Wow, I can't believe my year of service has come to an end. It has been an honor serving as your Miss Clinton County's Teen 2023. This year has been full of so many adventures and I have loved every second of it. Competing in the Miss America opportunity has been my dream since I was six years old.
Quickly after I was crowned, I got out into the community to start my year. Most of my year of service focused on my service initiative, A Fraction Ahead, advocating for females in STEM. Through my work with my CSI, I loved my many trips to the YMCAs and after school programs to bring in STEM activities to the students. I really enjoyed getting into the schools, doing STEM presentations, and reaching as many girls as possible to spark an interest in STEM learning.
Before my reign comes to an end, there are so many people I have to thank. First and foremost, to all of our amazing sponsors. This year would not have been possible without you. Thank you so much for supporting the Clinton County Organization. To Emily, thank you so much for the mocks, prep sessions, and support. Your words of encouragement and understanding during this Iowa week helped me stay focused and feel better. You have become a strong female role model in my life, and I love that we are nerdy engineers.
To Heather and Stacy, thank you for all of your pageant support. Our late nights designing with Canva at the kitchen table are memories I will never forget. And the crazy part is the best is yet to come. I cannot wait to see our latest creations. Stella, your creativity in helping me bring my best version of myself out and my talent is truly a unique gift that you have. I appreciate you helping me conquer new heights and you pushing me to not only grow as a dancer, but as a person. I always love our one-on-one studio time together.
Daxton and Kaiden, You are truly the best brothers a girl could ask for. I know that you have sat through more dance competitions and pageants that you could ever want to, but thanks for cheering me on and making me laugh. Dad, thanks for being there for me with your big hugs and always telling me that I am the most beautiful. I greatly appreciate our long nights building STEM kids together, and of course, our extensive math lessons when I just have a quick question on a problem. To my mom, you have been my biggest supporter at every event to encourage me 110%. I appreciate all of the time and dedication you spend to help me chase my dreams. You have helped shape me into the person that I am today, and I couldn't be more thankful for that. Thank you for the pageant prep help, staying up late to help me clean my dances, or whipping out your hem taping skills to fix any wardrobe malfunctions. Thank you for everything, I love you so much.
To my pageant sister, Mariah. What a journey we have had. You taught me that it is possible to balance a title and still have time for fun. You showed me that two girls who know very little about each other can grow together and have an incredible time no matter how many years separate them. And trust me, I know I am the same age as your students. I appreciate you always making me laugh and stepping in with your incredible photography skills whenever I need you. I can't wait to see what this next year brings for you.
To the next, Miss Clinton County's Teen, you are in for a great year. You will have a strong support system and a board who cares about making you the best version of yourself. I hope you enjoy the journey as much as I have. Although I am signing off as your Miss Clinton County's Teen, you aren't done with me yet, Iowa.
I will continue to serve as your Miss Iowa's Teen 2024, increasing STEM access and exposure across our state, and representing the best state on the Miss America stage. I love you all. For the last time, I am your Miss Clinton County's Teen 2023,
Avery Bradley
My journey to becoming Miss Clinton County started four years ago. Not once, not twice, but three times, I walked away as first runner up to the title of Miss Clinton County. Each time I learned something. I never lost, I actually grew. Thanks to my dedication, I have earned over $3,100 from the Miss Clinton County Scholarship Program alone
I challenged myself. I gained friendships, grew, and accomplished my goal of over 11,000 hours of lifelong service. When I was 13 years old, I found the message of love, which stands for lead, overcome, value, and empower. My goal has always been to empower women and girls to lead in their communities, overcome their challenges, and value themselves while empowering one another
Throughout my year as Miss Clinton County, I attended many service projects and community events. Thank you to the people of Clinton for accepting me with open arms this year. It has been incredible. I've met hundreds of people, heard so many fascinating stories, and talked to so many bright leaders Some of my highlights this year was going to watch the GOAT Miss Iowa, Alysa Goethe, during her time at Miss America What a gift it was to watch her live out her goals on the national stage. I also got to attend Disney World for the first time, thanks to Team Goethe. I even got to meet some Forever Miss Americas. Although these are low quality photos, these are some high quality moments. Some of my other highlights of this year are throwing out the first pitch on the Princess Night at the Clinton Elotes I had a lot of firsts to knock off my list this year.
State week was one for the books. My incredible teen Avery won the title of Miss Iowa's Teen and I was honored to walk away as Second Runner Up to the title of Miss Iowa Avery, what a gift it was to experience this year with you and your family I watched you take on every challenge with grace and beauty You are so disciplined, kind, and smart. I cannot wait to watch you shine at nationals and accomplish all the things you've set your sights on.
To the Miss Clinton County Board, especially Emily, thank you This year proved to me why I kept coming back to become a part of this legacy. I remember our first conversation together when I immediately knew that this was going to be such a beautiful year. Thank you for your patience of my many questions. You are such a gift.
To the many people who have helped and loved me along the way in my Miss America journey, thank you I wouldn't have been able to accomplish this year without your love and support. Thank you to my remarkable family and friends for all of your encouragement and support throughout my journey in the Miss America Opportunity. Mom, Dad, Takera, Alysa, Hannah, and BJ, thank you for being my shoulders to lean on, professional photographers, and cheer section Most of all, thank you for loving and accepting me and helping me grow through all of my crazy dreams. I am blessed to have this team behind me.
It is with grace and pride that I am saying my goodbyes. I love you, Clinton. From your favorite teacher and your 63rd Miss Clinton County, I’m signing off for the last time You forever Miss Clinton County 2023,
Mariah Martinez
