A Man of Uncommon Integrity and Deep Compassion Over 28 years ago, Richard W. Schneider arrived in Northfield, Vermont to become the 23rd president of Norwich University. In the nearly three decades he has served as president, he has inspired and executed his strategic plan with extraordinary competence, humility and boundless energy.

Ever aware of his obligation to keep the vision of Captain Alden Partridge alive, to champion our mission and to honor and emulate our guiding values, President Schneider has been the chief executive officer of a complex organization, an academic leader ensuring students are prepared to assume leadership roles in a global society, a fan of student-athletes in every sport, a bridge builder both within and outside of the Norwich community, a story teller and a role model.

Schneider Legacy Project In an expression of gratitude for the exceptional leadership of President Schneider, and his 28 years of service to Norwich University, the Board of Trustees is pleased to announce the Schneider Legacy Project to celebrate the legacy of Norwich’s longestserving president.

All gifts to the Schneider Legacy Project will not only honor the incredible impact President Schneider has had on Norwich, but will continue his good work in areas that are important to him and his wife, Jaime, while also ensuring that the university remains strong and affordable into its third century of service. Tribute gifts will benefit the Richard and Jaime Schneider Scholarship and the Norwich Fund.

1997

Norwich University’s online graduate program was launched. Today, the College of Graduate and Continuing Studies offers 112 online master’s and seven online bachelor’s degree completion programs, four online certificates, and nine online professional development courses through Norwich ProSM to over 1,400 students.

1999

Norwich launched the Bachelor of Science in Computer Security & Information Assurance, laying the foundation to leadership in cybersecurity and digital forensics education.

2001

Norwich is one of the earliest and the smallest institution of higher education recognized by the NSA as a National Center of Academic Excellence in Information Assurance Education.

2002

Norwich created the Norwich University Applied Research Institutes (NUARI) with the vision to develop an applied national research and development center, building on concepts and topics to advance NU’s brand.

2008

Todd Lecture Series is established bringing such notable speakers as former Secretary of State Colin Powell, futurist P.W. Singer and 39th Chief of Staff, U.S. Army, Gen. Mark A. Milley to Norwich and the central Vermont community.

2014

The Sullivan Museum and History Center is recognized as a Smithsonian Affiliate®, the first in Vermont, and is one of fewer than 200 of the nation’s 6000 museums to receive this prestigious designation.

2015

Established CityLAB: Berlin, a multi-disciplinary study abroad program in Germany.

2019

The five-year Forging the Future bicentennial commemoration and campaign is completed. 96.2% of all academic space has been renovated. In addition, 31.5% of all new construction has gone to academic areas to enhance students’ experiential learning across 36 academic majors.

2021
