ANNUAL REVIEW 2024

Supporting those who need us

2024 NOTTINGHAM FOREST COMMUNITY TRUST

FROM THE CEO Welcome

I am delighted to introduce this year’s annual report, reflecting on another year of progress, impact, and ambition at Nottingham Forest Community Trust. Our commitment to supporting communities across Nottingham and Nottinghamshire remains at the heart of everything we do, and 2024 has been a year of growth, innovation, and strengthened partnerships.

To continue delivering meaningful change, we have enhanced our fundraising strategy to generate unrestricted funds, enabling us to expand our reach and invest in the future.

A key focus in 2024 has been the regular monitoring of our impact through comprehensive surveys and studies, ensuring that we listen to the voices of our participants, celebrate our strengths, and identify areas for growth.

We are also working to capture and showcase our social return on investment, reinforcing the financial and societal value we bring to the region. As our work expands, so does our team, and we are proud to be growing both our staff and our Board of Trustees in 2025, bringing in new expertise to strengthen our leadership and governance.

Our relationship with Nottingham Forest Football Club continues to flourish, and we reaffirm our commitment to supporting each other, Nottingham Forest Women, and the newly-formed Nottingham Forest Netball.

Fan engagement remains a priority, and we have been proud to play a role in the Community Corner of the Nottingham Forest Fan Zone on matchdays, bringing our initiatives closer to supporters.

Facility development is also high on our agenda, with significant work underway on the redevelopment of the Forest Sports Zone. These projects will continue into 2025, ensuring that we provide high-quality spaces for the community to engage in sport and physical activity.

As we look ahead, we are excited by the opportunities on the horizon. Our purpose remains clear: to make a lasting, positive difference to the lives of people in our communities. With the dedication of our team, partners, and supporters, we are confident that the year ahead will be one of our most impactful yet.

THE CHAIR OF TRUSTEES A note from

It is a privilege to chair the Board of Trustees for Nottingham Forest Community Trust as I reflect on a year of tremendous strides forward in delivering the strategic plan we first laid out in 2023. This year alone we have engaged over 53,000 people through our programmes and activities, and committed to our mission to reach those who need us most - whenever they need it, and wherever they may be.

Throughout 2024, we have remained focused on delivering meaningful change, ensuring that our work continues to address the most pressing needs of our community. Our focus is on supporting health and wellbeing, education, and employment opportunities while also increasing levels of community engagement in the issues that affect them the most.

Evaluating the impact of what we do is vitally important and this year we’ve seen clear, positive trends across multiple outcomes. These independent measures show us that our participants increase their physical activity, improve their mental wellbeing, reduce anxiety levels, and experience a positive impact on their overall personal wellbeing by engaging with Nottingham Forest Community Trust.

At the heart of our success is the dedication of our team, who work tirelessly week in and week out to deliver programmes that create positive, lasting change. As a Board we appreciate their commitment and energy which remains the foundation of all we do, and we will continue to support and empower them as we move forward.

Looking ahead, we will continue to expand our reach and strengthen our impact, enhancing our services, building our partnerships and driving long-term sustainability. We will be defined by growth, expanding our team, strengthening our Board of Trustees and deepening our valued relationship with Nottingham Forest Football Club.

With a strong strategic vision, committed leadership, and a growing network of supporters, we are confident that Nottingham Forest Community Trust will continue to be a driving force for positive change, supporting our communities in Nottinghamshire to thrive and reach their full potential.

Nottingham Forest Community Trust announced Adam Mansouri as Nottingham Forest’s 2024/25 Premier League Community Captain, as part of the Premier League’s More Than A Game campaign.

This recognition celebrates Adam’s exceptional contributions to the Forest Futures programme, funded by the Premier League.

Adam, originally from Morocco and now a proud Nottingham resident of over 20 years, has been an integral part of the Community Trust for the past two years. His selfless commitment to supporting the Trust’s Forest Futures programme has been instrumental in its success, earning him this well-deserved award.

The Premier League Community Captain accolade is awarded each season to individuals who go above and beyond in their work within community initiatives.

Adam exemplifies this through his tireless efforts to bridge cultural and language barriers, offering translations in Arabic and French while teaching English to participants. His work builds a sense of belonging and community among participants, many of whom are refugees or asylum seekers.

One of our OWN

Since its launch in 2023, the Forest Futures programme has been a lifeline for young people aged 14-25, particularly those with limited social connections, friendships, or learning opportunities.

Designed to empower participants, the programme blends football and mentoring to enhance physical fitness, personal development, and social skills.

Forest Futures is supported by the Premier League Charitable Fund, the Professional Footballers’ Association (PFA), and the Nottingham and Nottinghamshire Violence Reduction Partnership.

Adam’s contributions have been pivotal to the programme’s success. His enthusiasm ensures that participants feel welcomed

and connected to their new community in Nottingham, creating friendships and building confidence.

Adam’s community engagement extends beyond Forest Futures. He regularly coaches football sessions at the Community Trust’s Forest Sports Zone, inspiring the next generation through sport.

Adam was surprised with a visit to the home dressing room, where he was told he was our winner. Nottingham Forest Captain, Ryan Yates, then presented Adam with his award. Head Coach, Nuno Espírito Santo, also came to congratulate Adam, recognising his outstanding dedication to the community.

This initiative sharpened Rowan’s football abilities and boosted his confidence, as he interacted with others who shared his passion for the sport. Beyond football, Rowan participated in social action projects like cooking for the homeless with local Sikh charity Guru Nanak’s Mission and litter picking, giving back to his community.

As he aged out of the programme, Rowan returned as a volunteer, helping others while embodying the Trust’s values. His journey showcases the power of community support and personal growth.

Youth Lead the Way in

COMMUNITY FUNDRAISING WALK

In June, six young participants took on the challenge of walking 25 kilometres around Nottingham to raise funds for community initiatives. Completing the walk in just 6 hours, they covered over 41,200 steps, demonstrating incredible determination and leadership.

The funds raised were allocated to a Family Fun Day community event

entirely organised and managed by the participants, giving them handson experience in leadership and event planning. The walk’s route included scenic paths around the River Trent, Beeston Canal, Colwick Loop, and the City Ground.

The initiative highlighted our commitment to empowering young people through social action, teamwork, and responsibility.

Hosts Inaugural Family Fun Day COMMUNITY TRUST

In August, we held our first-ever Family Fun Day at Haydn Road Cricket Club, welcoming over 750 local residents for a day of activities, entertainment, and community spirit. Organised as part of the Premier League Kicks programme’s social action initiative after the community fundraising walk, the event featured face painting, football, cricket, a bouncy castle, inflatable penalty shoot-out, a live DJ, and even a photo opportunity with the European Cup and Nottingham Forest mascot, Robin Hood.

Premier League Kicks participants played a key role in planning the event, showcasing creativity and organisation. Nottingham Forest Academy players Theo Avery, Will Thompson, and Zac Smith also joined the fun, connecting with families and young fans.

HOLIDAY ACTIVITIES FOOD &

Throughout 2024, Nottingham Forest Community Trust continued its impactful delivery of the Holiday Activities and Food (HAF) programme, supporting families across Nottingham and Nottinghamshire. Funded by the Department for Education, the initiative provides enriching activities and nutritious meals to children during school holidays, particularly those from low-income families.

Throughout 2024, the Trust engaged 5,634 children at 132 sessions held at multiple venues, across 528 hours of delivery. Children participated daily in a variety of activities focused on healthy eating, fitness, creativity, and mental wellbeing. These sessions not only offered children fun and structure during the holidays but also reduced social isolation, promoted healthy lifestyles, and helped build resilience and confidence.

By collaborating with local partners and employing staff from the community, we ensured that funding was reinvested into the local economy. The diversity of children attending reflected the inclusive nature of the programme, with support tailored to meet individual needs and ensure all could thrive.

‘‘

SINCE BEING APPOINTED TO DELIVER THIS PROGRAMME IN 2021, WE HAVE SEEN REMARKABLE POSITIVE IMPACT IN BOTH PARTICIPATION AND COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT. THE SUCCESS OF THIS INITIATIVE DEMONSTRATES THE POWER OF COLLABORATION AND OUR COMMITMENT TO MAKING A LASTING INFLUENCE ON NOTTINGHAM’S YOUTH. IT’S INSPIRING TO SEE HOW THE PROGRAMME CONTINUES TO BRING TOGETHER CHILDREN FROM ALL BACKGROUNDS, BUILDING UNITY, DIVERSITY, AND A SENSE OF BELONGING. ’’

PROUD FOREST

In celebration of Pride Month 2024, Nottingham Forest Community Trust highlighted the story of Martin Hyland, founder of Proud Forest - an LGBTQ+ supporters group established with support from Nottingham Forest and amplified through the Premier League Fans Fund.

Martin reflected on Proud Forest’s journey and the importance of LGBTQ+ representation in football. As a lifelong Forest fan, he shared how the group has helped build a safe, inclusive space where all supporters feel welcome and valued.

Through Proud Forest, Martin and others demonstrated how football can be a powerful platform for diversity, unity, and acceptance.

Matchday MASCOT EXPERIENCE

Nottingham Forest Community Trust proudly facilitates the Club’s official mascot experience, offering young fans an unforgettable day at the City Ground. This unique opportunity allows mascots to meet their football heroes as they arrive at the stadium, explore exclusive areas such as the changing rooms and technical area, and walk out alongside their chosen player before kick-off at every home game.

As part of our ongoing commitment to the community, we select children from our programmes through a ballot to enjoy this experience free of charge. For many families, it provides a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity, helping deserving young supporters create lasting memories on the Premier League stage and feel truly part of the Nottingham Forest family.

FACILITATING THE MASCOT EXPERIENCE IS VERY SPECIAL AND SOMETHING I REALLY ENJOY DOING AS PART OF MY ROLE.
SEEING THE EXCITEMENT ON A CHILD’S FACE AS THEY WALK OUT ONTO THE PITCH WITH THEIR FOOTBALL HEROES IS UNFORGETTABLE.
FOR MANY, IT’S A ONCE-IN-A-LIFETIME OPPORTUNITY THAT INSPIRES CONFIDENCE, CREATES LASTING MEMORIES, AND DEEPENS THEIR LOVE FOR FOREST.
WE TAKE GREAT PRIDE IN MAKING SURE EVERY MASCOT FEELS LIKE A STAR FOR THE DAY. IT’S A PRIVILEGE TO HELP CREATE SUCH MAGICAL MOMENTS. ‘‘ ’’

engagements PLAYER

A key highlight of our sessions and programmes is the involvement of Nottingham Forest first team, academy and women’s players, whose appearances create unforgettable moments for participants.

Whether visiting a Premier League Kicks session, attending a local school, or supporting a community holiday club, players help to inspire, motivate, and connect with young people. Their presence provides a boost in confidence and excitement for participants, who often describe meeting their heroes as “the best day ever.”

engagements PLAYER

Beyond the positive impact on participants, these visits help players build a deeper connection with the community they represent. By stepping into local schools, community centres, and sports halls, players gain a firsthand understanding of the challenges and strengths within Nottingham’s diverse communities.

engagements PLAYER

Player engagement strengthens the relationship between club and community and reinforces the values of togetherness, inclusivity, and pride. It reminds young people that their dreams are within reach and that Nottingham Forest is a club that champions its people both on and off the pitch.

corner COMMUNITY

Community Corner was launched ahead of the 2024/25 season, creating a vibrant space for fan engagement at every home game. Located within the Fan Zone, Community Corner brings together Forest supporters of all ages through fun, games, and interactive activities, while also raising awareness for various social topics and causes that are important to the community.

With regular appearances from Robin Hood and a focus on family-friendly experiences, the space becomes a lively hub of energy and connection before kick-off. Week in, week out, our staff deliver creative and inclusive experiences that celebrate the spirit of the Forest community and add something special to every matchday.

CLUB AND COMMUNITY Open training session brings together

Nottingham Forest Community Trust proudly supported the Club’s open training session at the City Ground, which welcomed over 3,000 fans during the October half-term break. Aimed at strengthening the bond between Nottingham Forest and its supporters, the event offered fans a unique glimpse into first-team preparations ahead of the home match against West Ham United.

With players and coaches training on the pitch, families and young fans enjoyed an unforgettable day, including access to the Community Corner in the Fan Zone, filled with games, activities, and refreshments.

Special guests Warriors United, a team for individuals with learning disabilities, were invited pitchside as part of Down Syndrome Awareness Month, reinforcing the Club’s ongoing commitment to inclusion and community engagement.

You are my FOREST

To kick off the 2024/25 Premier League season, Nottingham Forest Community Trust and Nottingham Forest Football Club hosted a special event at the City Ground, bringing together diverse fan groups for a powerful rendition of “You Are My Forest” with local choir Everyone Can Sing.

Supported by the Premier League Fans Fund, the event celebrated Forest For Everyone - a club-wide commitment to inclusion and belonging. Groups such as Proud Forest, Punjabi Forest, the Nottingham Forest Disability Supporters’ Association, and Garibaldi Girls took part, reflecting the rich diversity of the Forest fanbase and the shared pride that unites them.

LOCAL FOODBANK Continued support for

Nottingham Forest Community Trust, alongside Nottingham Forest Football Club and partner Ideagen, continued its support for local charity, Himmah, by delivering essential food packages to schools across the city. Club and Trust staff volunteered their time to distribute weekly food parcels and festive goody bags, all packed by Ideagen volunteers.

This long-standing partnership reflects a shared commitment to supporting families facing food insecurity, particularly during high-demand periods like winter. Himmah provides critical services including hot meals, school uniforms, and a community supermarket - making it a vital lifeline for many in Nottingham.

Children’s Christmas Party for HOME CHRISTMAS

Nottingham Forest and Nottingham Forest Community Trust welcomed over 100 deserving children from across Nottingham to the City Ground for an unforgettable afternoon of festive fun as part of the Club’s ‘Home For Christmas’ campaign, led by owner Evangelos Marinakis. The event included music, games, food, and a disco, with special appearances from Santa Claus, Head Coach Nuno Espírito Santo, first-team players Harry Toffolo, Ola Aina, and Eric da Silva Moreira, and Forest Netball stars Chelsea Pitman, Freya Henshall, Jayda Pechova, and Tash Pavelin. Children from organisations including Warriors United, When You Wish Upon A Star, Nottingham Children’s Hospital Charity, and local partner schools enjoyed a visit to Santa’s grotto, a snow machine, and a festive conga around the pitch, creating lasting Christmas memories.

Nottingham Forest and Himmah proudly announced that, as part of the Club’s 2024 ‘Home For Christmas’ campaign, supporters had donated over 4,000KG of essential food and non-food items to support local families in need. The initiative, driven by owner Evangelos Marinakis, reflected his strong commitment to helping Nottingham’s most vulnerable during the festive season.

Starting with the Aston Villa fixture on 14th December, supporters donated generously, with over 1,000KG raised that day alone. The campaign continued throughout the week, resulting in more than 4 tonnes of essential items being dropped off at the City Ground. In an extraordinary gesture, Mr. Marinakis pledged to double all donations, bringing the total to over 8.5 tonnes. Forest worked with Himmah to distribute these items across the city, bringing hope, dignity, and support to those facing hardship at Christmas.

Our DEMENTIA CHOIR

In December, we hosted a festive Christmas Breakfast Club at the City Ground, welcoming over 70 veterans from across Nottinghamshire and the East Midlands. Part of Forest Forces, the event celebrated camaraderie and community spirit, offering veterans a chance to connect over shared experiences. A highlight of the morning was a moving performance by Our Dementia Choir, whose renditions of Christmas classics uplifted the room. Formed by actress Vicky McClure, the choir demonstrates the power of music to enhance wellbeing and nurture connection. Events like this reflect our ongoing commitment to supporting veterans’ mental and physical health through meaningful, community-led initiatives.

FINANCIAL performance

2024 has been another year of solid financial performance for Nottingham Forest Community Trust, with encouraging signs of growth across the board. I’m pleased to report an increase in turnover of around 10 per cent, driven by the strength and expansion of our delivery programmes and the continued support of our partners and funders.

We’ve also seen an increase in our unrestricted funds. This gives us vital flexibility that allows us to support long-term development of our facilities and, most importantly, continue providing for the communities across Nottinghamshire who need us most. What stands out in 2024 is the scale of growth in our programme delivery. Our Healthy Communities and Forest Futures programmes, funded by the Premier League, have both gone from strength to strength, and we’ve expanded our Premier League Kicks sessions thanks to support from the National Lottery and Broxtowe Borough Council.

We’ve also reached more young people than ever before through Premier League Inspires and Premier League Primary Stars in schools, while our Nottingham Forest Official Soccer Schools recorded their highest ever attendance numbers.

The Forest Sports Zone has also had a record-breaking year for turnover. It continues to be a real hub for activity, and a key part of our vision for community-led physical activity and wellbeing. Throughout 2024, we welcomed over 100,000 facility users.

As we look to the future, the planned redevelopment of the Forest Sports Zone will take us to another level. The addition of a new state-of-the-art pitch and enhancements to the pavilion will allow us to expand our offer, welcome more users, and provide an even better experience for our community.

As we look ahead to 2025, we are ambitious. We aim to build on this momentum, sustaining the quality of what we offer while growing our impact where it’s needed most.

We know that true success lies not only in our financial results but in how we use those resources to change lives.

IQBAL SINGH SANGHERA

TRUSTEE AND FINANCE COMMITTEE CHAIR, NOTTINGHAM FOREST COMMUNITY TRUST Total Revenue £2,347,996

As Chairman of Nottingham Forest Football Club, I am immensely proud to reflect on another impactful year for Nottingham Forest Community Trust.

The Trust’s continued commitment to enriching lives across Nottinghamshire is not only inspiring but central to our club’s mission to be a force for good beyond the pitch.

Over the past year, the Trust has supported an incredible 53,154 individuals through 2,776 individual sessions, delivering a total of 9,984 hours of high-quality programmes.

These numbers speak volumes about the scale and dedication of the work being carried out, particularly in communities facing the greatest need.

One of the most heartening aspects of this year has been the Trust’s role in strengthening our club’s connection with its supporters.

Initiatives like the Community Corner in the Fan Zone have provided a welcoming space for fans to engage with the Trust’s work on matchdays, deepening the sense of community that defines Nottingham Forest.

The Trust played a key role in our club’s Home For Christmas campaign, collecting over 4,000 kilograms of essential items thanks to the extraordinary generosity of our supporters.

These donations were vital in providing comfort and support to families across the city during the winter months.

The Trust’s ongoing delivery of the Nottingham Forest Official Soccer Schools continues to nurture the next generation of footballing talent while promoting physical activity and teamwork among our young fans.

Programmes such as the Premier League-funded Healthy Communities initiative have had a profound impact, especially for individuals living with dementia and longterm health conditions.

Furthermore, 5,634 children benefited from the Holiday Activities & Food programme, receiving nutritious meals and engaging experiences during school holidays - easing pressure on local families.

Notably, the Trust also hosted its second Iftar at the City Ground, reaffirming our commitment to celebrating and supporting Nottingham’s diverse Muslim communities.

Finally, with 100 hours of dedicated mental health support delivered, the Trust continues to prioritise wellbeing at a time when it is more important than ever.

To everyone involved - staff, partners, and supporters - thank you.

Together, we are making a lasting difference.
