Dear Friends of the Nantucket Boys & Girls Club, Twenty-seventeen was another significant year for us. Over 1000 youth and teens walked through our doors with a commitment from our organization for a brighter future. This is the largest number of youth served since the beginning of the Nantucket Boys & Girls Club over 73 years ago.

Through the years, we have learned that the key to our success is not just one program or one person. It is a collective effort of programming, mentoring and unified staff to support our mission.

Last year our focus was to continue to expand our reach and positive impact on Nantucket’s youth. In order to achieve this goal we began addressing the challenge many organizations on Nantucket face— providing affordable housing opportunities for our professional youth development staff. Without our staff, we would not be able to provide our unique services to Nantucket’s youth and teens.

In 2017, the Board of Trustees embarked on finding property for future employee housing. In March, 2017, property adjacent to the current facility became available and it was purchased by the Club. Realizing we need a long range development plan to ensure the success and financial security of the organization, we began the Strategic Planning process.

Our focus for 2018 is to complete the Strategic Plan and move forward to fulfill our challenges and goals. The Nantucket community relies on the Nantucket Boys & Girls Club and we rely on the community to help us accomplish our number one priority by making the Club “a positive place for kids.”

We are fortunate so many care about the Nantucket community and its children. The Nantucket Boys & Girls Club remains strong thanks to everyone who donates time, resources and talent in support of our organization.

The 2017 Sam Sylvia Pro-Am Golf Tournament kicked off on Sunday night with a festive cocktail party, held at the Nantucket Boys & Girls Club. The evening gave participants a chance to enjoy light bites and cocktails, while mingling with fellow golfers and friends.

A live and silent auction were held along with the second annual Golf Ball Drop Raffle, helping to raise crucial revenue for the Club and its programs.

The tournament took place on Monday morning with a shotgun start at Sankaty Head Golf Club, followed by an award luncheon, also held at Sankaty Head Golf Club.

The Tim Russert Summer Groove is the Club’s largest annual fundraiser, and one of the most anticipated fundraising events of the season.

Guests enjoy a fantastic evening of wonderful food, fabulous music, non-stop dancing and most importantly, incredible generosity. The funds raised by the Summer Groove go directly towards funding necessary operating expenses, allowing the Club to open its doors to over 750 members each year.

Tim Russert was a champion of the Club, our community, and was passionate about not only the children of Nantucket, but children and Boys & Girls Club’s everywhere. Each year a member of the Nantucket community who embodies these qualities, is awarded the Tim Russert Spirit of Hope Award.
