STAGE TWO: A NEW OPPORTUNITY FOR NORFOLK Norwich Theatre Royal has been a central part of Norfolk life for over 250 years. It has been an educational charity since 1971 and works with over 18,000 children and young people each year.

We aim to become the region’s leading centre for learning and skills in the creative arts through the creation of a new, dedicated building and an expansion of our education team.

“I thought it was brilliant and it has boosted his confidence 10 times over. He now feels that if he can do that he can do anything.” Parent

STAGE TWO, our £3.9m learning and skills centre will open in autumn 2016 and we need your help to raise the remaining £1m.

“With your support, we can help transform Norfolk’s future into one that brings new levels of aspiration and ambition to our young people and communities.”

Peter Wilson, Chief Executive

WE NEED YOUR HELP Our ambition is far reaching and the construction of STAGE TWO is just the beginning of this journey. We need individuals like you to help us. With the support of a number of trusts and foundations, the theatre’s own resources and Board commitments we have pledges of over £2m. We still need to raise £1m.

Donations can be made as a single one-off payment, or as a monthly or yearly pledge over the next 3 years. In addition, your donation may qualify for an additional 25% Gift Aid from the government, as well as personal tax relief if you are a higher rate taxpayer. Individual donors of larger amounts will be acknowledged on our donor board in the main theatre building and in a dedicated area in STAGE TWO, in addition to recognition on our website and in our Annual Social Impact Report. To make a donation, visit theatreroyalnorwich.co.uk/stagetwo, or call (01603) 598558.

OUR FUTURE Our vision is to inspire generations of Norfolk’s young people and its wider community. This is an ambitious shift expressed through a 30 year commitment to STAGE TWO, more investment, and deeper partnerships and collaborations with world-leading artists and arts organisations.

The new 3 storey building will house a small auditorium, rehearsal and practical learning spaces and offices for our education team. STAGE TWO will: • Help transform the aspirations and ambitions of Norfolk’s young people, raise their confidence and develop their talent

“A positive and uplifting experience which has seen us begin the project with many self-conscious and vulnerable children and end it with determined, confident and happy individuals.” Teacher

• Help embed the performing arts in every Norfolk school • Offer teachers professional development opportunities • Encourage creativity through business training and community learning programmes

“The Theatre Royal already undertakes a programme of vital work for our young people, but STAGE TWO would transform their reach and the breadth of learning opportunities, improving the life chances of our local young people.” Gordon Boyd, Assistant Director Education Strategy & Commissioning, Norfolk County Council

THE PRESENT Over 6,000 young people annually participate in our education programme and another 12,000 students and teachers, from over 80% of Norfolk schools, attend performances.

A year round programme including: • Tours, talks and Q&As with visiting companies, Teacher CPD and workshops • Norfolk Schools Project, our twice-yearly Key Stage 2 programme introducing primary school children to theatre through music and opera • Theatre Arts Courses deliver theatre skills training for over 600 individuals each year on structured, accredited courses including performances STAGE TWO will ensure that the quality of experience is of a national standard, widen opportunities for an additional 5,000 young people each year, and accommodate the existing work on our site.

“My companies and I have worked with Norwich Theatre Royal and their Education Department for many years. But as much as we do with the Education Department we would love to do more, and we know that if there were suitable dedicated space within the Theatre's own premises, our dancers could operate from the Theatre itself, and we would raise our ambitions even higher.” Matthew Bourne OBE “The world’s most popular living dance maker” Time Magazine

“It was fantastic. The project inspired and interested the children, embracing their creative ability, imagination and gave them confidence to perform. I was so proud.” Parent
