Jami With the turning of the pages on the ever dwindling calendar, the stark realization comes to us that the ”look ed forward to" senior events are re— corded in the pages of the past—SO dality Reception, Christmas Party, se— mester examinations, and the Senior class play—all have been successful— ly completed—Sleigh riding, softball, tennis, badminton, volley ball, ping pong, checkers, dancing, parties, movies—these are treasured memories.

The restlessness of the long winter has past, and we find ourselves

growing more and more confident as that “extra—extra special day,” grad— uation day, approaches. That day inevitably brings with it the snowy white— ness of our cap and gown, the pride of our own diplomas, our happy smiles and reminiscent tears, and the new title of ALUMNAE OF NOTRE DAME. But before we bid adieu to our Alma Mater, we have endeavored to summarize for you and ourselves a “memory album" containing some of the happy occasions that have made our high school days such a joy. Each

section of the Academette tells a different story—each story exciting, real, and true.

At the dawning of this, our last and final year at Notre Dame, we selected you, O Queen of the Holy Rosary, as our Patroness, in order that you might bestow upon us your special blessings and obtain for us necessary graces. Now as the final chapter of our High School Career is nearly completed in the unforgettable pages of time, we thank you devoutly for the Motherly Protection and Heavenly Guidance shown us throughout the scholastic year

Ever mindful of your words at Fatima, we have faithfully and fervently recited the Holy Rosary each evening in our Notre Dame Chapel. We, in gratitude for the many favors received through your intercession, promise to spread this practice to those who do not yet realize the fullness of the promises which you have made.

We now must pause on the threshold of a new life, and once more pray that we may continue as your children, that we may remain faithful and obedient to the end, in order that on some glorious morn we may find ourselves joined with you in praising and adoring your Divine Son forever in Eternity.

Chaplain On September 23, 1948, the Rev. Anthony Alberts undertook the duties and responsibilities as Chaplain of Notre Dame Academy. Through the days and weeks that have followed, his cheerful disposition and instructive religious lectures have gained for him the true respect and friendship of all the students. We pray that he may continue to guide and instruct the students of Notre Dame for many many years to come.

our Lady on December 8 . Then Christmas . carols those memorable first semester exams. Soon . . they found themselves hostesses on February 14 . . Valentines . . hearts . . . . Then the retreat May crowning and arrows galore retreat . picnics . and a host of other sweet memories that made their Freshman year subject matter for any diary . After a wonderful but short Goodbye for a few short months Vacation they returned self—assured sophomores who were quite positive that they knew most of the answers. They discovered that they were only slightly experienced ”sophs” who had only outgrown their short dresses and pigtails, Geometry, tri— nothing angles, circles, and supplementary angles caused numerous headaches . the first semester harder than to sew a straight seam . but all in all completed On New Year's day, resolutions . . They plunged into mid-year successfully . clown party in February . . second retreat in March . . Emter . . exams ribbons . . . and. flowers . . bonnets . spring was here again . . . more to their junior fond farewells . Looking forward . a few tears exams . for third time . . .

Entered Notre Dame the bye Another streaked . summer year “Wise" juniors they .were called . First place on the list of activities of that year Another party on November 20 for the entertainment of the student body months began to whirl by . and faculty February, March, and April . . juniors hardly seen . . Working intently for the Iunior—Senior banquet . .

Rosea . . . made by the colored paper of all kinds became life-like . Althea dozens . . Crowning day arrived . . Deserted 202, their spot of hybernation . .

“Now is the Hour" . . with the exciting evening was concluded with the song sad hearts . the thrill of the banquet now alive only in our memories . . With Looked forward to acquiring the title of dignified seniors of great anticipation .

1949 . . . little did they realize that their senior year spelled work and responsibility . . . . . Fall arrived a year of much tireless energy . . . zest to the year of study Easter vacation . , yearbook . . ads . . Pictures, Reception . Sodality class pictures . . and May crowning were a few class rings . . . typing of the highlights of the year given by the class. . The two dramatic productions Rachel the Leper Maiden . . and Mary Magdalene . Sodality Union . . . Study Club and the C.S.MtC. meetings were but a few of the extracurricular . . . These tasks and duties were the cause of the seniors scurrying through the halls . . . The year draws to a close . event after event completed . . . fortunes and misfortunes . . Iesus Through Mary. In these four words are expressed the aim and spirit of the Sodality—the nucleus of all activities here at Notre Dame.

Our Lady's Sodality tends to implant in the minds of all members a sense of lasting spiritual responsibility and continual devotion ‘to our patroness, Mary. The Sodalist acquires an ease and naturalness in spiritual matters and as a result lives her faith in all the ordinary, insignificant daily tasks. Thus members bring sanctity into their homes, for such is the true purpose of the Sodality—the santification of self and neighbor. Regular 40-minute, weekly, meetings, highlighted by inspiring radio skits, interesting phamphlet and article reports, mental prayer, the little Hour of Love, exciting contests, intensive study of the rules and quizzes, keep these noble ideals in the limelight. The Sodality trains its members not only to be good leaders but good followers, They become exemplary Catholics who harken to the call of Catholic Action. Through the Mission Committee, and with generous contributions in the form of mission clothes, needed articles, cash donations, subscriptions to mission magazines all amounting to several hundred dollars a year, they work hand in hand with the missionaries. of its

Thus it is that everywhere at Notre Dame, on the bulletin boards, at assemblies, or at discussions at the dinner table, you can sense the spirit of the Sodality the Spirit of Our Lady.

One of the most enjoyable and educational extra—curricular activities for the seniors this year was the Study Club. The meetings were

held twice each month at the Creighton Prep Library under the supervision of Father I. Gi Hogan S. I. The Catholic—HighSchools in the city of Omaha each sent eight or nine repre— sentatives to attend these meetings. Two of the more extensively discussed topics were the Commandments and Marriage. Notre Dame presided over the meeting on January 19. Pauline Stehno read a paper entitled ”Why Go Steady”, and Rosemarie Morbach’s paper answered the question, “Why Drink?"

It was on this day that the glee club met in the large music room to rehearse their many lovely and timely tunes. This year the musical group worked especially long on ”Pussy Cat" a novelty number, “I Hear America Singing" a patriotic melody, and “The Rosary”. This year's soloists were Lois Williamson, Regina Duster, loan Trummer, and Rosemarie Morbach.

vocal division, Rosemarie Morbach. Those receiving excellent ratings were: Rita Rolenc and Helen Enarson, both in piano divisions. Congratulations to all songsters and soloists for a fine record year of music. The music students were featured in a recital on May 15.
