Winstanley Wizards Table Tennis Club Kelsey Andrews found her best form this season which enabled her to win trophies which she received at The Leicester Table Tennis League end of season presentation evening. At 16, a student of Bosworth Academy Desford, she triumphed against quality opposition to win the ladies handicapped Rose Johnson Memorial tournament in great style at her first attempt. In r ecognition of her relentless efforts to promote table tennis, this versatile young lady was also presented with the Phil Reid award.

Kelsey has been working with Helen Lower from Table Tennis England to promote ladies table tennis sessions in an effort to encourage ladies into the sport. Together with brother Dan she has been campaigning to attract new players at Bosworth Academy. Kelsey has recently qualified as a Table Tennis England coach utilising her skills within the Wizards club .She is also one of a small group of up and coming young players who are gaining valuable experience competing in Table Tennis England Tournaments. As a valuable member of the Wizards, Kelsey sits on the club's management committee where she represents our young members .In addition this year she was selected to sit on the Blaby District Youth Council. To top it all, Kelsey has been extremely busy preparing for her 'A' level examinations - we all wish her well.

Kirby Muxloe FC to host famous ‘football nursery’ Crewe Alexandra Kirby Muxloe FC, of the United Counties League, is to host a team from Crewe Alexandra, famous for its Academy and giving a lifeline to players such as Neil Lennon and Robbie Savage, on the evening August 1, 2016.

The game will be played at Kirby Muxloe’s Ratby Lane ground, where there will be ample parking, and tickets will be just £5, with all the funds going to help the Kirby Muxloe teams during the coming season.

They also offered a lifeline to Neil Lennon, who had been injured while at Manchester City, and Robbie Savage, who was languishing at Manchester United. Both regained their form and fitness and both went on to become Leicester City heroes.

Football plays an important role in the village and the Club runs junior teams as well as Reserve and First Team sides. This is a great opportunity to support the village and the Club, and have a great evening.

The Club will be open from 17.30, and the bars will also be serving a range of soft drinks, including tea and coffee. Food will be available.

The Consultation has now closed officers are now going through all the letters and email and comments received during the consultation period. I would like to thank the residents and the Parish Council for their support in our campaign to reduce the speed limit to 40 mph both on the A50 at Bradgate Hill and on the A50 near Markfield Road Groby. We should have the results in the next 3 or 4 weeks. I will keep residents fully updated.

Planning Application Lady Jane Grey Primary School 16/00424/FUL I am pleased to announce that the above planning application for Lady Jane Grey Primary School has been approved by planning officers at Hinckley and Bosworth Borough Council. Officers were aware that I fully supported and endorsed the application.

The new classrooms will be a great benefit to the children’s learning environment and will be great improvement to the infrastructure of the school. The work is scheduled to start during the summer holidays.

Road Closure Burroughs Road Ratby The Burroughs Road in Ratby will be closed from Monday 1st August at its junction with Main Street for up to 2 weeks. This is to facilitate an upgraded supply to the schools electrical system and a new supply to the new classrooms. Be Aware Of Spoof Emails Claiming ‘Buyer Protection’ Online shopping websites are being utilised by fraudsters to advertise vehicles for sale which do not exist. After agreeing to purchase the vehicle via email with the fraudsters, buyers then receive emails purporting to be from Amazon Payments and/or Amazon Flexible Payment Service stating that their money will be held in an ‘escrow account’ (a bank account held by a third party, used as a temporary holding account during a transaction between two parties- for a 7 day ‘cooling off’ period). Once happy with the purchase the email indicates the money will be released to the seller, therefore offering ‘buyer protection’. In reality these emails are fraudulent and do not come from Amazon.

Rio 2016 Olympics Ticket Fraud The Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro begin on 6th August 2016 and as of late June, you will be able to purchase tickets from the Rio 2016 ticket offices. Purchasing from an unauthorised seller or a ticket tout could leave you out of pocket; not only are the tickets advertised at inflated prices, but there is also a risk that the tickets purchased are counterfeit or do not exist. Any individual with a counterfeit ticket will be refused entry.

To help protect yourself, the list of authorised sellers has been published on the official website and provides a list of trusted resellers; this can be found at www.rio2016.com.

Equally, tickets purchased that are no longer needed can be sold through the Rio 2016 website for a 100% reimbursement of the amount paid if the tickets are resold.

Fake Letter Boxes The National Fraud Intelligence Bureau (NFIB) has noticed an increase in reports of fraudsters placing fake letter boxes on residential properties in an attempt to harvest the mail.

Residents are sometimes unaware of the fake letterbox as the fraudsters will periodically remove the item, which may leave notable markings. The mail is then used to open various lines of credit with financial providers in the name of the innocent resident.

Protect Yourself • Be vigilant and check for any suspicious activity, tampering of your post/letterbox or for suspicious glue markings on the wall.

• Check all post received from financial institutions, even if it appears unsolicited.

• Consider reporting theft of mail to your local police force and any cases of identity fraud to Action Fraud.

The day had finally arrived! I jumped out of bed and got dressed. I put my clothes on I rushed to school because I

coach and I sat next to Lucia who is my best friend. It was a very long journey and it took two hours to get there.

Lucia and I played some clapping games and sang some songs and it was fun but then I felt a little bit sleepy so I had a rest.

Eventually we arrived at Mablethorpe and we had our lunch. My lunch was delicious. After lunch we went on the mini adventure playground

it was time for a long walk to The Lifeboat which had a slide, a climbing wall and even a giant rope swing!

He told us all about his job and it was interesting because we got to see the Lifeboat and we realised how important the job of the coastguards are. This was the best part of the day…we got to sit in the Lifeboat! Carl also showed us his uniform and he became very hot when wearing it. We could tell because his face went bright red! It was 5 o’ clock and time to head back to our holiday home.

When we were back we had a chance to play and rest in ‘the chill out room’. A little while later it was time for dinner and I was hungry. For dinner I had fish fingers, chips and beans and it was all very tasty. After we got into our pyjamas and we watched ‘Rio’ before bedtime, it was really funny.

Then we felt very sleepy so we went to bed. I whispered to my teddy “wasn’t that a great day?”

When it was the morning, I woke and read a little bit of my book. A few minutes later Miss Mistry came into our room said “Are you ready for breakfast?” We went to the large hall to have breakfast.

Once we had our breakfast we got ready for a day on the beach and so we set off!

Miss Mistry took us along a mysterious, sandy path so we followed it. I could hear waves and then right in front of our eyes was the beach! Miss Mistry told us not to go past the two red flags so we

were safe. I enjoyed building a sandcastle with Mrs Holland and then I played in the huge, cold waves! I was soaking wet but I didn’t mind. For lunch we had scrumptious fish and chips.

When we had finished we got into our groups and went to the gift shops. I bought a diamond, shiny shells and a squidgy tomato. We all met up on the beach and played in the sand again. Everyone was having so much fun in the sunshine! I saw children having donkey rides and lots of people walking with their for ice cream

dogs. It really was our lucky day because then it was time and a Sand Train’. We all hopped on board and the train driver took us over the sand and then slowly he even went in the water, I held on to the train tight! The train took us all the way back to our holiday home and we all had a warm shower and that night it was disco time!

This was the best trip ever and we didn’t want to go home! I would like to say a special thank you to Miss Mistry who organise this amazing trip for us and all the teachers who looked after us. We will remember our trip to the seaside forever!

Ratby Primary School Celebrate the Queen’s Birthday Friday 10th July was a very special day at Ratby Primary School because the whole school took part in celebrating the Queen’s official birthday. Children dressed in red, white and blue and spent the morning learning about different countries of the Commonwealth. In the afternoon, they made sandwiches, decorated tablecloths and had a huge tea party. Finally, after watching a commemorative live broadcast about her life, they sung the British Anthem and of course Happy Birthday to the Queen! It was a fantastic day and great fun was had by all.

5’s visit to Whetstone Pastures farm

On Friday 17th June, year 5 visited Whetstone farm. When year 5 arrived, Sandra and Farmer

Anthony, took us in to the out-door classroom. After that, we were split into two groups, one went on a tractor ride around the farm and the other went walking though the fields, finding out many facts about Whetstone farm. Did you know the farm has been there for more than one hundred years!

While on the tractor ride we saw some cute baby Calf’s. The other group went to taste the gooseberries. They were super-duper sour!

The groups swapped over and the group that went on the walking tour met two goats called Mimi and Sid. After that, both groups came back and had lunch. When everyone had finished, we all walked to the strawberry field. We were allowed to fill up a punnet of strawberries each and take them home. They tasted absolutely amazing!

Year 5 Drayton Manor Trip!

On Thursday 9th June, year 5 went to Drayton Manor to experience how roller coasters work, e.g. Ben 10, shockwave and many more.

We went into a workshop with Jess, (the educational helper at the time) to find out what happens underneath the carriages and explore how exactly they work. We found out how heavy the wheels are and how many times you need to change them in a year. We also found out how many miles per hour the ride ‘Shockwave’ goes – 53mph!

After we found out how roller coasters work, we had lunch and a stroll around the park, ending up going to the zoo. We found the zoo very interesting. Also we found the chimp very playful, in the Chimpanzee enclose he tried to play a game with us and even threw his red and yellow stripy ball out of his enclosure! We then went on rides for the whole afternoon e.g. air race, Storm force 10, Malestorm, rapids and many more! After that we had about 20 minutes spare to have an ice cream and go back to the zoo, one more time. Then 20 minutes later we sadly left the exciting, fantastic park. But the memory will be saved in our minds.

We had a fantastic day at Drayton Manor and many more. We loved the experience we had to begin our topic!

Queen’s Birthday Celebration!

On Friday 10th June we celebrated the official birthday of the Queen.

We dressed in red, white and blue - the colours of the British flag.

In the morning we learnt about the Queen, the Commonwealth and her past. We had a big tea party and we made delicious British sandwiches. We bought in mouth-watering crisps, scrumptious cup-cakes and fantastic biscuits. We also had some orange and blackcurrant juice. Together as a school we sang the National Anthem to conclude this very special day.

It may seem strange because, as you have probably heard, for financial reasons we can no longer take in dogs at Redgate for re-homing – we are still holding our annual Dog Show and Open Day on the second Sunday each August!

This year, the big day for the Markfield sanctuary is Sunday 14th August, and, as usual there will be lots to do, whether you are bringing a dog or not. We open for dog registrations at 10.30am and have three marvellous judges and an agility trainer signed up to run the competitions. There will also be all the side shows and activities you would expect , including the Bowmen of Bosworth with their ‘Have-a-go Archery’, a Coconut Shy, giant Bouncy Castle, Slide and Trampolines, Carousel, Pony Rides, Test your Strength, Birds of Prey display, Candy Floss machine, AND the amazing Sambando Drummers who have to be heard to be believed. The fabulous Tunnel Micro-Brewery will also be setting up near the barbecue, selling their delicious artisan beers.There will also be live music, hot and cold food, cupcakes and ices fresh from the van!Please make a date in your diary today – and please come along and support us on 14th August. Fly tipping Householders warned to take care over fly tipping.

Residents are being urged to take care over who they pay to take waste away from their homes or they may find that getting rid of rubbish cheaply proves to be an expensive mistake.

The reminder comes after a large pile of rubbish was dumped on a roadside outside Earl Shilton last week in one of the largest fly tip incidents the council has ever seen.

It is estimated that this larger than usual pile of rubbish - comprising a mixture of discarded household appliances, trees, mattresses and building rubble - will need the equivalent of 30 trucks to clear away.

From small deposits of one or two black sacks, through to full van loads of construction material, green waste and tyres, the Borough Council had to deal with 602 incidents of fly tipping last year - an increase of 20 per cent over 2014. In this instance, the cost of clearing the fly tip will be met by the land owner as it is on private land, but taxpayers typically foot the bill for the 40 fly tips illegally dumped around the borough every month. Clearing fly tips costs the taxpayers of Hinckley & Bosworth around £26,000 every year Many of these incidents are the result of small businesses being paid by residents to dispose of their rubbish legally, but then fly-tipping it instead, so the council's Clean Neighbourhoods Team are keen to make householders more wary of individuals or small business who offer to take away waste for a seemingly small fee as it could be that their waste will end up on the roadside nearby.

Businesses that carry waste should be registered with the Environment Agency as licensed waste carriers and they have to pay to dispose of waste, so householders are urged to always beware of being offered unusually low prices for this service coupled with the absence of the appropriate registration.

By law, individuals have a duty of care to take reasonable measures to ensure that waste produced on their property is passed on to an authorised person who will dispose of the waste responsibly. According to the duty of care, if the waste can be traced back to its source and the individual hasn't taken reasonable measures then they may be liable for a fine of up to £5,000.

Lisa Kirby, Senior clean Neighbourhood Officer at Hinckley and Bosworth Borough Council said: “If the price seems to be too good to be true, beware, it could cost you much more in the end. Our best tip is to ensure you ask the waste carrier to complete a ‘waste transfer notice’ that gives you a written and signed record of what waste is being removed, who is removing it and when it was removed. “You can print a waste transfer notice at www.environment-agency .gov.uk/dutyofcare or simply create your own capturing the information above. However the waste carrier should provide the waste transfer notice.”

At the same time, the council is keen to crack down on those who tip rubbish illegally.

During the next few months the council is looking at adopting a Fixed Penalty Notice for Fly Tipping offences which means that anyone who is caught fly tipping could face a fine of up to £400.

The maximum penalty on conviction for a fly tipping offence is £50,000 and the possibility of a one year prison sentence. Although the council regularly fines fly tippers, it needs help from the public to catch more people in the act. Anyone who witnesses a fly tipping incident, especially if they can provide a vehicle registration, is urged to contact the council on 01455 238141 or visit www.hinck ley-bosworth.gov.uk/streetcleaning.

The Executive at HBBC have now voted through an increase locally of fines that will see fly tippers being charged a maximum for small scale tipping of waste at 400 pounds being reduced to 125 pounds for early payment.

Persistent offenders will be prosecuted through the courts.

Hate Crime.

Leicestershire’s Police and Crime Commissioner and its Chief Constable have spoken out to reassure our communities following reports elsewhere in the country of incidents of post-referendum hate crimes being committed.

Police forces in other parts of the country are investigating reports of hate crimes which may be directly related to the vote to leave the EU. Both Lord Willy Bach and Simon Cole have today said that all hate crime, whatever its motivation, will not be tolerated and reports of any such crimes in Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland are treated extremely seriously.

The Force regularly monitors any fluctuations in hate crime (as we do in all crime types) in order to identify any emerging spikes and any particular areas which require additional focus and operational attention. To date, there has been no increase in such crimes being reported to us in the force area when we compare figures for the last few days with previous weeks.

Lord Bach said: “I recognise that the result of the referendum has caused some anxiety and uncertainty about the future. At such a time, the Chief Constable and I are keen to do all we can to reassure all sections of our diverse communities.

“On Monday morning the Chief briefed me on the potential for hate crimes and incidents following the referendum vote. I take such issues extremely seriously and I urge our local communities to support each other and to report any instances to either the police on 101 or to True Vision, regardless of what may have motivated such crimes.

Chief Constable Cole said: “The communities in both the city of Leicester and in the counties of Leicestershire and Rutland have richly deserved reputations for being happy, harmonious and cohesive, and we must all work together to ensure that continues to be the case.

Whilst Ozzy was in attendance at County Hall for their service, Chris, as the village's Parade Marshall, alongside Steve Roche and our Standard Bearer Tony Briggs, laid a wreath on behalf of the village and the Royal British Legion. The flag was lowered along with the Standard and a 2 minute silence was observed.

We are a small, friendly group of people, from Kirby Muxloe and surrounding villages, who all enjoy writing in one form or another. Apparently this rise in 'grey collar workers' is down to the baby boomer generation having remained healthier for longer than their predecessors.

Walking Football Tournament Gets Players Into Euro Spirit Teams from Leicestershire, Derbyshire and Northamptonshire mark the start of Euro 2016 with Walking Football tournament at Holmes Park, Whetstone To mark the start of Euro 2016, the Leicestershire & Rutland County FA hosted a special Walking Football tournament at Holmes Park on Sunday 12th June; showcasing the fact that football is open to every generation.

Despite the constant drizzle, over seven teams from across Leicestershire and surrounding counties travelled to Holmes Park. Teams journeyed from both Derbyshire and Northamptonshire so as to get involved, all inspired by the opening games taking place over the previous Friday and Saturday in France.

The teams were split into two groups, with the top two from each group going through to the semi-finals and, later, the final. In the first semi-final, Northampton’s Netherton Walkers emerged 1-0 victors over Leicester Gold Stars in a tight game decided by a solitary goal late in the second half.

Meanwhile, in the second semi-final, Derbyshire’s Stanton Ilkeston took on Leicester All Stars.

Another close game ensured, with the All Stars taking a foothold in the game early in the second half, sealing a 2-0 win late on.

As a result, it was Northamptonshire versus Leicestershire in the final as Netherton Walkers and Leicester All Stars faced off in the last game of the day – and following a domestic season that saw Leicester installed as the home of the Premier League champions, Leicestershire came out on top once again at Holmes Park. Both sides played some impressive football in another tight, competitive fixture; however, a single goal midway through the second half saw the All Stars crowned tournament winners following a 1-0 victory.

Fay Longdon, Football Development Officer (Recreation) at the Leicestershire & Rutland County FA, oversaw the event and said: “It was great to see teams from the local area competing in our Walking Football tournament. For many of the players, it was the first time they had played in a competitive Walking Football tournament, with some having not played competitively for over 20 years!

“Despite the rain and the slippery conditions on the pitch, all participants had a great time and enjoyed themselves. To see that was fantastic, as it’s the main reason we wanted to host a tournament like this.”
