members who have been affected by fires, floods, and other related disasters.

To address the growing concern of rapid-spreading shack fires in the region, the organisation launched the Fire Ball Outreach Project, joined by Sarah Baartman District Municipality Executive Mayor, Deon de Vos,

in 2024.

The project seeks to empower the community with the tools and skills needed to combat fires effectively.

Van Rooyen said that he initially purchased the first few fireballs with money from his pocket and has continued to encourage municipalities and businesses to buy into the initiative.

He said that he is thankful that Amandla Omoya Trust and the SBDM have bought into his initiative, which has enabled them to distribute a total of 189 fireballs to specific community leaders throughout Kouga who

are sober-minded and can react quickly. The towns that have received fireballs are Jeffreys Bay, Loerie, Patensie, Humansdorp, and St Francis Bay (Sea Vista).

These fireballs have been placed at strategic points within the community.

“I believe in the fireballs, especially after testing it for myself, and it works effectively. Buying into my initiative means a lot to me and it is a dream come true,” said Van Rooyen.

He said that the fireball minimises the risk of fires spreading to other shacks, especially in Sea Vista, which has been identified as a hotspot area for fire disasters.

Van Rooyen said that the fireball, powered by safe and reliable lithium, is designed to be activated when it encounters open flames. Upon activation, the fireball rapidly disperses the fire, effectively acting as a fire extinguisher that can suppress and contain the blaze within seconds.

“When fire breaks out in informal settlements, it quickly spreads and between 13 and 20 shacks can be burned down, but if the fireball is used, it stops the fire in its tracks and the fire does not spread,” said Van Rooyen.

Speaking after the Risk Reduction Education and Awareness Event, he said that he commends the SBDM for bringing multiple stakeholders together to host the event.

“When I first began promoting this initiative, I believed that it would be the solution we need to deal with fires. I believe that this initiative will expand throughout the Eastern Cape and throughout South Africa’s poorest communities who desperately need assistance with fire disasters,” said Van Rooyen.

Residents are strongly encouraged to save emergency numbers such as 112 or the Sarah Baartman District Disaster Toll-Free number 0800 222 238 for quick access in the event of an emergency.

Educational campaign for pet owners in Sea Vista

RAZAAN PLAATJIES

WITH approximately 3 000 dogs and nearly 100 cats residing in Sea Vista, St Francis Bay, St Francis Animal Rescue has made it their mission to go door to door, educating pet owners about the Kouga Local Municipality Animals By-Law and encouraging sterilisation to reduce the number of animals.

Susan Rae Fox, founder and chairperson of the non-profit organisation, St Francis Animal Rescue, said that they have been working in the impoverished township of Sea Vista since 2014, when the organisation was first launched. Since then, she said, volunteers from the organisation have worked consistently to teach dog and cat owners about the importance of sterilisation to reduce the birth of kittens and puppies and the neglect and cruelty that often stems from this.

To assist dog and cat owners, Fox said they had introduced a feeding campaign that involved subsidising good quality pet food and selling it at a very affordable price through participating spaza stores.

She said that they also donate food to dogs during outreach programmes and distribute a bag of food to each owner who brings their dog or cat for a health check.

“Since the outset, St Francis Animal Rescue has vaccinated thousands of puppies to prevent the spread of contagious diseases, including rabies. We deworm pets and regularly treat them for tick and flea control,” said Fox.

She further said that their bathing station, where puppies and dogs are washed and groomed, has gone a long way towards encouraging dog owners to bring their animals indoors at night and keep them safe from addicts and predators roaming the streets armed with knives, pangas, and poison.

“We have also been highly successful in removing hundreds of dogs from chains through an assisted fencing and sterilisation campaign,” said Fox.

Despite their "Open Your Eyes & Sterilise" initiative, she said the number of dogs in the Sea Vista community continues to increase as the informal squatter camps grow and new residents move into the area from other provinces and outside South Africa.

Fox said that there is currently a population of some 7 000 residents in Sea Vista, and they estimate they own approximately 3 000 dogs. Fortunately, the number of cats is much smaller, with fewer than 100 counted.

Fox said they were determined to reduce the number of dogs in the area and embarked on an educational campaign to inform pet owners about the current Kouga Local Municipality Animals By-Law to create awareness of pet-keeping rules and the consequences of not abiding by these.

Some regulations of

municipality.

• It is preferable that dogs and cats be sterilised.

• No breeding is allowed without a permit from the municipality.

• All pets must be provided with shelter, food, and water and kept in a securely fenced yard.

• Keeping a dog on a chain is against the law, and dogs must be kept off the streets.

• Owners must make an effort to stop their dogs from barking and being a nuisance.

• Farm animals must not be kept in areas where people are living.

“In conjunction with a proactive team from Law Enforcement and representatives from

the SPCA, we have participated in educational campaigns, distributing leaflets explaining the Kouga by-laws, to reduce the number of dogs and keep them confined to the safety of their fenced yards, provided with shelter, food, and water,” said Fox.

She said that there is little awareness of these rules within the community of Sea Vista, and the volunteers of St Francis Animal Rescue have committed to making sure that, through ongoing education, assistance, and advice, they will make it clear how animals must be treated in Sea Vista and the penalties that are in place for owners who are not following these simple and humane by-laws.

Propella and KWFCDT launch multimedia programme

PROPELLA Business Incubator and the Kouga Wind Farm Community Development Trust (KWFCDT) have partnered to launch the Multi-Media Creators Programme targeting the KWFCDT beneficiary communities: Umzamowethu/Oyster Bay, Sea Vista, KwaNomzamo, and Kruisfontein.

This interactive programme is a DigiTech initiative designed to equip aspiring multi-media creators with essential skills covering digital training, business incubation, connecting creators with the multi-media industry within the Eastern Cape, and connecting creators to Development Funding Institutions (DFIs) to thrive in the fast-evolving media landscape.

On the 6th of March 2025, the Multi-Media Programme officially onboarded 30 participants, joined by Siyabulela Zondani, Projects Operations Officer at the Kouga Windfarm Community Development Trust (KWFCDT), and Sinovuyo Shoco, Economic Development Officer at Kouga Municipality.

Propella’s Masa Mlamla welcomed participants with an overview of the programme, emphasising the importance of bridging digital gaps in the multimedia industry to unlock more development opportunities within KWFCDT communities.

KFCDT’s Siya Zondani highlighted that the recent expansion of wind turbines across wind farms has created a growing demand for creatives in drone operation, photography, videography, digital content creation, and other multi-media services — paving the way for more inclusive economic participation.

Kouga Municipality’s Sinovuyo Shoco further cemented the munic-

ipality’s commitment to supporting local businesses, urging creators to utilise the opportunities and platforms offered by the Local Economic Development Office to formalise and grow their businesses.

Addressing the Digital Shift

With the recent TikTok ban in the United States, over 170 million accounts were restricted, leaving many American digital content creators devastated as their primary source of income was disrupted overnight. This sudden shift, which led to the restriction of over 170 million accounts in the United States, has served as a stark reality check for South Africa’s digital creation industry, highlighting the urgent need for creators to re-evaluate how they protect and take ownership of their digital content.

There is an urgent need to nurture and formalise the multi-media industry, ensuring that creators have full ownership of their craft, which will not only empower individual creators but also elevate the industry standards and foster innovation.

PwC’s Africa Entertainment and Media Outlook 2024–2028 outlines the overview of the Entertainment and Media industry as it rapidly increases with a projection on the South African E&M industry stating that the “E&M revenues in all three markets are expected to rise ahead of the global average of a 3.9% CAGR. E&M revenue in South Africa will increase from R295.3bn (US$16.1bn) to R363.2bn (US$19.8bn).” This highlights the immense growth potential in the industry, presenting significant opportunities for creators to establish and scale their careers.

Commitment to Digital Inclusion and Economic Empowerment

The partnership between Propella Business Incubator and KWFCDT highlights the commitment of both organisations to fostering digital inclusion and economic empowerment in Umzamowethu, Sea Vista, KwaNomzamo, and Kruisfontein.

Propella brings a structured approach to equipping participants with business acumen, ensuring they can turn their creative skills into viable enterprises. To enhance the technical aspect of the programme, Propella has partnered with Nanotek, an ICT entrepreneur and a Propella ICT alumnus, Jonathan Kettledas, who was incubated by Propella in 2020.

Programme Structure and Impact

Throughout the 8-month programme, participants will gain foundational coding skills (low-code to no-code), develop entrepreneurial confidence through business training, and receive DigiTech training to bridge information gaps. Addition-

ally, participants will be connected to industry opportunities to market their services and grow their creative ventures. “Our goal is to not only equip young creatives with the necessary technical skills but also to cultivate an entrepreneurial mindset that allows them to build sustainable careers in multimedia,” said Propella Business Incubation Manager, Masa Mlamla. “With KWFCDT’s community-driven vision and Nanotek’s expertise, we are excited to bridge the gap between creativity, technology, and business in the KWFCDT beneficiary communities.”

Building Sustainable Opportunities

KWFCDT has long been a driving force in community upliftment, investing in programmes that create sustainable opportunities. The Multi-Media Creators Programme builds on this legacy by offering young creatives the tools to tell impactful stories through photography, videography, developing professional digital content, and exploring entrepreneurship in the digital space.

“The Kouga Windfarm Community Development Trust is excited about the partnership with Propella Business Incubator in the Multimedia Creators Programme and its envisaged intent to promote an entrepreneurial mindset among the creatives in our priority communities. The Enterprise Development Pillar of the KWFCDT aims to accelerate and support local enterprises to generate revenue, create, and sustain gainful employment opportunities,” says Kouga Windfarm Community Development Trust’s Projects Operations Officer. At its core, the partnership between Propella Business Incubator and KWFCDT aims to empower the youth of Umzamowethu, Sea Vista, KwaNomzamo, and Kruisfontein to become self-sufficient digital entrepreneurs. By merging creativity, technology, and business skills, the Multi-Media Creators Programme will not only catalyse economic transformation but also empower young creators to secure sustainable livelihoods and make meaningful contributions to their communities.

Community church celebrates teachers at appreciation event

IN a heartfelt celebration of dedication and service, the RUCC Hankey Church hosted a teachers’ appreciation event on March 5.

The event, which drew a large crowd of local teachers and principals, was a touching tribute to the hardworking teachers who have played a pivotal role in shaping the future of the Kouga region.

The event was graced by the presence of Pastor Lingelihle Jadezweni, the Senior Pastor of RUCC Real Life Ministries in Gqeberha. He was accompanied by RUCC Hankey’s resident pastor, Pastor Henry Jordaan.

Jordaan said that the church, part of the RUCC Real Life Ministries network, has long been committed to its vision of serving, penetrating, and impacting the local community. He said that the teachers’ appreciation event was a shining example of the mission of their church, as it sought to uplift and honour the often-unsung heroes of education.

Jordaan said that teachers in the region face numerous challenges, including limited resources, overcrowded classrooms, and the socio-economic struggles of their learners.

“Despite these obstacles, they continue to pour their hearts into their work, and the RUCC Hankey Church made it their mission to ensure they felt seen, valued, and appreciated,” said Jordaan.

The church was packed with principals and teachers gathered to celebrate the vital role teachers play.

“God has placed us in this town for a purpose,” said Jordaan.

“We are not just a church within the community; we are a church for the community. Teachers, you are God’s hands and feet in the classrooms, shaping futures and transforming lives. Today, we honour you, not just for what you do, but for who you are, vessels of God’s grace and wisdom.”

Affectionately known as Pastor J, Jadezweni is a nationally sought-after speaker, acclaimed author, and dynamic voice in the faith com-

munity. He served as the guest speaker at the event, delivering a message that was both stirring and deeply impactful.

Known for his ability to connect with audiences on a profound level, he delivered a message that resonated deeply with everyone in the room.

“Teachers, you are not just educators; you are nation-builders,” he said.

“In a world that often overlooks your sacrifices, know this, God sees you. He has placed you in these classrooms, in this community, for such a time as this. Your work is not in vain, it is sacred, and it is shaping eternity.”

Hankey High School principal, Basildon Perils, said the challenges faced by teachers in the Kouga region are undeniable.

“Overcrowded classrooms, scarce resources, and the weight of socio-economic hardships often make their work feel like an insurmountable task. Yet, despite these obstacles, they persist, driven by a passion for their learners and a belief in the power of education,” said Perils.

“RUCC Hankey’s event was a powerful reminder that their efforts are not in vain and that the church stands firmly beside them.”

Jadezweni said that this event was not just

about appreciation; it was about affirmation.

“We are here to affirm God’s purpose in this town. We are here to affirm the value of every teacher, every learner, and every member of this community. This is what it means to be the church, to be present, to be prominent, and to be purposeful,” said Jadezweni.

As the event concluded, the atmosphere was electric with a sense of renewed purpose and unity. Teachers left with their spirits lifted, knowing that their work is seen, valued, and deeply connected to God’s plan for the community.

Jordaan said that RUCC Hankey, through its bold and compassionate leadership, continues to assert its role as a cornerstone of hope and transformation in the Kouga region.

“For those who doubt the power of faith in action, RUCC Hankey stands as a compelling example. This is not just a church; it is a movement, a force for good, and a testament to the enduring presence of God in Hankey.”

Sunshine Service Centre receives generous donation

RAZAAN PLAATJIES

IN a remarkable display of community spirit and generosity, the Sunshine Service Centre in Jeffreys Bay, dedicated to serving senior citizens, recently received a significant donation from the Cacadu Development Agency. Francis Faulkner, the project manager, said that they currently have 20 senior citizens who visit the centre on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays.

She mentioned that Stoffel William, who previously worked on their management team, was responsible for the fundraising initiatives.

Thanks to his dedication in assisting the centre with fundraising initiatives, Faulkner said they were recently fortunate to receive a donation of a television, two sewing machines, and a laptop from the Cacadu Development Agency.

“We are so thankful that Stoffel took the initiative to arrange this donation, and we are thankful for the assistance we have received from the Cacadu Development Agency,” said Faulkner.

“We have been beaming with pride since re-

ceiving the donation.”

Faulkner said that they plan to use the TV for educational purposes and the sewing machines to practise needlework.

She said that the senior citizens have already begun creating beautifully designed pillowcases, which they plan to sell to assist the centre, which is a non-profit organisation.

Faulkner also expressed gratitude to The Co-

op for providing care workers to ensure that the senior citizens are well taken care of.

“We want to thank all the people and businesses who have assisted the Sunshine Service Centre. We appreciate it,” said Faulkner.

To improve the safety at the centre, she said they need a security gate.

Faulkner said that they also need material and wool.

Community spirit shines during clean-up

THE age-old saying that "many hands make light work" proved true during a recent clean-up initiative at the Humansdorp Town Cemetery, spearheaded by Kouga Local Municipality in collaboration with various stakeholders.

The Humansdorp Town Cemetery, the primary operational burial ground for the area, spans an impressive 60 square meters and serves the needs of residents from Wards 1, 4, 5, 6, and 15. Despite its significance, the cemetery has faced various challenges, including vandalism.

Rochelle Ludick, Kouga Municipality’s Manager for Parks and Amenities, organised the comprehensive clean-up effort alongside numerous partners.

There was remarkable support from the Parks and Amenities grass-cutting team and management, the Working on Fire team, ward councillors, Kouga Speaker, Brenton Williams, Kouga Deputy Executive Mayor, Timothy Jantjes, and the Dorp van Drome Working Group.

Together, the teams undertook extensive grass cutting, litter removal, bush clearing and weeding, with all waste transported off-site by truck. Kouga Executive Mayor, Hattingh Bornman, commended the efforts of all involved.

"The restoration of our cemeteries is not just about cleanliness, it is about respect, dignity, and honouring those who came before us. This initiative demonstrates the power of partnerships and community pride in preserving these sacred spaces," he said. The ongoing commitment of community members to maintaining the cemetery is, furthermore, greatly appreciated.

Residents Hennie Terblanche and Martin Phillip van der Merwe have played a key role in preserving the grounds through regular grass cutting and bush clearing, setting a positive example for others.

"We are incredibly grateful for the dedication of local residents, who take it upon themselves to assist with cemetery upkeep. Their hard work contributes to creating a safe and serene space for families to visit their loved ones," Bornman added.

Additional clean-up efforts are being planned for cemeteries across the Kouga region, with a focus on involving community groups, churches, funeral undertakers, and other stakeholders.

The goal is to ensure that these spaces remain safe, clean, and well-maintained for the dignity of those laid to rest.

Meanwhile, the Parks and Amenities Department is exploring partnerships with other municipal departments to further enhance cemetery projects.

In February 2025, teams from Heritage, Tourism, Waste, Environmental Services and Events Management, came together to discuss heritage site identification and maintenance planning. Efforts are underway to develop collaborative strategies to preserve and manage these important sites effectively.

"By working together, we can ensure that our cemeteries and heritage sites are well-maintained, as well as respected as places of remembrance,” Bornman said.

The journey of Khabonina Qubeka

KHABONINA Qubeka, a name synonymous with artistry and inspiration, has left an indelible mark on the world of performing arts, business, and community development.

Born in Orlando West, Soweto, and raised in the vibrant city of Johannesburg, Qubeka's multifaceted career spans across dance, acting, entrepreneurship and philanthropy. Her philanthropic initiatives reflect her belief in uplifting communities — a philosophy she brings to her involvement with "Teater by die See" in Jeffreys Bay.

“I immediately fell in love with the concept of ‘Teater by die See’ because Jeffreys Bay and Kouga Local Municipality are showing the rest of the country that we do not wait for opportunities to come to us, but we create opportunities and platforms to showcase local talent. It is all about celebrating culture, art and entertainment to the core.

“I believe community is the very core. Community is vital for fostering a sense of belonging, providing support, and promoting collective action, ultimately enhancing individual and societal well-being and fostering a shared identity and purpose. The municipality does exactly that. Hence, we will always support the local municipality in any way

we can,” she said. She added that she was honoured to be a judge at the talent competition.

“I love passionate, talented people, especially kids. Being talented is a huge privilege that needs to be shared, but first you must hone your talent, respect it, and guard it jealously for it is your gift from God. Handle it with care and watch what it can do for you and your future.”

From a young age, Qubeka’s creative spirit was evident. Excelling in high school, she earned her colours for dance and drama, clinched public speaking awards, and even claimed the title of Miss Kensington during her primary school years.

A natural leader and achiever, she shone academically and dominated athletics. Her passion for the arts blossomed into a stellar career.

As an award-winning actress, she secured the Indie Spirit Best Actress award at the Boston Film Festival for her role in "Dora's Peace" and received a nomination at the AMAA, among other accolades from renowned film festivals in Beijing and Florida.

Most recently, Khabonina was honoured with the 2024 SA Hero Award: Ubuntu and Art of Giving

Award, cementing her status as a cultural icon.

Her entrepreneurial prowess is equally remarkable. As the founder of Khanatural.com , she has transformed the wellness industry with sea moss-based products, ranging from gels and capsules to lotions and oils.

Her venture extends to publishing with the successful Khanatural Mag , a monthly magazine celebrating wellness and creativity.

Having worked in television, on screen as an actress and host, and behind the scenes as a producer, being a judge on reality dance shows like Step Up or Step Out and Dance your Butt Off , she has plans to make a difference in the lives of children.

“I want to build an arts centre where kids can partake and create art programmes for dance, drama, film, musicals, etc,” Qubeka said. “Furthermore, I want to build a centre for abused / disadvantaged women with serious empowerment programmes so that the women leave the centre empowered, more focused and filled with purpose. This is how we help build and improve community.”

The “Teater by die See” Festival takes place from March 21 to March 23, 2025.

THE Battle of the Karoo, held on March 1 in Oudtshoorn, marked a stunning talent showcase for the resolute members of Botha's Kickboxing Club, with their hard work and determination translating into outstanding achievements on the mat.

Senpai Ruan Jordaan showed incredible grit, securing fourth place in Points and bronze in Light Continuous in the Senior Men u/89kg category.

Local cricket club participates in prestigious tournament

RAZAAN PLAATJIES

LESS than two years after its establishment, the Jeffreys Bay Cricket Club has achieved a significant milestone by participating in the Pineapple Tournament in Port Alfred from March 8 to 15.

As previously reported, the Jeffreys Bay Cricket Club was founded in September 2023 by Ruan Thomas after he noticed the need for a cricket club that provides people of all ages with a platform to showcase their talents at no cost.

The cricket club currently has 60 members, with 30 actively involved, and they use the cricket pitch at Victory Christian School for practice on Tuesdays and Thursdays.

Since the start of 2024, they have begun participating in the Heatherbank Corporate Cricket League in Gqeberha. Although the cricket club was only recently established, they received an invitation earlier this year to participate in the prestigious Pineapple Tournament from March 8 to 15, which they gladly accepted.

Finally, after raising the much-needed funding to participate in the tournament, the club set off to Port Alfred.

Thomas said that the tournament was a blast, and they learned a lot, not only about cricket but about

overs, while Diwan Potgieter took three wickets for 46 runs in 7.5 overs.

“It was an amazing experience. Winning at least one game on such a prestigious platform has boosted our confidence a great deal since the teams at the tournament are in another class,” said Thomas.

He said that they plan to participate in the Pineapple Tournament again next year and will begin preparing months in advance.

“Now that we know what to expect, next year we will go above and beyond to prepare for the high level of cricket played there. We are fortunate to play cricket throughout the year, and I believe that with the continuous growth and improvement of players, we will bring a trophy home,” said Thomas.

lers, Tampa Bay Spur (Jeffreys Bay), Creative PVC, Okandivi Properties Franchise Jeffreys Bay, Beesland Slaghuis & Deli, Blikkiesbraai, The Backyard Beer Garden, Gepettos Barber, Vida Mineral Water Jeffreys Bay and BP Jeffreys Bay.

“We would like to thank everyone who made any form of contribution. Thank you to all our sponsors for believing in us and making the tour possible for us to represent our beautiful town. We appreciate each one of you and we hope to continue working with you,” said Thomas.

Now that they are back home, he said they have already started playing in the Kouga Mayor’s Cup against Mentorskraal, Hankey, and Humansdorp.

what it means to be a team.

After losing their first two games, he said that the team was determined to win at least one game before heading home.

Finally, on March 15, Thomas said that they had played with their “heart and soul” and won against Cathcart.

They batted first and posted a score

of 310 in 44.3 overs, with Luciano Arries hitting a brilliant 119 runs from 116 balls and Daniel Cloete showcasing a quick-fire 60 runs from 55 balls.

The club then took to bowling and bowled their opponents all out for 252 in 42.5 overs, winning the match by 58 runs.

Chris van der Westhuizen took three wickets for 23 runs in eight

“The club will grow from strength to strength. We have made some serious waves, but we plan to stay the amazing club that we are, where everyone is welcome, no matter their skill level, age, or race.”

Thomas said that the support from businesses in Jeffreys Bay has been incredible and it has made them realise that people care about the development of sport.

He said that ahead of the tournament, they had received sponsorship from JD Intelligence, J-Bay Bru Co, Buco Jeffreys Bay, Gabriël Jewel-

J’Bay athletes off to compete in Germiston

Thomas further said they would continue playing in the corporate league in Gqeberha.

“Cricket never stops for us, and we are grateful that we can play the sport we love so much,” said Thomas.

Given the ongoing expenses for training, playing cricket, and travelling, he expressed hope that local businesses would grow alongside them and support their club.

“Our club is free for all to join, so any form of sponsorship towards the club and its players is highly appreciated,” said Thomas.
