Itchy, dry skin? Eczema is the name given to a group of conditions that cause skin to become itchy, inflamed, or have a rash-like appearance. There are seven types of eczema but atopic eczema is by far the most common. Skin is typically red, dry and itchy.

For advertising, leaflet delivery and articles, get in touch with the details below.

Topical steroids and prescription medicines can help with eczema symptoms, but they’re often not without unwanted side-effects. If you’re looking for a more natural approach to managing eczema, there are a number of plant remedies that can help to ease the itch and soothe irritated skin.

Finally, calendula has been used for centuries as a soothing and calming remedy to help with skin inflammation, burns and cuts. As far is research into the effectiveness of calendula for eczema is concerned, more is needed, but anecdotal evidence does suggest it may help to keep skin hydrated and fight infection.

Evening primrose oil is a rich plant source of omega-6 fatty acids and gamma-linolenic acid, which, when taken orally, may help to ease the inflammation characteristic of eczema. It’s also worth noting that many people with eczema seem to lack an enzyme that converts essential fatty acids into prostaglandins, anti-inflammatory compounds that help to counter an allergic

Oatmeal can also be very soothing on irritated, itchy skin. Blend with lukewarm water to form a paste and then apply topically to the affected area. A less messy but equally soothing option, is to run yourself an oatmeal bath. You can use any kind of oatmeal but keep your ingredients natural. A top tip is to pour a cup of oats into the toe section of an old pair of tights and tie in a knot so as to not clog the bath.

Over £2000 has already been raised for the charities. She found the sky-dive experience “amazing, exhilarating and thrilling”, jumping from the aircraft at 14,000 feet [strapped to an instructor], plunging in free fall for about 45 seconds at a speed of about 120mph towards the earth, “struggling a little to breathe”, before feeling the sudden uplift as the parachute opened to begin the drift down, “floating for about five minutes”, to the airfield where she landed safely.

The treasurer of the group, Julie Bailey, has completed a sky dive from Langar Airfield, Nottinghamshire, to raise money for both Parkinson’s UK and the Motor Neurone Disease Team at the LOROS Hospice in Leicester. Julie has worked for both organisations as a fully qualified complimentary therapist.

At the top of this list? It has to be neem. Neem is a very valuable plant when it comes to treating skin conditions. The properties of the plant make it wonderful at relieving any discomfort or itchiness associated with dry, sensitive skin and it works quickly and effectively to ease inflammation and pain – making it a perfect option for eczema-prone skin. A. Vogel’s Neem Cream and Oil can be applied directly to the affected area as needed. A Neem Shampoo, with extracts of neem leaves, is also available for dry, irritated and flaky scalps. Do bear in mind though, that neem is not suitable for those with nut allergies or pregnant women.

The Group also provides practical support to foster improved communication between the practice and its patients and help patients to take more responsibility for their health. This unique partnership between patients and their practice is essential to achieving high quality and responsive care. It will benefit the practice and group to be supported by members reflective of the patient population. We therefore encourage patients from all ethnic and diverse demographic backgrounds to join.

A testamentary PPT can only be executed whilst both partners remain alive. Upon death of the first partner, their Will specifies that their share of the property is placed into trust and names the ultimate beneficiary of this share, normally the children and grandchildren of the deceased. The surviving partner, under the terms of the trust, has the unequivocal right to remain living in the property for the rest of their life. On the death of the second partner the Trust comes to an end and the property passes to the

A PPT can help each person in a relationship ensuring that their children inherit their share of the property, while giving their surviving partner the ability to live in the property for the rest of their life. If the surviving partner wants to move to another property, they can still sell the property and the proceeds to be used to purchase a new property, the terms of the Trust remain over the new property.

This last point can be particular interest to couples who have come together and have children with different partners.

Most people hope that their estate will pass on to their children and grandchildren eventually.

Currently, the meetings are held every eight weeks on a Wednesday evening from 6 pm to 7 pm. The meetings are ‘face-to-face’ at the Warren Lane surgery but also include a ‘virtual’ participation option available via Microsoft Teams.

But this will not happen for many, unless careful arrangements have been made to protect their assets from being taken towards the end of their life to pay for care home fees. The solution to help protect your estate is a Will incorporating a Property Protection Trust (PPT).

The Forest House Medical Centre’s Patient Participation Group (PPG) is currently having a re-boot following a couple of years when the Covid-19 pandemic made organising meetings and recruiting new members challenging. The aims of the PPG are to generate a mechanism whereby patients are able to offer views, ensuring the patients perspective is at the heart of local provision of healthcare. Sugary processed carb-heavy diets cause addictions and illnesses. Addictions and illnesses make £billions for the pharmaceuticals and addictions industries, e.g., alcohol, nicotine, gambling, social media, etc. Did you know?...

• In most people sugars and carbs cause inflammation, obesity and anxiety, which wreck sleep and natural life balance - emotional, physical, spiritual.

For more information see/use the free Freshwell app and website founded by two practising NHS GPs in Essex in 2018: LowCarbFreshwell.co.uk. Their work is reversing, healing and preventing chronic illnesses, notably obesity and diabetes type 2, and the terrible killer diseases caused by diabetes, notably of the heart, liver, brain and most cancers.

Blue light from screens before bedtime is very damaging to sleep. Poor sleep upsets hormonal balance, hunger regulation, mental health, healing and much more.

• EASE OF MOVEMENT - EXERCISE - VITALITY

We also work with employers to help you set up your own healthy lifestyle education groups, offering vast improvements in staff health and organisational efficiencies.

If our level of blood glucose (sugar) constantly exceeds just ONE TEASPOON, our life balance suffers, especially:

The good news is that when you know how something can be fixed, then you can fix it! Carbs and sugars do not satisfy hunger for very long. Ultraprocessed foods are very unhealthy. Information enables you to make your own healthy lifestyle decisions. LiveWildLiveFree.org is a social enterprise founded in April 2021, based in Anstey, connected and operating much more widely. We are now trained Practitioners for HealthResults.com. The website offers a free app and vast free resources about health. • Last month we listed some of the foods and drinks with massive amounts of hidden sugars, e.g., rice, potatoes, bread, pasta, breakfast cereals and sweet fruit.

• Sugar is the gateway drug to other addictions and many of us get addicted to sugar as children.

A healthy eating lifestyle is much cheaper than the lifestyle that big corporations advertise and sell to you.

INFLAMMATION is a feedback loop: brain to body. It causes anxiety, depression and worse. It damages tiny blood vessels, leading to most modern chronic illnesses.

ADDICTIONS switch and connect destructively - very profitably for big business - for example smoking to 'comfort eating'; gambling (to debt); shopping (to debt); drugs to dependency; over-exercise, overwork, social media to stress and poor sleep.

Councillors have adopted the Neighbourhood Plan for Leicester Forest East after being approved in a referendum.

FORTHCOMING EVENTS

Neighbourhood Plans have already been made in Blaby Village and the ‘Fosse Villages,’ a group of 10 villages in the south of the District. The Cosby Neighbourhood Plan has recently been examined and will be presented to Council later this year, as well as work taking place in Glenfield, as Parishes work hard to ensure they have a say in the future of their local area.

Tuesday 9.00 – 12.00 and 2.00 – 6.00

As from 3rd October, and to coincide with our Warm Haven initiative, we will be adding hot toast with jam/ marmalade and butter, and toasted teacakes to our café menu. All part of our mission to keep us warm and cosy over the winter months!

DO JOIN US!

Blaby District Council has worked closely with Leicester Forest East Parish Council in assisting the development of their Neighbourhood Plan. Policies within the Neighbourhood Plan cover housing, the built and natural environment and employment.

And here they are, with our very own Angela Hollington, who, as well as being the ukulele queen, bakes those delicious Victoria sponges and brownies for our coffee mornings and moreover is an active volunteer with the TicketsLibrary.are£12.00

There are also policies in relation to valued community facilities and amenities, whilst the employment policies address both existing and new employment development as well as home-working and broadband infrastructure for the area.

Neighbourhood Plan Formally Adopted In Leicester Forest East Article by Lydia Till

“Neighbourhood Plans are all about residents having a say about their area, and this is exactly what Leicester Forest East have done. With Neighbourhood Plans growing in popularity, officers will continue to work with other interested Parishes on progressing with their plans for their areas.”

A referendum took place on Thursday 30 June, with residents of the village backing the Neighbourhood Plan with 85% of the votes cast. Councillors formally approved the plan to be used as part of the legal process Neighbourhood Plans must go through.

You may remember the very successful night a couple of years ago when the N’Ukes performed a really good gig at the Library with their ukulele band and a Ploughman’s and Puddings supper. We have wanted to repeat this for a long time and here we go.

Councillor Ben Taylor, Portfolio Holder for Planning Delivery and Enforcement and Corporate Transformation, said: “This approval by Council is another fantastic step for local voices being heard in planning matters. An enormous amount of hard work from Officers and the Parish Council has taken place to get here.

towards the colder weather of autumn and winter, we are all likely to be only too well aware of the increasing difficulties posed by rises in the cost of living, in particular the rise in energy prices. As a public service, we want to contribute towards helping members of our community to cope with this worrying situation. We have therefore decided to open up the Library as a Warm Haven during our normal opening hours over the course of autumn and winter. As a reminder, these are our opening hours:

What this means is that we invite you to use the Library as a place of warmth and comfort during the colder months, starting on Monday 3rd October. You can come along and just sit with your family and friends, or on your own, chat, have a cup of tea/coffee. You can bring your children along to play – we have loads of toys. Maybe you would like to use the computers, bring your craft or hobby activities with you, socialise with others, do a jigsaw, play board games – whatever. If you want to borrow books, that’s fine. If you don’t, that’s fine too. We will be offering hot drinks on a buy one per person, then get a free refill basis (note that refills will be instant!). We will also be offering toast and toasted teacakes at very reasonable prices, in addition to out usual fare.

Now here’s a novelty – for us, at any rate – apple pressing! This is part of Natural Apple Week. We will have an apple press in the Library garden, so bring along your excess apples and press your own apple juice. Sounds like fun – if a trifle messy!

Neighbourhood Plans are used when planning applications are decided, in addition to the Council’s Local Plan and other material considerations.

The housing policies look at the mix of house types, affordable housing in the area and their design to ensure that the right types of homes are built in Leicester Forest East. Environmental policies cover the Local Green Space (Leicester Forest East Spinney) as well as locally valued heritage assets and protection for biodiversity in the area.

The Trust’s Armed Forces lead, Brendan Daly, who has helped to organise the sessions, said: “We had some amazing feedback from the pilot session so we are so pleased we are able to give more veterans the opportunity to have this fantastic experience.”

“I have to admit, when I started the session, I was apprehensive. I am not the most confident in the water and my previous surgeries make it hard for me to swim. But, after that initial part of leaving my troubles on the bank and learning to trust the dog, I soon realised they were so big and strong, they had enough power to take me back to safety.

“I went through a lot of emotions that day but at the end of it I felt really proud of myself.

dogs and it helped us to bond.

“I’d just like to thank Brendan for getting me involved and for helping me personally in my recovery.”

Pete has been offering the emotional support experience with his Newfoundlands for around seven years, but has been working with the breed for over 26 years. He said: “We work with schools, the emergency services, with people with disabilities and we are now doing more of this work with veterans. It is so rewarding and the results are brilliant. The dogs love it too.

Mark, 50, who lives in Leicester, has therapy for his complex PTSD. He said: “I was discharged from the RAF in 1997 for health reasons. Since leaving I have had 13 surgeries on my knees and shoulders. A few years ago, I had a breakdown. My PTSD came to the forefront of what I had been struggling with for so long. It may sound hard to believe, but I found that when I was struggling, I could sit one of my pet rabbits on my shoulder and I could speak to them without feeling any shame. I also have a dog. Now, if I have a bad day, I know I have to get up for my pets. It gives me the drive to keep on going. I think having that bond with animals is so therapeutic and that is what made this experience so amazing. There is no doubt about it, they were such special dogs.

Rescue Dogs Help Veterans Improve Their Mental Wellbeing Through Therapeutic Open Water Swim Sessions During Summer

One of the veterans who attended the first session in the series, on Wednesday 15 June, was ex-RAF firefighter, Mark Eyres.

The emotional support swimming dogs, Storm, Sonar, Walker, Bob and Ralph, excel in the water due to their muscular build, thick double coat, webbed paws and excellent swimming skills. The dog’s owner and trainer, Hinckley-based EMAS paramedic, Pete Lewin and his team will also be in the water. Earlier this year, the large pups, Pete and his team were crowned winners of The Kennel Club Hero Dog Award competition at Crufts 2022.

Mark’s story

“The whole experience was just fantastic and I truly believe we need to be doing more of this kind of thing. I’m hoping to go down to the next sessions to be on hand to support other veterans.”

He added: “I really want to help other veterans who are going through something similar to me and who need some support for their emotional wellbeing. We hold virtual drop-in sessions on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays. Being able to talk openly about our shared experiences and having that community and comradeship is so valuable.

For more information about the sessions and other support available for veterans that is organised by Leicestershire Partnership Trust, please contact Brendan Daly on brendan.daly2@nhs.net

“The therapy was so different; when I relaxed, I did start to think and reflect on my past: the fires I had been to and people we’d sadly lost, as well as my friends from the military. When I did feel emotional, I was able to cuddle the

After the success of the pilot session, Leicestershire Partnership NHS Trust’s charity Raising Health secured £4,880 of funding from the Shire Community Grant, managed by Leicestershire County Council, to hold six more courses for those who have left the armed forces and need mental health support.

“There was an amazing bond between the veterans; we had that friendship as soon as we were in the water. I was able to be honest and say when I felt I was struggling. Everyone was so supportive and helped me when I needed it. That was very special.

Over this summer, a number of ex-service personal took part in a series of unique NHS-supported open water swimming sessions with award winning rescue dogs, to help them with post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD).

The four-hour sessions will take place at Stanton Lakes in Stoney Stanton, following a successful pilot held in September 2020. The veterans taking part will don wetsuits and take part in a series of relaxing floating and towing experiences in the water with the specially trained Newfoundland dogs, as part of the mental health support they are receiving from Leicestershire Partnership NHS Trust’s Armed Forces service.

“As part of the sessions, the veterans will join me and the dogs in the lake, with buoyancy aides, and we will go through some special holds and tows that will help them to feel emotionally supported, secure, wanted and cared for. This sort of therapy isn’t about curing the PTSD but gives people some respite for a few hours and allows them to take their mind off any negative thoughts. It works so well because you get the cold-water therapy – which helps people to focus on the present and their breathing – as well as the enjoyment of working with the dogs who give off pheromones, which helps people to relax and feel positive. Swimming with the dogs will also give them new memories for life.”

Mark is passionate about helping other veterans. He volunteers his time to help with Leicestershire Partnership NHS Trust’s Buddy2Buddy support service for ex-service personnel, which is also organised by Brendan Daly.

Biography: I have written poetry and comedy for performance, and also write short stories and longer works of fiction. Aside from stand-up, I would describe my writing style as covering a wide emotional range, moving from comedy to very touching moments. That said, I am currently writing a horror novel - a far departure from anything I have done previously! I have (to date) self-published 2 books:

I remember the American airmen; they were always in the village, usually in the pub! They were often drunk at night and always fighting, not with the village lads but with each other. They used to give us chewing gum. In my teenage years, I went to the youth club, it was held in the school rooms -we didn’t dance, boys weren’t into dancing. There was a record player and we used to play table tennis. Sometimes we’d walk to the Majestic cinema in Ratby; there were double seats at the back so a couple could sit together. It was so dark in the cinema as there were no small lights at all. Hardy’s on Castle Road used to sell ice cream-it used to be 90% ice. We didn’t have cornets; it was always a “sandwich”. Milk used to come round on a cart and when I was small, I used to go out with a jug, they would scoop the milk out of the big churn with a ladle. I remember Jones ginger beer sold in a stone jar and delivered each week.

Last month, I was invited to interview Bryan Clarke. I knew of Bryan, but had never actually met him. It turned out to be a very enjoyable morning, sitting with Bryan and his lovely dog Benji and listening to his memories. Looking at his many pen and ink pictures was a real treat; he is a very accomplished artist.

Bryan is a very accomplished gentleman; apart from his pen and ink drawings, he has, over the years, made 17 carriage clocks. A display of Bryan’s drawings with be on the History board in the library during September.

Our next meeting will be on Tuesday September 20th when we will be given an interesting talk by David Ray entitled “William Morris and England’s Silk Road”. Our meetings commence at 7:30pm and visitors are always most welcome.

I went to Kirby School on Barwell Road and I remember Mr Jarvis the headmaster, Miss Williams and Miss Hubbard, but I can’t remember anyone else. We used to get the cane if we had been naughty, even for talking in class. I’ve heard of people climbing on the roof to ring the bell but I don’t really remember doing that! In the playground, there was a long brick-built wall which separated the boys from the girls. I went home for my dinner as we lived close to the school. I don’t think the food was very good; they used to cook it in the place on Main Street (now the Scout hut). An old man used to wheel the food down to school on a barrow and one day he dropped it and it went tearing down the hill crashed into a wall and spilt all the dinner; everybody had bread and cheese that day! I recall the evacuees coming into school. I was a form captain when they brought in the evacuees and divided them up into various classes, they

When WWII came along, my father who had trained as an engineer, went to Desford aerodrome where he repaired planes that had crashed; that was a reserved occupation so he didn’t join the forces. With my dad working at Desford, the shop was closed down, partly because we couldn’t get the provisions and also because most people were growing their own vegetables. At that time, we were living at number 30, Main Street which is one of the Victorian cottages set right back from the road next to the shop. The house had a big long garden and we used to sell a lot of the produce we had grown. People used to come for lettuce and all sorts of veg. The soil was black and crumbly, you could grow anything in it! I remember Mrs Wilmer, who lived next door, and although Mrs Wilmer had electricity and gas, we didn’t, I don’t know why. The cottage was a good size with a large black range with lots of ovens. Meat was rationed and so we didn’t get much at all, however, I was friends with Mr Russell the butcher on Main Street and from time to time he would give me a slice of corned beef wrapped in paper.

Bryan’s story- I was born in 1937 and have lived in Kirby Muxloe all my life, as did my father and grandfather before me. My father had a greengrocery shop in Main Street. It was where One Stop is now. We had the right-hand side of the building, on the other side was Tom Poyner, who sold animal feed, coal and coke. Mr Poyner was a merchant for coal and coke and so used to store it in the fields at the back of the shop. My grandfather originally ran the shop; he also had a horse and cart, which he drove around the villages selling his goods and produce. Later, he had a lorry and went around the area, especially Kirby Fields because there were no shops there. Apart from green grocery, they sold bacon, sliced by the bacon slicer when the customer required it and not before. They also sold all sorts of food items; remember, there were no other shops around here at the time. Of course, this was a time before Enterprise House was built when there were just fields and someone’s garden behind a high edge next to Poyner’s and my father’s shop.

St Bartholomew’s Parish Church, Kirby Muxloe. Pen and ink drawing by Bryan Clarke

The Kirby Muxloe Local History Group

The Kirby Muxloe Local History Group generally meets 6 times a year, and membership is open to all.

There are so many memories – playing at the castle after 6o’clock when the keeper went home, sledging on Big Hill, the circus which didn’t seem to have any animals, just one strong man! The Boden ladies who ran the shop at Faith cottage. The draining of the moat in 1941, when all the fish (some very large Carp) were swimming in the stream, which was too shallow and sadly they ended up dying. Going on a boating holiday with Tony Ball and lastly the stock car.

Details of the dates of meetings, together with the topics that will be covered, are shown on the notice board in Kirby Muxloe Library and on our website, which is www.kirbymuxloelocalhistorygroup.org

were from London and a rough lot. After school, we usually went down into the fields; we used to climb trees and make dens. At conker time, we used to go up to Gullet Lane and also on Back Lane, trying to find as many conkers as we could. I’m pretty sure we went scrumping, it was just a thing that boys of my age did. We kept hens in the garden; at one time we bought 12 chickens from the market, they were 6d each. Ten of them died, the two that lived ended up being cockerels! At one time, my grandfather and father kept 200 chickens, I think they were in the back field. They sold the eggs in the shop, but that was before my time.

When the bombs dropped on the village in 1940, I was in bed and the ceiling collapsed on top of me-it was only plaster so it wasn’t too bad. My uncle, who lived on the corner of Barwell Road, said that the blast lifted up his roof, twisted it and set it down again in a different place. The lock on our back door was blown off and we never found it! I remember them removing all the railings in front of the houses and taking them for the War Effort, they were replaced by low brick walls. I also have memories of great big hollows on Blood’s Hill where some bombs had been dropped (they would have been incendiary bombs J.U.) The hollows were there until fairly recently but have now been levelled out. I think the Germans were emptying their planes as they passed overhead. Dad used to put big boards over the windows which were made up of small panes of glass. There used to be an air raid shelter in the Royal Oak carpark, built of brick with a concrete roof. It stood close by the oak trees, which are no longer there, but fairly close to the road. We used to play parachutes by jumping off the top-we didn’t use anything for a parachute, just our imagination! I remember another brick shelter outside Goodall’s shop. I don’t think I went in either of them.

Covid precautions will apply. For further details, please see our website. “Memories” meetings unfortunately remain suspended, pending our assessment of the effectiveness of our anti-virus procedures.

You should be asked to meet to discuss targets and support with the school. If your child has received support from school and is still not making progress the school may ask for an assessment of their Education, Health and Care (EHC) Needs from the Local Authority. Families, Young people, Nurseries, Colleges and other professionals can also ask for an EHC Needs assessment if a child is not making progress.

Capitalising on the government's cost of living energy measures, the email explains that you claim a £200 discount on energy bills this Autumn and a £500 Council Tax Rebate.

Finally I would like to thank you all for your continued support and remind you that should you need my help or advice, I always pride myself on making myself available to residents. Remember I am only a phone call or email away.

I fully appreciate residents will not be happy as there has already been a 6-week road closure stopping traffic travelling directly out of Ratby towards Blood Hill and the A47 However the County Council has had to agree a further 2-week extension. I understand that this is down to unexpected issues on the site. The fault lies with the developer and not County Highways officers. The alternative was to open the road and then close it again for two weeks for the works to be carried out in 3 months’ time. The best solution was to do the work now and get it over with and out the way. These closures have gone on long enough disrupting communities. I am annoyed as you are that this closure has taken so long but it is not down to LCC Highways it is down to the developer and the work they need to do. I am also appalled at the amount of abusive phone calls that the highways officer overseeing

You might have spotted the word VEGAN appearing on a few more menus in recent years. This isn’t just restaurants getting all politically correct on us but they’re waking up to the fact that there are now many more vegans than there used to be. Chefs are realising they had better cater for them otherwise the vegans spend their money elsewhere (taking their meat-eating family and friends with them!).

The main reasons people become vegan are:

The chances are you now know a vegan, like we all used to know a vegetarian. You know the long-haired, hippy one wearing sandals and eating lentils. Well, times are changing! It’s highly likely that you even know vegans without realising what their food choices are. Yes, a lot of them look like normal people!

First Proper Apple Day Since Lock Down

It promises to be fun. It will be great to be able to have a full size event after the restrictions of the Covid lockdown.

• For their health. The vegan diet generally includes less saturated fat, no cholesterol, more fibre and antioxidants compared to omnivorous diets. It also usually includes a wide range of healthy foods, such as fruit and vegetables, pulses, wholegrains, nuts and seeds. Of course maybe not for junk food vegans! Doughnuts anyone?

This village has taken far more than its far share of housing forced up us by Hinckley and Bosworth Borough Council. Reasons to object. Our Schools are full and will be from the current developments. Phone lines down in Ratby. We were made aware earlier this week that BT phone lines were down in our village. This has caused huge problems for residents, businesses and HBBC controlled accommodation such as Centurion Court. HBBC have supplied those residents with temporary mobile phones and sim cards. In order that they can contact anybody for help if needed. This was caused by a theft of copper cables and fibre optic cables at the William Davies site which was not the only one. Barlestone and Osbaston also were subject to thefts on the same night. HBBC are working hard and negotiating with BT Openreach to ensure service is restored as soon as possible but with pending strikes by BT Workers soon, this might delay restoration of services.

Chris & WorkingOzzy.foryou.

Chris has been made aware that the LibDem Administration at HBBC no longer has a tree team that looks after trees situated on land belonging to the Council. This could have a knock-on effect to private dwellings. Chris has been informed that the Borough Council are now 3 years behind, where they should be because of this failure. If you know of any trees on Borough Council land that is affecting you or are diseased and need felling then please get in touch.

She added “The transformation of the space in 2012 has enabled various groups to assist in the Foundation’s grounds during college term time and facilitated other similar interested groups, to become actively involved in an inspiring project. This has been made possible by establishing relationships with voluntary organisations; gardening clubs, Rotary groups, and the local community through a shared desire to help and empower others; benefitting both the young people and the volunteering groups involved”.

As part of the approval, conditions will be imposed on the construction to reduce any disturbances for residents, as well as pedestrians, drivers and cyclists who use Hinckley Road.

Grow With Us – Shuttlewood Clarke Foundation’s Thriving Community Allotment Project Marks A Ten-Year Milestone!

Located on Hinckley Road in Leicester Forest East, the new development will sit on the site of the current Kathleen Rutland Home, which currently accommodates 42 older residents and a low vision clinic, operated by the charity Vista. In addition to 30 more spaces at the care home, the new development will replace the old structure, which is considered to be “outdated and of a visually poor design.”

Councillor Nick Chapman, Vice Chair of Blaby District Council’s Planning Committee, said: “We are pleased to have approved this important development. Vista are a charity who make a hugely positive difference to the lives of many people, both in the district and across the county. Their commitment to modernising the old Kathleen Rutland Home with a new, high-quality structure highlights their support in our local communities. I look forward to seeing the development progress in the coming months and years.”

saves a considerable amount of time but does require learning to operate the machines correctly. Most if not all hand knitting patterns can be worked up on a machine, either identically or in a similar design, but some are simpler to do by hand, whilst others are easier on a machine. Hand knitting patterns are designed to "flip" the fabric on every row so that the knitter consistently uses the dominant hand. However, machine knitting is consistently knit with the fabric facing the same way. Flat bed machines knit back and forth and circular machines knit continuously in the Leicestershireround.

Manager, said: "It is important to make a Will to ensure that your money and possessions are distributed according to your wishes. Leaving a gift in your Will is also a brilliant way of supporting the causes you care about. It costs you nothing today, but your gift will help to secure the future of your chosen charity. Every year, LOROS must raise £6 million and gifts and Wills make up a large part of this. Decisions made by people making their Will have helped to ensure that we can continue to provide vital services to terminally ill people. Please consider leaving a gift to LOROS in your Will. Every gift, no matter how large or small, makes a real difference to our patients, their families and carers."

A knitting machine is a device used to create knitted fabrics in a semi or fully automated fashion. There are numerous types of knitting machines, ranging from simple spool or board templates with no moving parts to highly complex mechanisms controlled by electronics. All, however, produce various types of knitted fabrics, usually either flat or tubular, and of varying degrees of complexity. Pattern stitches can be selected by hand manipulation of the needles, push buttons and dials, mechanical punch cards, or electronic pattern reading devices and computers.

Comparison of machine knitting to hand knitting The fabric produced using a knitting machine is of a more even texture than flat knitting, hand-knitted fabric, which is particularly noticeable on large areas of plain stockinet stitch, and can be an advantage. Some stitch patterns (e.g., tuck stitches) are much easier to produce with a knitting machine. Others (e.g. garter stitch) can also be produced with machine knitting, but can take a little longer; however, this is still much faster than hand knitting. The standard gauge 200-needle machine can knit the finest yarns up to a good sport-weight (4ply UK), while the heavier yarns knit better on a mid-gauge or bulky knitting

Perhaps you have a knitting machine in your ‘loft' and feel that it needs to be used again. This is an opportunity to dig it out and regain your skills from many years ago. Or perhaps it is a new hobby that you wish to explore; we can give advice about different types of machine and try the clubs machines before you buy.
