Your Chance To Get Involved With The Biggest Youth Team Football Event In NW Leicestershire The Raven 7’s Tournament 2nd & 3rd July 2016 On Saturday 2nd & Sunday 3rd July we are holding a youth football event at Coalville Town Football Club, Owen Street, Coalville. This event has doubled in size from 2014 and will see 1200 young players from across Leicestershire and beyond compete in excess of 250 mini soccer matches, with ages from under 7’s up to and including Under 12’s, all in one weekend with hundreds more Managers/Coaches / family members/ friends all watching the event.

Well in excess of 3500 people will attend the weekend’s football and on top of this the publicity on the day will be frequently mentioned through our social media and Coalville Town FC website, which will add to the exposure. It’s a great opportunity to promote your business, a positive tournament affiliated with Leicestershire County FA which involves both boys and girls team’s is something which you will be proud to be part of.

The 40 students tackled gorge walking, kayaking, abseiling, raft building and paddle boarding in all weathers, including wind, rain and hail storms.

Staff member Cheryl Miles said: “We had to deal with some adverse conditions but the weather didn’t spoil it; it just made the whole thing more challenging. The students battled through brilliantly.”

The week’s activities encouraged students to develop their team building, communication and organisational skills.

Students were kept so busy that some fell asleep before ‘lights out’ and even chose not to book out their mobile phones in the evening.

The sponsorship packages on offer are as follows: £50 for a ¼ page event programme advert, every car will have a fee to pay for parking and will receive the programme as part of the payment.

We have a print run of 800 programmes and will also place a copy of the programme on our website to enable you to download this will increase the amount of people who will see your advert supporting ‘youth football’.

Beaumanor World War 2 “Y” Listeners The Loughborough Library Local Studies Volunteers are planning a display highlighting the work carried out by the Y-Listeners at Beaumanor Hall during World War II. The display is planned for February/March 2017 in the Public Library in Granby Street, Loughborough.

Beaumanor Hall was requisitioned by the War Office in 1940 and set up as a "Y" Station. The "Y" (wireless) Stations were British Signals Intelligence collection sites established during World War II. The Y-Listeners collected traffic (signals) that was then passed on for processing, to the

Government Code and Cypher School at Bletchley Park.

Secrecy was once of the utmost importance but nowadays the true history of the important role of the Listeners and the code breakers is coming to light. It has been calculated that their work shortened the War by some two years. We are interested in hearing of personal experiences, anecdotes and memories that anyone associated with the Y-Listening Service would be willing to share. Be assured that this project has the full approval of the representatives of Beaumanor Hall.

A Revolution In History A two-day history event gave students from Ibstock Community College a new perspective on the industrial revolution, by bringing them together with local experts.

The exhibition, which was open to the public, united students and historians for a closer look at the impact of the industrial revolution on local people.

Students were able to find out more about the era and the exhibits by talking to local experts.

A display of students’ own work on the topic was also on view to visitors.

History teacher Kevin Norman said: “The event, which this year focused on the theme of trade and industry, is a showcase for Year 9 students to display their work and to show people what they have been working on in lessons.”

“It is also a valuable opportunity for students to talk to local experts about the impact of the industrial revolution on the local area.”

The exhibition was held at the college on the first day, before moving to The Palace in the centre of Ibstock for the final day.

This was the third year that Ibstock Community College and Ibstock Historical Society had organised and run the event together.

Thurcaston And Cropston Open Gardens 2016 - 10th Anniversary

This challenged our students to design and make a healthy snack.

Students had to consider: Four lucky students from Ibstock Community College were chosen to take part in a live link-up with astronaut Tim Peake at the National Space Centre.

Caitlin Abbott, Josh Rudkin, Jack Coleman and Caitlin Walters won a college competition to visit the Space Centre with Ibstock vice principal, Lee Sheldon, who is a lead educator for the National Space Academy.

The four were chosen by Mr Sheldon for the quality of their answers when asked to give a reason for wishing to go on the trip and to suggest a question for Tim Peake.

During their visit, they witnessed a seven-minute live link-up with Tim Peake from the International Space Station (ISS). There was also a Skype interview with Frank

de Winne, Head of the European Astronaut Centre, which included more details of life on the ISS. The students were given free access to the National Space Centre where they got the chance to train in the astronaut zone, which included health checks, inertia training and reaction timing, and to pretend to be on a space mission.

Mr Sheldon said: “The students had a great time. It was incredible to be part of the live link-up with Tim Peake. It’s just a shame that it was for such a short time. He’s a busy man!”

The 10th Open Gardens event in the villages of Thurcaston and Cropston will take place this summer on the weekend of 25th and 26th June.

Gardens will be open from 2pm – 6pm on both days; tickets will be £4 each (accompanied children and wheelchair users free) and will be valid for both days. They can be purchased on the day from any of the Open Gardens. Look for the fuchsia coloured balloons!

All money raised from the event will go to LOROS and the villages’ new Good Neighbour Scheme.

(i) the scientific processes involved in its production (ii) its nutritional content (iii) the target audience for the product (iv) the product name, packaging and consumer information requirements The students organised themselves into groups but with each person inventing their own snack, directing it at a target group, such as gluten intolerant people, vegetarians, or elderly people. A tasting session followed which narrowed the entries to one per group. This final idea was then developed to improve: flavour, texture and suitability for the target group. The groups also developed their scientific knowledge of how to test their product for nutrients, fat content, water content and carbohydrates.

Finally packaging for each final product was designed and labelled in accordance with current regulations.

From all the products developed 4 were chosen to be Castle Rock High School’s entries.

We hope to have a number of different gardens for you to visit across the two villages, some who have taken part in the event for most of those 10 years! Some are large, some small, some immaculate, some very much less so! But all for you to enjoy.

It is often said how welcoming our Gardeners are and they would love you to come and see all their hard work and help them raise money for a great cause.

3M Young Innovators Challenge

On Friday 29th. April, eight very nervous students, made their snacks again and were taken over to 3M’s offices in Loughborough.

There they presented their snack to a panel of judges.

Students Bring Garden To Life A corner of Ibstock Community Garden is being transformed by students from Ibstock Community College.

The students have spent time digging the plot and researching potential crops, before planting herbs, salad vegetables and strawberry plants. They spend two hours at the garden every fortnight.

Their next plan is to brighten up the plot with flowering plants.

Teacher Rachel Grimadell, who is overseeing the garden project, said: “These students are being given the opportunity to develop some new skills and to do something for the community at the same time. They are learning not just about gardening but important life skills like leadership and decision making. All the students are very enthusiastic and wanted to grow something that would benefit others. That is why they chose crops which they will be able to give away at the end of the growing season.”

Plants have been donated by Beesley’s Garden Centre at Ravenstone and Jessica Mary Flowers of Market Harborough.

A transformation took place, our nervous students, pulled confidence from seemingly nowhere and made their presentations, faultlessly.

Then it was all smiles and all eight students were pleased and proud of what they had achieved. It was a delight to be a part of.

One of the judges purposely came to say, that there were in access of 50 entries all of a high calibre. She didn’t know whether any of our entries would be put forward to the finals but wanted us to know that they all presented themselves extremely well, had very good knowledge of their product and had clearly done all the work themselves. She congratulated us on our behaviour and desire to achieve.

Fingers crossed – let’s hope they get through!

Disability Charity Celebrates 30 Years Of Enriching Lives

Emily Was Looking For Something That Was Never Lost When Emily Owen was 16 she underwent surgery to remove a brain tumour.

Three days later, as she turned 17, she was fighting for her life in the hospital’s intensive care unit.

She was diagnosed with Neurofibromatosis Type 2 (NF2) and as a result of the condition and surgery over the years, she lost her hearing, her balance has been impaired, and she has damage to her facial nerve.

A gifted musician and sports’ lover, Emily didn’t feel like Emily any more.

She couldn’t run.

She had a wonky smile.

She couldn’t play the flute.

Enrych, previously Ryder Cheshire Volunteers, is celebrating three decades of tackling the social isolation and low self-esteem often experienced by people with a disability.

Set up by husband and wife Leonard Cheshire and Sue Ryder in 1986, the charity has a ‘rych’ heritage.

“By the time they married, each had established charities of their own, but went on to co-found Ryder-Cheshire Volunteers to provide opportunities for adults with a disability to reach their potential through two of life’s greatest pleasures, leisure and learning. They were keen to ensure that disability was no barrier to opportunity,” said Enrych Branch Manager Colin Edis.

Many will know that Leonard Cheshire and Sue Ryder had a strong connection with Leicestershire and in fact owned Staunton Harold Hall and rescued it from demolition to become a Cheshire Home. In 1980 the Home moved to purpose built premises at Netherseal and the Hall was converted to a Sue Ryder Hospice from where also Ryder Cheshire Volunteers worked out of. Ryder Cheshire and the Sue Ryder Hospice ceased to use the premises in 2002.

From 2011, the charity was rebranded as Enrych, carrying forward the initials of its visionary founders in the new name. Enrych is honoured to have comedian Graeme Garden OBE as patron.

Colin Edis goes on to describe the present day work of Enrych

“Being able to enjoy a hobby or interest and promoting independence is at the heart of our work. Our core service is matching disabled people living in Leicestershire and Derbyshire with either one to one volunteer support, or one to one Personal Assistant support so that they can access their favourite pastimes and recreational activities, or just receive support that will help them in their daily lives. The impact can be life changing for them and their families. They feel less isolated, more confident, and have a better quality of life.”

Enrych also organises a varied programme of events that promote social inclusion, these include days out, group activities and an accessible allotment.

Enrych are always looking for volunteers to support Enrych in a number of ways whether it’s partnering with one of our members, organising an event or group activity, fundraising, helping in the office, or becoming a trustee.

Enrych are always on the lookout too for people who may like to become paid PA’s. Both PA’s and volunteers can play significant roles in the lives of disabled people in our community.

To mark the anniversary, Enrych are organising a special celebratory day on 23rd September at their base in the Marlene Reid Centre in Coalville.

Eventually, painfully, Emily began to let go of what had been and come to terms with the realities of her changed life.

This is her fourth book but the first to recount the last 20 years and her struggle to come to terms with how dramatically her life was changed by illness.

You Can’t Miss It – Campaign Launches Ahead Of EU Referendum With the EU referendum fast approaching, North West Leicestershire District Council is urging residents to look out for the Electoral Commission’s information booklet being delivered in the coming days.

The referendum on the UK’s membership of the European Union will take place on Thursday 23 June 2016.

The booklet, which will be delivered to every household across the UK over the next few days, contains important

It’s All Happening At The Marlene Reid Centre!

It’s busy times at The Marlene Reid Centre after securing a £15,000 grant from the North West Leicestershire’s £20,000 for Seven Awards Scheme which has seen the start of a brand new furniture upcycling project. Lesley Massey, Operations Manager at The Marlene Reid Centre said “The new upcycling project will offer superb volunteering and training opportunities to people who wish to learn new skills” she added “all of the upcycled items will be for sale to the general public”. The upcycling furniture project will run alongside the REACT Furniture Project which is an existing re-use project offering quality used furniture for sale as well as brand new stock too.

If you are having a clear out and have any unwanted furniture or white goods that you would like to donate to the project call 01530 512454 and the items can be collected for free within North West Leicestershire. If you have unwanted clothes, books. DVDs, or household items please donate them to The Attic which is MRC’s charity shop on Belvoir Road.

Donations can be taken directly to the shop or can be dropped into the main reception at The Marlene Reid Centre.

MRC continues to support the community in many different ways as it has done for more than 30 years. The Easter Appeal back in April was hugely successful and continues with the support from the East Midlands bikers, MRC were able to provide Easter eggs for many community groups, hospitals and the elderly. This appeal is very similar to the Toy Appeal which saw more than 60 bags of toys, books and games given out to families who, for whatever reason found it difficult to provide for their family over the Christmas period. This year, Hugglescote Primary School helped by donating over £300 from their Christmas Jumper Day to support this fantastic appeal.

As a community hub of Coalville, MRC provides a wealth of services including transport for the elderly: days out, shopping trips and transport to important health related appointments.

MRC’s relies on the help of more than 100 volunteers who offer their time on a regular basis to help them provide all of the much needed services. So, if you have some spare time and fancy offering some of it as a volunteer please get in touch!

Born in 1901, Alfred Pallett was a true child of the ‘new-world’ found in twentieth century Britain. His teenage years were overshadowed by the menace of the First World War raging across the seas in Europe and looming above England in the dark form of Zeppelins scouting and bombing the country. Pallett had been training as an accountant as the war came to its close, but failed to pass his exams and so turned his hand instead to typewriter sales for a company in Leicester.

However, in 1919 (at the age of only eighteen years) in a fit of entrepreneurial eagerness he set up his own company. Cascelloid Limited, as it was then known, was a company that manufactured an array of products from plastic.

In the late nineteen-thirties ‘Palitoy’ came into being as a section of the company dealing specifically with toy production.

A special factory was acquired in Coalville to create Palitoy Toys. Palitoy was responsible for creating Action Man, Care

Double Bill For Music Lovers

Sanctuary’s Sincere Thanks To Two Local Companies Gi Group And Centrica (British Gas)

Loughborough Orchestra will be sharing the stage with the Newtown Linford Choral Society again at their Summer Concert after a successful collaboration in 2014.

This year the Mozart Requiem Mass in D minor will be performed in the second half of the concert. This is the last piece of music written

by Mozart and has something of a mysterious element.

An unknown person commissioned the Requiem but Mozart died before it was finished. There is no record of what Mozart had completed, or which pieces he had sketched out.

It was important for Constanze, Mozart’s widow, to have the work completed so that she could claim payment. She first asked Joseph von Eybler but when he felt unable to complete it, she passed it on to Franz Xaver Sϋssmeyer.

Whatever the origins, this is one of the most frequently performed pieces of choral music in the repertoire.

The first half of the programme has some rousing and tuneful melodies with very different background scenarios!

William Walton wrote various film scores and many of these became popular in their own right. The Spitfire Prelude and Fugue was adapted from the score for “The First of the Few” – a biopic featuring the designer of the Spitfire. The music immediately became part of popular orchestral repertoire and has remained so ever since.

Smetana was intent on engendering nationalist feelings in his music – and none more so than his tone poem “Má vlast”.

This piece of music depicts various scenes from life in Bohemia (now Czech Republic), the most

The well known tune which runs throughout the piece is based on a Czech folk tune.

Although Brahms lived at much the same time as Smetana, the background for the Academic Festival Overture is very different!

Brahms was already an acclaimed composer when he was awarded an honorary doctorate of music from the University of Breslau. He was given a nudge that a piece of music in honour of the university would be an appropriate means to show his thanks.

Two years later, he completed the Academic Festival Overture, which he described as a “rollicking potpourri of student songs” and probably not what the University expected at all!

The concert will be performed on Saturday June 18th at 7.30pm.

And all the better because both were projects that have directly benefited the animals – Redgate’s number 1 priority. Thank you to everyone who came – you are fantastic people!

On Friday 20th May, Cassie Mallon of the Gi Group, Coalville, came with her colleagues to Redgate to landscape the Memorial Garden at the back of the old kennels and convert it into ‘Goose Meadow’ – a new home (with attached fox-proof night shelter), for our flock of geese. It was a long day of hard work – lots of digging, sawing, fencing and painting - but the difference is amazing. Our helpers from the Gi Group also planted a new hawthorn hedge to attract more wild birds and have even treated us to a new gate and archway into the memorial garden, which will be arriving any day now! We can’t wait to see them. At least two of the day’s volunteers also fell in love with our old horses and hope to return to volunteer when time allows.

On Wednesday 25th May, Neal Johnston led a group of local staff from Centrica (British Gas) to work on a field shelter project for Redgate. They erected a large field shelter for our

sheep to take refuge in during extremes of weather; a big and tiring job, but executed with skill and perseverance. (We were particularly lucky in that one volunteer from Centrica has just built his own house!). They also painted out two catteries in fresh white paint, and they look so much better now - and more cheerful for their new residents.

(By the way, if you or anyone you know is looking for a pet cat, we have some beautiful new cats in, and some awaiting transfer from the quarantine cattery).

We could not do the bigger jobs such as building work and landscaping, or large-scale painting, without the support of volunteers like those who worked with us in May; so we thank both companies for the good work they have done for the animals of Coalville’s local sanctuary and re-homing centre.

Please call us if you would like to volunteer at any time over the summer or autumn – we do not have extensive facilities but we can provide a warm welcome and a nice lunch!

And please don’t forget the annual Dog Show on Sunday 14th August, from 10.30am – 3.30pm make a note in your diary!

Summer Colour We’ve had some lovely sunny days recently to give a taste of what summer will bring, enough to warm the earth and lift the spirits. With the weather improving our attention increasingly turns to the garden.

It’s easy to add a splash of seasonal colour with a visit to the local garden centre or nursery in June & July, but what to choose?

Verbena

Dahlias

Plants for Containers

Pelargonium – AKA Upright geraniums, these come in a huge range of colours from vibrant reds and pinks to soft lilac and white.

They are great in pots, coping in hot spots and infrequent watering. Scented Pelargoniums are a favourite of mine. They have less prominent flowers but the heavily scented foliage, often patterned or textured they make an interesting display.

Verbena – these come in a range of habits, either trailing, bushy or a combination of the two. They all flower prolifically, benefiting from occasional dead heading. Again there is a vast range to choose from including some pretty bicoloured forms.

Million Bells – These are my favourite plants for containers and hanging baskets. They flower from May right through to October without the need to deadhead.

there are so many of them that they create great mounds of colour.

New Guinea Impatiens – The large flowered and leaved cousins of Buzy Lizzies, these provide a dramatic splash of colour throughout the summer. They are really tender so be sure to plant them out once all chance of frost has past.

Begonias – the popular Non-Stop and Illumination forms flower constantly through the summer months without the need for constant attention.

Gap fillers for borders

Fuchsias – choose bush forms rather than the trailing ones and these will fit neatly into empty gaps in the border. There are small dainty blooms right through to the huge American hybrids with deeply ruffled blooms. Fuchsias do benefit from deadheading to remove spent flowers and their purple fruits in order to prolong the flowering.

Fuchsias are particularly good in shady areas and are equally as happy in well watered containers as they are in the ground.

Osteospermum – the Cape Daisy, these neat plants are smothered in large daisies in a whole range of colours from spring to late summer.

Deadheading is worthwhile to ensure they remain floriferous.

Osteospermum Compactum or O. ‘Tresco Purple’. These varieties reliably make it through each winter, whereas most will succumb to the frosts.

Dahlias – Garden centres and nurseries stock dwarf varieties of Dahlias at this time of year with are particularly good for popping in to gaps in the border as well as pots.

Great clusters of petals in a rainbow of colours are held on sturdy stems above green or purple foliage.

Deadheading is essential as is fending off greedy slugs.

Rudbeckia – hardy varieties are commonly found in borders, but there are many half-hardy varieties offered in garden centres and nurseries in early summer to give brilliantly bright blooms non-stop until late autumn. New varieties have large blooms with interesting blotched petals.

Deadhead to prolong their season of interest.

Pelargoniums, Dahlias, Fuchsias and Million Bells will be featuring heavily in my garden this year.

Marlborough Square Redevelopment Cllr Michael Wyatt has written again to the Leader of the Council after he met with him and senior members of the Council about plans to redevelop the Marlborough Square area.

Cllr Wyatt said, “I’m really disappointed that the Tories are once again struggling to come up with some positive ideas to help regenerate this much needed area. The Litten Tree site is an absolute eye sore. The first thing the Council should do is force the owners to clean up the outside, which is falling apart.”

New Chairman For North West Leicestershire District Council Ceremonial chains of office were handed to Councillor John Cotterill as he took over as Chairman of North West Leicestershire District Council (NWLDC) at its annual meeting on Tuesday 17 May 2016.

Councillor Cotterill, who has been a member of NWLDC since 2011, is the ward councillor for Coalville East. As well as presiding over meetings of the Full Council, the Chairman will represent the council at a variety of events across the district and will raise money for his chosen charities.

Where Is The Regeneration Project For Our Town You Promised?

Liberal Democrat Cllr Michael Wyatt has attacked the Conservative controlled council for failing in it’s promise to deliver a properly thought out regeneration project for Coalville.

Cllr Wyatt said, “The Tories promised to deliver a better deal for our Town but all they have delivered is absolutely nothing. It was myself who convinced the Council to take action at the Pick and Shovel site so when you look at what they have actually achieved, then the simple truth is clear to see. Sitting in meetings looking at figures and statistics is not enough, we need a plan that will move our Town forward. We need a new designer outlet in Coalville. We have several brown field sites in our Town that could easily fit a new shopping mall or an entertainment Park which many local residents want to see in our Town. I really do think it's time the Tories started to deliver instead of continuing with their current policy of delivering absolutely nothing.”

In taking on the role, Councillor Cotterill told the meeting: “I have chosen LOROS as one charity, as it is a local organisation that does great work. I have also chosen the Air Ambulance, as it is close to my heart and is completely independently financed. I hope fellow councillors and the public will be able to support me in my efforts to raise money for these two valuable charities.”

“I am very much looking forward to my coming year as Chairman and hope I represent the council and the district well.”

Outgoing Chairman, Councillor John Bridges, passed on the chains of office during the full council meeting, saying: “During the last 12 months I’ve been to

many events and represented the good people of this area. There are so many people in our district who are unsung heroes and do a great service to their communities. My advice to any incoming Chairman is to go out there, listen to people and represent this authority, which I believe is a great council that we should be proud of.”

During his time as Chairman, Councillor Bridges raised £6,691 for his chosen charity, the Alzheimer’s Society, helped in part by his wife and consort Annette Bridges, who cycled from London to Brighton, raising £1,200.

The meeting also saw two councillors receive certificates to mark their long service. Both Councillor John Coxon and Councillor Nigel Smith received awards for 21 years service.

Councillor Coxon told the meeting: “It gave me great pride when I was elected as a councillor.

I have served my home town of Ashby for this time; I hope I have been able to do a good job and will continue to do so.”

On receiving his 21 year service certificate, Councillor Smith said: “I would like to thank my wife Alison for all her support over the years, and also everyone else for all the help they have given me in my role as councillor.”

Are you IN or are you OUT? On the doorstep, most voters are firmly in the ‘Don’t Know’ camp with a fair viewing saying they ‘Don’t Care’ either way.

Under pressure from a failing economic model based on inequality and greed, the current Government is hoping the private sector will build enough houses for everyone’s need. The Government’s National Planning Policy Framework (NPPF) makes it difficult for local Councils to say no. There is no longer any subsidy to develop derelict land.

Developers are free to build on every pretty green field, blurring the boundaries of our villages and encroaching on ancient forests.

What most people want is an economy that works better for ordinary people. They want a Government that is on their side.

I am not convinced that leaving Europe will stop British factory owners from recruiting cheap labour from abroad. Outside Europe, employers will be free to offer lower pay, longer hours, reduced maternity pay and shorter holidays.

Don’t waste your vote on June 23rd.

Houses, houses everywhere! But can you afford to buy? I went back to see my first house the other day. A pretty modern two bedroom terrace on a quiet estate, it cost me all of £25k in the mid-1980s.

According to the property website Zoopla, the next generation of house-buyers are paying £125-150k for a similar house in Coalville. Incomes haven’t risen 5-600% in the last few decades.

This is before we consider what is rapidly becoming the horrifying prospect that is TTIP. This is the Transatlantic Trade & Investment Partnership, a trade agreement being negotiated in secret by the EU with the USA. From leaked reports of its contents, it is extremely worrying. Take one example from this which is the introduction of Investor-State Dispute Settlements (ISDS).

This will let companies sue governments if their policies impact on their profits. This would mean American corporations can dictate the policies of the British Government. This is an appalling affront to our democracy and sovereignty.

Project Fear will continue to ramp up their scaremongering efforts in the next few weeks, and it is important to remember that the only thing to fear is fear itself and I urge you to vote to leave the EU on the 23rd June.

In addition to this, the EU is making us less safe because in spite of recent terrorist incidents, it continues to operate with open borders under the Schengen agreement, something the former Secretary General of Interpol, Ronald K Noble, described as ‘an international passport-free zone for terrorists to execute attacks on the Continent and make their escape’

What can local people do in the face of such powerful capitalist forces? There is one tool that is worth a try. The NPPF encourages communities to write a ‘Neighbourhood Plan’. Parish and Town Councils can work with professional planners to decide where they want to put the houses and which green spaces and footpaths need to be preserved from obliteration by urban sprawl.

As predicted, we have been subjected to project fear in recent weeks with dire warnings coming from the Remain campaign and the Treasury about recession, job losses, house prices and even war.

All this scaremongering is serving to do however is show the real weakness in the positive case for staying within the EU. Let me state the facts again, there is a net cost of around £8 billion a year that we have to borrow to pay to the EU budget. A budget whose accounts have not been signed off for 20 years may I add because of fraud and corruption.

Last October Professor Danny Dorling, an Oxford geographer, told a Nottingham audience there are enough bedrooms for everyone to have one each.

The problem is inequality. Some people have more than one house.

Holiday homes in out-of-the-way places drive up prices beyond the reach of rural young people who are forced to seek cheaper houses in the congested conurbations of the Midlands and South East.

I have a lot of respect for the ‘Don’t Knows’ in the Euro Campaign. They have spotted the fundamental flaw with the Referendum. It is what academic researchers call an ‘Iceberg Question’. If you think there can be a simple YES/NO answer to an issue as big as Europe then you are not looking below the waterline.
