Hey there, it’s been a while… to say the least. Well, I’m back!with a new team, a new vision and a whole new way to share what we have to say. Like many great programs before us, (ie: Sex & The City, Happy Days, Parks and Recreation, and The Office, etc) Not Necessarily The Hamptons™ has shifted focus from being a Talk Show, a round table discussion with Long Island Comedians to a Long Island Lifestyle media multi-media outlet, Not Necessarily The Hamptons.
My vision is to create a stylish, informative, innovative, authentic, conscious, inspiring, entertaining, entrepreneurial magazine/media movement that covers Long Island Life, NOT NECESSARILY THE HAMPTONS. While staying true to the Bohemian Lifestyle In a world of imitation and replication we wanted something different, something authentic, something truly reflective of Long Island life, something we could take beyond the pages
Long Island is the perfect combination of beach, vineyard and farm I simply adore the comforts of small town living with the glitz and glamor of one of the world’s TOP travel destinations, NYC at my fingertips. Allow me to show you the excitement, culture and beauty life on Long Island affords, I’m @micheleamcdonald welcome back to @notnecessarilythehamptons

The popularity of true crime tv shows and podcast have impacted all aspects of a criminal trial; the jury, ADAs, expert witnesses testimony and criminals.Based on these shows and the fiction and non-fiction cases juries have unreasonable expectations of forensic evidence at a crime scene. This is The CSI Effect. The CSI Effect is a recognized phenomenon in the criminal justice system.
Guilty Pleasure, Murder on Long Island will explore murder cases on that happened on Long Island, and the forensic evidence that helped catch the criminal.

World traveling, Award-Winning Sommelier of Rothmann's Steakhouse
Now in his 15th year as the Sommelier at Rothmann's Steakhouse, the venerable Gold Coast institution in East Norwich, Sean Gantner has built a career cultivating award-winning restaurant wine programs and spreading the gospel of drinking well across Long Island A 2007 graduate of the American Sommelier Association, Gantner was responsible for shepherding the lists at Mill Pond House, Piccolo of Huntington and Table 9 before taking the reins at Rothmann's, and most recently wrote the opening wine list for Louie's in Port Washington
He is a three-time (2011, 2015, 2017) member of the Sommelier Stars Team at Taste of Sonoma ~ Wine Country Weekend, the largest charity event in Sonoma. In 2014 he was a judge at the Wines of the Sud de France. In 2016 Sean was one of 15 sommeliers internationally selected to participate in the Napa Valley Vintners Steakhouse Sommelier Summit. In 2019, Raymond Vineyards asked Sean to be among the 13 sommeliers chosen to create the next vintage of their "Sommelier Selection" California Cabernet Sauvignon. The success of this project now has Sean working with veteran winemaker Mitch Cosentino to create Rothmann's exclusive private labels Cabernet Sauvignon and Chardonnay. Sean was the guest sommelier in the VIP lounge for the inaugural Fine Food and Wine Festival at Nassau Coliseum in 2018 and again in 2019 Since 2016, he has made frequent trips to Piedmont, Burgundy, Tuscany, the Rhone Valley and Bordeaux, attending international trade shows, tasting barrel samples and touring vineyards In 2024 he received the professional honor of a lifetime when he gained induction into the prestigious Commanderie du Bontemps, one of France's oldest wine brotherhoods

Aflowers, fresh cut herbs, citrus, minerals and cool veggie drawer notes, with frequent nods to honeysuckle, candied ginger and Asian spices. Their frames range from light-bodied CGJ (certifiable guzzle juice) to weighty, ethereal and cerebral. These are generally aged in stainless steel or old oak barrels, preserving the natural acidity, and lively fruity and spicy character, and are incredibly food friendly Among the producers to look out for are Schloss Gobelsburg, Schloss Liester, Dönnhoff, Hirsch, Bründlmayer. Setzer, FX Pichler or Nigl. I was once so bubbling over with ebullient compliments at a trade tasting that I felt perhaps like Liza Minelli at a drag show.
For fantastic all-day, poolside pleasure, look no further than the 1-2 punch of Muscadet and Txakoli (pronounced cha-ko-leee). Both wines come from regions along the Atlantic coast, with Muscadet hailing from France’s Loire Valley and Txakoli from Spain’s Basque region, near the Bay of Biscay. As the old adage tells us, what grows together goes together, and these wines are tailor made for raw clams, oysters, shrimp & lobster cocktail and ceviche
Bracingly fresh, bone dry, lower in alcohol and often with the slightest hint of effervescence, it’s easy to play Houdini and make bottles of these disappear.
Classic flavors are tart green apples with bright citrus notes and a saline minerality that leads to a lip-smacking juicy finish. Ulacia’s Txakoli and Domaine de la Pépière’s Muscadet are two fine producers to seek out.
The last few years have seen a huge surge in the popularity of Sancerre, and rightfully so This region in France’s eastern Loire Valley produces some of the world’s finest Sauvignon Blanc, though with increased demand, supply has not always been able to keep up, and prices are on the rise Fortunately, with wine, there are always fabulous alternatives right around the next corner. Barely a stones throw away are Pouilly-Fumé and Menetou-Salon, both known for that crisp, refreshing, mineral-driven style. While Menetou’s soil is nearly identical to that of Sancerre (clay and limestone), Pouilly-Fumé has a layer of flint that imparts a unique, smokey “gunpowder” element so integral to the wine’s identity it is actually even part of its name (fumé means smoked in French). Both are agreeable riffs on the theme and make for fun experimentation on hot summer days. Grab a bottle of each and see if your friends can tell the difference. Notable producers to look for are Cailbourdin in PouillyFumé and Domaine de L’Ermitage in Menetou-Salon. Cheers! .
CAP AINFoodie
Greetings fellow food lovers! My name is Will, but you all can call me “Captain Foodie.” I am a born and raised Long Islander, an airline pilot, and a huge food & drink enthusiast. I am excited to be able to contribute to Not Necessarily The Hamptons and highlight some great foodie spots from the rest of Long Island. Believe me, there are plenty of great places to eat here.
By Will Shaw
Today, I would like to feature Butera’s of Sayville, part of a locally owned small chain of family run Italian restaurants on Long Island and none of the locations are in the Hamptons! Now I do not typically go out of my way for Italian food, but my friend Michele and creator of this magazine twisted my arm enough to accompany her to Butera’s and it did not disappoint!
The atmosphere of the restaurant, I feel, is something you would come to expect from a family run Italian joint on the island The décor seemed slightly dated, but for a nostalgia buff like me, the late 90s vibe it gave off made me feel right at home We were greeted with a smile immediately as we walked in the door and we were seated quickly. We went at the lunch hour so we were given the lunch menu as well as a drink menu.
There many menu choices to select from ranging from anti-pasta/appetizers, to Italian inspired sandwiches, made to order pizzas, and entrees that I would consider Italian standards The hardest part was choosing what to eat! I mean, I AM a foodie and would eat and enjoy almost anything! Thankfully, when our waiter mentioned the specials it was obvious what my starter was going to be. I also have a tendency to be indecisive when I narrow my main dish choices down to two or three options so I had our waiter ‘break the tie’ so to speak So with that all said, lunch ended up being a comforting carrot soup and a super flavorful grilled chicken sandwich topped with gorgonzola, caramelized onion, and a balsamic glaze.
The puree of carrot soup was a perfect starter. It had the feeling of being a winter soup such as a butternut squash variant, very warm and comforting, while also seemingly light tasting, perfect for late spring time when this visit occurred. The flavor profile combined both sweet and savory elements, the sweet coming from the pureed carrot and the savory from the stock and seasonings added to it. I could detect a mix of salt, pepper, cumin, and maybe even some clove and nutmeg The soup seemed silky and almost slightly creamy in texture The lightly fried crispy onions on top also made the dish aesthetically pleasing while adding a texture contrast. Overall, this was a lovely way to start the meal!
Next up for my gut’s pleasure was the deliciously flavorful chicken sandwich topped with the onion, gorgonzola and balsamic glaze
One of the things I really appreciate about food is contrasting flavors and textures that harmonize into something amazing. I think some call that umami right?! The chicken breast was seasoned just right, well cooked, yet tender. Often with a lean piece of meat like chicken breast it is very easy to overcook the piece and dry it out Even if it had been slightly overcooked I feel the other elements of the sandwich could have added the moisture and creaminess to mask any dryness had that been an issue. The gorgonzola was warm, creamy, and tangy which was balanced by the sweet acidity from the onions and glaze. The focaccia bun had a wonderful texture with a nice and firm exterior with a moist inside
rounding out the whole sandwich. Now to feel better about myself and get more veggies into the meal I went with a small salad with a house dressing as my side dish As much as french fries always sound good, my figure would likely not have liked something so heavy! The salad was a nice fresh counter to the richness of the sandwich. I definitely recommend this selection should any of you try Butera’s for lunch, but the rest of the menu sounds quite delicious too!
The service was what many would expect from most restaurants as well Butera’s was not super busy at the time we went so the staff checked on us at the appropriate level of frequency and, most important to me, the staff kept my water glass full without me needing to ask. The on duty manager also addressed our table to make sure we were having a good culinary experience My foodie companion Michele seemed very happy with her cocktail and her pasta dish which I can only describe as a boujee Mac n Cheese. Its actual title was way more fancy but I do not remember the name of the entree I think I was too busy enjoying my own meal to ask! The portion was so plentiful that she had leftovers! The price point was about mid-range matching the atmosphere/ decor of the restaurant. Expect to spend about $20-$40 per person for a meal at lunch depending if you choose a sandwich or an entree Overall, Butera’s of Saville is worth the visit if you love good Italian food at a mid range price. Bon appetit!

SINGER, SONGWRITER, STORYTELLER, ARTIST ChristopherJon
By Kelly Codrington Photography Kelly Codrington
Growing up, Christopher Jon was surrounded by a rich tapestry of sounds. From the acoustic melodies his father strummed to the vinyl records spinning in the living room, his childhood home was always alive with soulful music.
That constant soundtrack sparked a love for singing and storytelling that would later define his journey as an artist. In his early years, Christopher Jon was captivated by the raw energy of rock and the heartfelt narratives of folk. While he experimented with guitar to support his songwriting, it was his voice and the stories he carried within that truly set him apart. Influenced by artists who defied genres and blended blues,
rock, and country, Christopher began crafting lyrics that mirrored his life’s experiences, using melody as a vessel for emotion. Through his late teens and into adulthood, Christopher Jon honed his craft
musicians and producers from New York to LA. From intimate professional collaborations, each step brought him closer to discovering his authentic sound, one centered on vocal expression and heartfelt songwriting.
Not long into this
Christopher Jon found love and started a family. He stepped away from music to dedicate himself

Music became Christopher Jon’s lifeline back to his daughter, as singing was her greatest joy. Picking up the microphone again allowed him to honor her spirit while reigniting his passion for sharing music with others. Today, Christopher is collaborating with producers nationwide, finishing his second music video, and channeling his voice into a forthcoming fulllength album. His journey is far from over. With every note, Christopher Jon carries forward the rhythm within, a rhythm of resilience, love, and a voice that refuses to fade
