We intoduce to you Dr. Michelle Emett, that has been a Medical doctor for 16 years and has found her passion in Aesthetic Medicine. Michelle spent many years working in the field of trauma and accident and emergency medicine where she learnt the surgical skills that are now applied in aesthetic medicine. She attained her medical degree from Wits and thereafter completed her ACLS, ATLS, APLS (advanced cardiac life support, trauma life support and paediatric life support) certificates. In 2000 she passed her national surgical primaries exam. She also holds a diploma in Business Administration and Leadership.

The long and the short of it is that you can eat as much as you like of all the healthy foods. Unhealthy is seen to be Sugar & Starch. We have been greatly misinformed regarding the health aspects of fats and salt etc. It isn’t in the ‘health industry’s ‘ best interest for us to be truly fabulously well - thus - do not trust advertisements and ‘experts’, do your own research! It will change your life! All material below as published by Garry Frasca on Paleo Living South Africa So what is Paleo?

We call it Primal eating as we include dairy which most Paleo Plans do not. ?

Eating healthy meals by keeping my carbs intake low and increasing the protein intake. ?

Eating a balanced meal with vegetables and cutting out all sugar, grains wheat, artificial sweeteners, fizzy drinks etc. ?

No food containing words that I cannot pronounce or understand what they are. As you will see if you follow the links to other sites, if it comes in a box or a packet don't eat it. ?

We don't weigh anything. ?

Don't use smaller plates to confuse the brain that the meal is bigger than it is. ?

Bacon for breakfast. ?

We have included dairy in our eating plan. I can give up icecream (Not really, see below for how we compensate) but not a good piece of cheese. ?

We have always grown our own herbs and now increased our garden to include more vegetables. ?

Eat all you want

Protein/Meat Beef, pork, bacon, game, chicken, all livers, offal. No problem in eating the fat or skin of the chicken.

Biltong as part of the meal or great as a snack.

For those who can afford it the best option would be to go for free range meat.

Seafood All kinds: Fatty fish such as salmon, mackerel or herring. Prawns, crayfish etc. If eating out make sure it's not crumbed/battered Eggs Boiled, fried, omelettes, scrambled, poached any way you like them.

Cook with Olive Oil, Butter, grape seed oil, lard, Duck fat, coconut oil, Avocado oil and cream when you cook. Look out for those rich creamy sauces that you were always afraid to eat just use the correct ingredients*.

Vegetables Up to you how much of these you eat/drink: Fruit, Alcohol, Dark chocolate, Water, Coffee/Tea with full-fat milk or cream, Pure Honey from a reliable source

Just Don’t do it!

Avoid: Sugar: Fizzy drinks, cold drinks, sweets, fruit juice, energy drinks, chocolate, cakes, donuts, pastries, ice cream, breakfast cereals. All artificial sweeteners.

Starch: Pasta, potatoes, French fries (slap chips on the list of what I miss), potato chips, rice, porridge, bread, muesli etc. “Wholegrain products” are not any better.

Dairy: Low fat milk and skim milk as they contain a lot of milk sugar. Avoid flavoured, sugary and low-fat/no fat products.

No margarine or man made spreads (Butter is Better and allowed!) No Beer : ( - replace with Red Wine : )

Turning shells into pearls…

Hermanus is renowned for it’s soughtafter Abelone. The pearly, luminescent lustre of abalone shell has been put to exceptionally good use by entrepreneur Lawton Roberts.

You have never looked this good

Tons of the shells are discarded or crushed for fertiliser annually by the aquaculture farmers in Walker Bay but now Lawton Roberts has found a way to ‘upcycle’ this waste material.

‘Upcycling, recycling and downcycling – he does all three when he uses perlemoen shells that would be disposed of as garbage by the farms,’ says Lawton, a designer and artist who has dreamt of finding some way to use the beauty of the shells and has created the trendy pearly-mirror frame.

Lawton’s eye for detail and precision found a perfect outlet in the meticulous cutting and polishing of the shells before he sets to work on his mirror frame and other creations for Lawton Roberts Design. The exquisite handwork and design of the pearlymirrors have caught the eye of fashionable Blues restaurant in Camps Bay and hang in this top Cape hot spot.

A large mosaic mirror, can take up to 32 days to manufacture. The frame consists of 2033 little tiles, all handcut! Consider that each tile needs four cuts to be removed from the shell, then a further four cuts are made to get it to the exact size. The outer edge tiles requires a further 1 or 2 cuts! Meaning that some tiles were cut ten times!! This resulted in Lawton making 17009 cuts before completing a large frame.
