EMPOWERING YOUTH THROUGH MUSIC: PORTER GOODWILL(BGC) x NOTES FOR NOTES (MEMPHIS)
This month at Porter Goodwill Boys & Girls Club, youth made beats, experienced recording, explored songwriting, and dove into a bit podcasting—turning ideas into sound and stories. Beyond music, these sessions built confidence, fostered collaboration, and gave young people a space to share their voices and talent. It’s inspiring to see their creativity and passion take center stage.
GHOST NOTES VOL. 3: N4N HALLOWEEN ALBUM FEATURING OUR TRACK “FORT KNOCKS”
The creativity is in full swing! We’re excited to announce the release of the Notes for Notes Halloween Album, Ghost Notes Vol. 3, featuring hauntingly fun tracks brought to life by talented youth from across the N4N network. From eerie beats to catchy hooks, these young artists poured their imagination, skill, and passion for music into every track—including our very own submission, “Fort Knocks,” featuring youth from both Ira Samelson BGC and Bernal E. Smith Sr. BGC here in Memphis.

We’re excited to announce the start of our new podcasting initiative, For Lack of Better Words, featuring THE YOUTH OUT LOUD. This emerging projectiswhereyoungvoicesstumble,stretch,andshinewhilelearningto speak their truth. It’s where young voices rise, stories unfold, and self-expression takes center stage. It’s a space for real conversations, raw creativity, and the sounds of becoming — because finding your voice doesn’t happen all at once. It’s not just “youth being loud” — it’s youth being heard. Our older youth are becoming true lamps to the feet of the next generation—sharing their skills, creativity, and confidence to help others find their voice. Whether they’re showing a newcomer how to record a track, lead a jam, or host a podcast, they’re guiding with patience and purpose. These moments of mentorship spark courage, connection, and growth on both sides—reminding us that creativity thrives in community andthateveryleaderwasonceabeginnerfindingtheirownrhythm.

Each month, our space comes alive with sound, stories, and self-expression. Music Discovery and Spotlight Sessions have become a favorite hub where curiosity turns into creativity and quiet voices find their volume. These sessions aren’taboutperfection—they’reaboutexploration.Fromtryingnewinstruments to producing tracks or recording podcasts, participants build confidence, collaborate, and discover new ways to share their stories. Every month, we witness incredible growth and creativity—proof that progress happens in rhythm,inharmony,andinthecouragetotrysomethingnew.
