Warning over suspected bank card phone scam

PEOPLE are being warned to beware of a phone scam designed to trick them into giving out confidential bank card details and account information.

Leicester City Council’s Trading Standards officers are warning residents to be on their guard following a report from a member of the public who was targeted in a suspected scam earlier this week.

The man received a phone call from someone claiming to be a police officer from Spinney Hill police station, who had arrested a person trying to use a cloned credit card in the man’s name. The caller asked the man to check that he had still got his bank card, which he had.

He was then told to contact his bank by ringing the telephone number on the back of the card. The phone then went quiet - giving the effect of the caller having hung up when he was really still on the line. The scam works when the unsuspecting victim attempts to ring the bank but really ends up speaking to the original caller, who then asks for confidential bank details, such as security details, card details and even the pin number.

In this instance, the intended victim didn’t ring the bank - he repeatedly dialled 1471 to try to establish the caller’s identity, only to be met with verbal abuse.

Suspecting it to be a scam he then reported the incident to the police. Now Trading Standards officers are warning other people to be on their guard against such potential scams. Continued on page 4

Local Air Training Corps Squadron, 2070 (Glenfield) Squadron Cadets Cadets Field Craft Weekend In June, the local Air Training Corps Squadron, 2070 (Glenfield) Squadron Cadets took part in a Field Craft weekend at John Lee’s Wood Scout Campsite, which offers a forest environment to carry out elements of fieldcraft activities.

For a lot of the Cadets this was their first taste of camping with the Squadron and it gave them a chance to learn a number of skills that they will put to use for their Duke of Edinburgh Award and future Adventure Training with the Squadron.

Over the two days training was carried out in camp craft, observation skills, camouflage and concealment, duties of a sentry, and an orders group training experience.

As well as Sgt ATC Gibson, Sgt ATC Elton and CI Clarke taking the lead in the instruction and organization of the weekend, in addition there were three Students who are currently at University awaiting their commissions representing the Navy, Army and RAF. Good to see ex Cadet Lear. who is currently studying his degree, before being commissioned in the RAF Engineering Branch.

Over the weekend the cadets, tested their technical skills in all the elements of training, as well as pushing themselves out of their comfort zones.

Of which 2070 Squadron won the following Awards and Trophies, for 2012 season: • Best overall Sporting Squadron • Best Squadron at Training and Proficiency • The Committee Shoot Trophy • The Auster Cup – Best Overall Squadron of the whole South and East Midlands Wing An excellent Year improving from last year’s performance well done to Cadets who have represented the Squadron in all events and competitions throughout the season. The Challenge now is to maintain the high standard that we have set ourselves.

Bronze National Navigation Award Scheme On 15th and 16th June. Cadets who are currently doing their First Class Training embarked on a two day Bronze National Navigation Award Training and Assessment. The weather was good and Cadets were all in good spirits, as they undertook the various navigational and walking challenges, that the route and terrain gave them.

Wing Field Day 2013 South and East Midlands Wing again hosted their annual Wing Field Day at RAF Wittering. Wing Field Day consists of competitions in first aid, drill, leadership, shooting, modeling, aircraft recognition and media communications. As always Cadets were keen to represent the Squadron and there was a team in all the competitions.

Cadets agreed that this two days course was a great introduction to expedition and adventure training, giving them basic instruction and allowing them to practice the theories for themselves. All the cadets were successful and will now gain a nationally recognized award and additionally gain experience and confidence before starting the Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme

Congratulations to the GCSE class of 2013 Groby Community College is pleased to announce a strong set of GCSE results from the class of 2013.

The college has increased the number of good GCSE passes for the 3rd year running to 96% 5A*- C in 2013 (up 2% from 2012). The 5A*- C with English and Maths measure is slightly lower than in 2012 at 60% although this mirrors the national picture.

Overall results per student are higher with the capped point score rising meaning that overall the best 8 GCSEs for each student are of a better quality. This means that every student, whatever their ability or background, is achieving really well.

There are a number of individual successes including: • Callum Tebbatt with 13 As and A*s • Phoebe Coleman with 12 As and A*s • Antony Bennett with 11 As and A*s The college has bucked the national trend for GCSE Science with 71% of the current Year 10 achieving A*- C at the end of the first year. Robert Coles, Principal said that he ’was thrilled for the students and staff who have worked incredibly hard to get these results against a backdrop of changes and shifting grade boundaries. Many of the students put in hours of extra work at college and at home to achieve these results and deserve the success.’

Superstar A Level students achieve highest ever results 2013 A huge congratulations goes out to the A Level class of 2013 who have achieved record results this summer. These are well deserved results for a year group who have worked extremely hard over the last two years to secure their places at university, college or employment.

• 36% of all A Levels are graded at A and A* (14% increase from 2012).

• 64% of all A Levels are graded at A* to B. This is the main measure of attainment that is used to judge the college and shows an increase of 18% from 2012.

• 83% of all grades were awarded at A*- C (increase from 77% in 2012).

• 100% A* to E It is impossible to mention all students and we apologise for only listing some of the top performers. All students completing A Levels do extremely well as the qualifications are challenging and hard to achieve. Leicester City Council’s Trading Standards manager Ronald Ruddock said: “The scam works by the criminal caller staying on the line and then answering the new call, tricking the victim into believing they are on a call to their bank.

“The fraudster will then either ask the person for their pin number, or ask them to key their pin into their telephone keypad, before saying that the bank will be sending a courier to collect the card.

“Needless to say the courier will be part of the scam with the criminals ending up with both the credit card and pin number.

“This is a variation on the ‘courier scam’, where residents are told that banks or building societies will collect bank cards, and residents should remain suspicious of any call that requests personal banking information.

“Criminals are continuing to become highly sophisticated in their attempts to trick consumers into giving this information away. The quick thinking of the potential victim in this instance may well have saved him a lot of money.”

Banks and building societies do not send couriers to pick up bank cards, nor will they ever ask customers for their pin numbers.

People should never give out pin numbers or the security code off the back of their cards in these circumstances.

Winstanley Wizards Table Tennis Club We offer table tennis for everyone from beginners to experienced players with instruction and coaching offered in a friendly and lively atmosphere. Local Police Report...

We have recently seen an increase in reports of vehicles being broken into in the early hours of the morning, particularly in the Ratby area. We would advise vehicle owners to check that they have not left property on show and to remove any valuables from their vehicle, as well as ensuring that your vehicle is locked and secured. This also relates to Bicycles being locked and secured with an appropriate lock when left at home, in a public place or on the street.

There have also been a few incidents reported of garden sheds being broken into across the beat with property being taken. We are advising members of the public to make sure their sheds are locked and secured with suitable padlocks which will prevent persons forcing entry inside.

In August there was a Robbery at Cathy Stephens Jewellery in Groby. Three males entered the store with a baseball bat and crow bar. The males got away with a large haul of jewellery and fled the scene in a Black Audi Estate. Officers are looking for information and so any witnesses are asked to contact Detective Constable Tunnicliffe on 101 or Crimestoppers, which is anonymous, on 0800 555 111.

Following a credible threat received by Chris and Ozzy from a member of a the Travelling Community regarding a possible incursion locally over the recent Bank Holiday, Chris moved swiftly to contact local landowners and Parish Councils to secure any entrance to land that they may own or rent. The two most likely were the two pieces of land up for sale on Groby Rd and Sacheverell Way. Fully supported by Ozzy, Chris contacted the owners and agents to inform them of this threat and they then arranged to place large tree trunks and boulders at the field entrances.

Next on the list was Ferndale Park which was placed on lockdown and notices posted on site. This threat arose because of the recent permission given in Earl Shilton for a 10 pitch site. Residents there have formed an action group to fight this permission with a judicial review which will delay the site by a possible year. This review is on the grounds of highway safety and development on flood plain. Whilst we recognize the need for official sites and an equal distribution across the Borough, we will move swiftly to stop unlawful incursions in our

Police and H.B.B.C. promoting responsible dog ownership.

Following an increase in dog on dog attacks in the Borough, Leicestershire police and Hinckley and Bosworth Borough Council are working together to educate residents with regard to responsible dog ownership. The scheme involves both Police officers and officers of HBBC taking part in organized walks in local parks where they speak to dog owners and hand out leaflets.

Officers of the Council will also be on hand to issue fixed penalty notices should the need arise. The responsible dog ownership scheme will be promoting 1. Training dogs in basic obedience to ensure they are under control at all times.

Whilst we are keen to see dogs getting regular exercise on our parks, there have been complaints regarding these issues and excited dogs jumping up residents. This initiative has been trialled in Queens Park in Hinckley and we have now requested that the scheme be rolled out across the Borough and especially Ferndale Park.

Children in care choir to record song Almost 20 youngsters are about to taste the glamorous pop star life by stepping into the recording studio and shooting a music video.

Sir David Attenborough backs Charnwood Forest lottery bid Sir David Attenborough has offered his support to a funding bid aimed at enhancing the Charnwood Forest. Leicestershire County Council and its partners have applied for £2.4m from the Heritage Lottery Fund to help support projects that aim to boost and preserve the unique landscape of the area.

‘Beacon Voices’ is a choir made up of children in care and next week, they're meeting a sound engineer to record their version of Gary Barlow and Andrew Lloyd Webber's hit 'Sing' which was created for the Queen's diamond jubilee.

The following day, the ensemble - who are aged between nine and 18 - will also be popping to Beacon Hill and Beamanor Hall to film a video for the track which will be available online in the autumn.

Set up earlier last year by Leicestershire County Council, the choir is thought to be the only one of its kind in the country and now has 20 members.

Sixteen-year-old Chloe Cunningham is a member of Beacon Voices and said: "I am really proud to be a part of Beacon Voices, and I can't wait until we all record the video.

"It will be so much fun and will definitely bring us closer together. It's great how we've all got this opportunity and I can't wait to see the end result."

Ivan Ould, Leicestershire County Council cabinet member for children and young people, said: "Beacon Voices is part of a wide range of support we provide to the young people in our care.

"By shining a spotlight on their talents and developing musical skills, the choir aims to help boost the young people's confidence and provides an opportunity to express themselves.

"As their 'corporate' parent, it's our responsibility to do the kinds of things we would for our own children. By offering activities such as this, we strive to help them achieve, fulfil their potential, as well as boost their confidence and self esteem."

In a letter of support to lottery bosses, the much loved naturalist described the Charnwood Forest as a “precious lung for those living in Leicester and the other towns and villages that lie around it.” He also said that his visits to the forest were: “the highlights of my Leicester boyhood.”

Pam Posnett, Leicestershire County Council Cabinet Member for Environment, said: “We are really thrilled that Sir David, along with more than 600 members of the public who took time to fill in a survey about the Charnwood Forest, has backed our bid.

“The Charnwood Forest is a wonderful, unique area with rich geological, historical and environmental importance.

“We really hope our bid is successful, enabling us to help enhance this beautiful and special landscape which is much loved by Leicestershire people.”

The bid, and Sir David’s letter, were submitted at the end of May. Heritage Lottery Fund officers were in the area earlier this month, visiting key sites and finding out more about the details of the bid. The decision on first round funding bid will be made in late October. If successful, the money will support 17 projects which will be delivered by a mixture of organisations and volunteers.

Projects which would benefit from a lottery grant include: • A new heritage centre to be run by the Mountsorrel Railway Project • A conservation volunteer group specifically for the Charnwood Forest • The recording of Victorian gardens

These cuts will have a direct impact on the services that we currently run and it is vitally important that elected members receive the public’s feedback. I feel this is so important which is why I have repeated it in this month’s article. I have been advised that as a result of my lobbying senior members of the County Council will review my request and make a decision on the 3rd September.

No one can say that I am not persistent. I have been in liaison with both Severn Trent and their contractor who did the original repair, however I requested they do whatever it takes to cure this problem for local residents. I have to say the contractor’s supervisor has been excellent. He has had camera’s put down the length of the sewers again. They have discovered not one but a total of 4 collapses in the sewer pipe running down the street.

Unfortunately due to this the work has had to be extended, with a further emergency road closure put in place. I fully appreciate residents have had to put up with a road closure for almost 2-3 weeks but please be assured it’s for the residents benefit this work is being completed.

We will have to look at all of our services and consider ways to reduce spending on them, run them differently and efficiently or stop delivering some all together, as well as identify further efficiency savings.

Grass Cutting I am far from happy with the state of the grass cutting in Ratby and I have contacted the clerk of work at County Hall asking them to revisit and inspect the work.

Therefore, Leicestershire County Council wants the public to help it decide its priorities, in the face of reducing Government grant and rising demand for services. A skate park session is looking for DJs to play during its Friday night gathering at Enderby Leisure Centre.

The Wheels Project, a mobile skate park session for skateboards, rollerblades, scooters and BMX, launched at the end of May 2013 with guest appearances and demos from pro freestyle BMX riders Keelan Phillips, Matt Armstrong and skateboarder Mike Simons.

The weekly Friday night session is keen to get volunteer DJs involved.

Claire Jarvis, Sports & Recreation Development Officer at Blaby District Council, said: “This is a great opportunity for DJs who are starting up or looking for more exposure, giving them the chance to play music to a larger audience than they may be familiar with.”

The sessions at the leisure centre run every Friday, 7.30pm for 8-13 year olds and 8.45pm for 14+, costing £2 a session. Anyone under the age of 16 must have consent to take part.

Glenfield U3A, News Update...

During August membership of the Glenfield branch of the U3A reached 200.

A volunteer to co-ordinate the second Walking Group came forward and several members had their first walk in Martinshaw Woods and the Ratby Burroughs on a fine weather day and finished off the walk with lunch at the Plough P.H. in Ratby. Walking Group 2 meets at 10.30am on the third Wednesday of the month.

Another new group – Pilates - starts at 9.20am on Tuesday 10th September. The Pilates group will meet at the Sports Pavilion, Gynsill Lane, Glenfield on the 2nd and 4th Tuesdays of each month from 9.20 - 10.30am. Rachel Clarke, a qualified Pilates teacher will be taking the group and each session will cost £4.

Most of the groups have continued throughout the summer months apart from Computing which starts a new 6 week session in September. The computing sessions take place in Glenfield Library at 2 pm on the second and fourth Mondays of the month.

Groups are small, usually 6 members and are tutor led with at least two "helpers", so there is plenty of support. Sessions are themed, but designed to be flexible and respond to what members want. Some people have a laptop or tablet that they bring with them but if you do not have a laptop then the U3A has some that we lend out for the duration of the course so that people can have a go at using the laptop at home or go along to the library to get internet access if they don’t have it at home.

The Table Tennis group started on 20th June at Beaumont leys, Leicester Leys Leisure Centre and takes place on the 1st and 3rd Thursday of the month at 2pm. The cost is £3.

The indoor bowls group were forced to take a summer holiday whilst St Peter’s Church Centre was closed for annual maintenance but are back there now every Friday afternoon at 2pm and is as popular as ever.

Change too for the well-established history group in September, the group has outgrown the current venue at the Scout hall and are moving to the new Sports Pavilion on Gynsill Lane. On 12th September there will be a talk about the National Trusts acquisition of Stoneywell an Arts & Crafts cottage near Ulverscroft.

The strawberry and cream tea at the August monthly meeting was another success, over 70 members enjoyed the afternoon.

A new catering team has been formed from group volunteers for future events.

Due to the success of the 60's night in May 60's Sound have been booked again for a repeat night of live music from the 60's on Saturday 2nd November – tickets £10 (supper included). Open to non-members. The event will be held at St Peter's Church Centre.

The Memorial Hall has provisionally been booked as the venue as St Peter’s Church Hall is unavailable but this may change if a more suitable venue can be found for the choir to perform.

On Tuesday 7th Jan 2014 there will be a New Year Luncheon at St Peter's Church Centre.

Bookings are being taken from stallholders for next year’s U3A Craft Fair to be held on Saturday 29th March 2014 at St Peter's Church Hall.

Join East Midlands Hospice for a Pyjama Party East Midlands mums, daughters, sisters and females alike need to don their PJs, grab a teddy and stroll six miles around the streets of Loughborough.

Rainbows Hospice for Children and Young People has launched its Moonlight Walk, which will take place on Saturday 12 October.

Run with Team Red Cross in London Marathon 2014

The six mile sponsored walk starts at Charnwood Indoor Bowls at 10pm.

Ladies will walk around Loughborough town centre before finishing back at the bowls club. In true pyjama party style, ladies taking on the moonlight adventure will be treated to a midnight feast after the walk at a celebration party.

All money raised at the event will go to the hospice, which provides care and support for children and young people in the East Midlands with life-limited illnesses. Raising £35 could fund a music therapy session, £50 could help fund part of our emergency pharmacy bill for a month and £250 would pay for a day at Rainbows for a child with complex needs.

Katie Baxter, community and events manager at Rainbows Hospice for Children and Young People, said: “We want as many Leicestershire ladies as possible to join us for this huge pyjama party. By taking part in this event, you will not only be having fun with the girls, you will also be keeping fit and raising funds for Rainbows.

“Rainbows is the only hospice in the East Midlands that delivers support to children and young people with life-limited illnesses. Our team of medical professionals and specialists help relieve symptoms; improve quality of life; and care for children until the end, as well as supporting parents and siblings through their bereavement.

“So, tell all of your girlie friends and relatives grab your teddies and come and join us for what promises to be a fun evening.”

Apply online and on time for school places Parents are urged to look out for school place application packs which will be landing on doormats across Leicestershire. From September, around 12,500 parents will receive forms for children who transfer to secondary school in the autumn term 2014.

Leicestershire County Council is reminding parents that moving to the next school is not automatic and encouraging them to apply before the 31st October closing date. The transfer process is the same for a local authority school or a recently converted academy.

If parents apply late - even if they live next door to the school - their child is unlikely to get a place. Anyone expressing a preference for a non-catchment school is urged to also apply for a place at their child’s catchment school.

Lady Drivers in the hot seat!

The Fire Fighters Charity and British Red Cross are once again giving women throughout the country the unique opportunity to drive weird and wonderful vehicles at the Leicestershire annual Ladies Driving Challenge!

On 13 October 2013, The Fire Fighters Charity and British Red Cross will visit Bruntingthorpe Proving Ground, Near Lutterworth, Leicestershire, to give women the chance to drive a variety of large and unusual vehicles in the ‘Ladies Driving Challenge’. Participants will be able to try their hand at manoeuvring a range of different vehicles such as fire engines, steam engines, trucks, combine harvesters and tractors, all kindly donated by local organisations.

Mary Morgan, Senior Community Fundraiser at British Red Cross said, “The Ladies Driving Challenge promises to be an exciting day, with the chance to operate a fantastic collection of vehicles often associated with male drivers. Other types of driving events can be uncomfortably competitive with an emphasis on speed, and this has been known to put off some women. The Women-only Challenge is much more relaxed with the focus on handling vehicles with skill and enjoying new experiences, as well as raising money for a good cause. The event is always very popular and we expect places to fill early so we urge participants to register as early as possible and guarantee their place.”

The challenge is to drive a wide variety of weird and wonderful vehicles! Each Ladies Driving Challenge is unique, but at any given event you can look forward to driving at least four or five different types of vehicle. Expert tuition throughout ensures you enjoy the special day to the full.

All women over the age of 17 with a full driving licence are welcome to join in the fun during either the morning or afternoon sessions. Registration costs £10 and entrants are asked to raise a minimum of £90 in sponsorship. All proceeds from the event will be split evenly between The Fire Fighters Charity and British Red Cross.

Laura Harden, Regional Fundraising Officer at The Fire Fighters Charity explained, “Behind the fun, there is a very serious message that we are supporting those heroic fire fighters who risk their lives for us. When they run into a burning building, there is always the very real risk of serious injury, and when the worst happens not only fire fighters suffer, but also their families. The Fire Fighters Charity helps support injured fire fighters, both physically and emotionally, enabling them to return to work faster. Unbelievably, the Charity receives no government funding and relies entirely from beneficiary and public donations”.

The annual event last year raised around £13,000 to support both The Fire Fighters Charity - the official organisation which exists for fire fighters during their times of need and assists thousands of injured individuals every year by providing pioneering treatment and support services and British Red Cross who supported over 40,000 people in the local area in 2012 including valued support to the Fire and Rescue services by way of their Fire and Emergency Support Service.

Conjunctivitis is a common condition that occurs when the conjunctiva (a thin layer of cells covering the front of your eyes) becomes inflamed. The three most common causes of this inflammation are: infection (infective conjunctivitis), an allergic reaction (allergic conjunctivitis) and something irritating the conjunctiva, such as a loose eyelash (irritant conjunctivitis) Allergic Conjunctivitis: - This can be seasonal such as a symptom of hay fever or can be caused by continual exposure to something the person is allergic to. Symptoms of allergic conjunctivitis include a clear watery discharge, a generalised/diffused redness of the eye and itchiness of the eyes. Allergic conjunctivitis affects both eyes simultaneously.

To treat this condition an antihistamine tablet can be taken, or if symptoms are persistent eye drops containing sodium cromoglicate can also be used.

Infective Conjunctivitis: - This is caused mainly by coming in to contact with someone who already has the infection. It is therefore very important to wash your hands thoroughly after coming into contact with anyone who has infective conjunctivitis and don't share pillows or towels with them.

There are 2 types of this conjunctivitis, Bacterial and Viral. The symptoms of both these conditions are similar which include, a burning sensation and a feeling of grit in your eyes.

Bacterial conjunctivitis usually has an associated sticky discharge from the eye and starts off in one eye and moves to the other.

Viral conjunctivitis usually has a clear runny discharge and can affect both eyes together.

Cough and cold symptoms can also be associated with viral conjunctivitis. Both these conditions are self-limiting i.e. will go away on their own if left for a week or so, however you can buy treatments to speed up the healing process. The drug of choice in these

conditions is Chloramphenicol which comes under many brands. It is available as an eye drop or an ointment. It will not do much for a viral infection but may be considered appropriate to prevent a secondary bacterial infection.

Irritant conjunctivitis: - Irritant conjunctivitis can have a wide range of potential causes. Some common causes include, chlorinated water used in swimming baths, shampoo, a stray eyelash rubbing against the conjunctiva, smoke or fumes. The treatment for this type of conjunctivitis is simple. Firstly identify, then stay away from the irritant causing the problem.

Another eye condition that does not need a visit to your GP is subconjunctival haemorrhage. This rather long name means a burst capillary (blood vessel) in the eye.

Straining or coughing can sometimes cause a blood vessel to burst on the eye surface, causing a bright red blotch. It can also be caused if you u have high blood pressure. It should not be painful and vision should not be affected. It may look alarming but it is harmless. There is no treatment as the blood cannot be washed out. It should clear up on its own after a few weeks. If you would like more advice pop in to speak to our highly trained pharmacists.

With all eye conditions if you have any of the symptoms below then you should see your GP or Optician: • Pain in the eye: An actual pain which is different to a general soreness, grittiness or itchiness.

• Disturbance of vision: Problems in focusing or vision, different to blurriness due to a watery eye.

• Eye conditions accompanied with other symptoms such as headaches, nausea and vomiting.

• Recurrent subconjunctival haemorrhage • Photophobia: Sensitivity to light.

• Redness localised to one area of the eye surface.

• Pupils of abnormal shape or uneven pupils • Pupils reacting unevenly to light.

As we get older the risks of eye disease increase so it is important to make lifestyle changes and visit the optician regularly.

In order to maintain good eye health recommendations state to have an eye test every 2 years. Having an eye test won’t only tell you if you need glasses or a change of prescription, it’s also an important eye health check. It can spot many general health problems and early signs of eye conditions before you're aware of any symptoms – many of which can be treated if found early enough.

A few lifestyle changes can also help maintain good eye health. These include: eating well, staying a healthy weight, quitting smoking, sleeping well, using good lighting, wearing sunglasses and regular exercise.

Leicestershire letting agents and landlords all under one roof An innovative new website which aims to improve the standard of privately rented properties in Leicestershire has been launched. The Homefinder scheme www.homefinder.uk.com - has been set up for landlords and letting agents in the county, offering support and advice and providing a range of services all under one roof.

Landlords and letting agents can advertise their properties for free, and at the same time keep up-to-date with current legislation, have access to documents, videos and toolkits to help manage properties, information on available grants and loans, and free training opportunities.

There are already over 70 letting agents signed up and 500 properties on the website, from shared houses to executive homes. It can be viewed in multiple languages, and features include a housing benefit calculator and an online referral form for customers seeking support to remain in their current home or move to an alternative one.

Blaby District Council has led on the development of the scheme, which had the original aim of increasing access to privately rented properties across Leicester and Leicestershire. Councillor Maggie Wright, portfolio holder for Community Services, said: “The launch of Homefinder is going to benefit both tenants and landlords, ensuring there is quality housing available in the district. It is extremely promising to see the amount of landlords and letting agents already on board and I hope to see this fantastic scheme roll out further across the county and beyond.”

National Landlords Association (NLA), Association of Residential Letting Agents (ARLA), Decent and Safe Homes (DASH), Leicester Landlords Association (LLA), Chartered Institute of Housing (CIH) and Chartered Institute of Environmental Health (CIEH) are all supporting the Homefinder scheme.

Linda Selvey, Landlord Accreditation Manager at DASH, said: “We are really pleased that there will be a place where tenants can go to look for properties belonging specifically to accredited landlords”.

“This website will help tenants have confidence that the property they rent is of a good standard, is being responsibly managed and more importantly that the landlord belongs to a recognised scheme like DASH landlord Accreditation. We hope to work in partnership with Blaby District Council to develop the website across the East Midlands giving more landlords and tenants this excellent opportunity.”

Alongside the launch of the Homefinder website, a Landlord Local Authority Working Group has been set up. Zahir Mamujee from MCL Property, and one of the working group members, said: “We are very excited at the launch of this site. Not only is it a great portal to advertise properties throughout Leicester and Leicestershire, but a great example of how the private rented sector and local authorities throughout the shire are working together to reduce the stigma associated with Housing Benefit tenants and provide good quality accommodation.”
