Here’s a look at some of our favorite ways to stay fit and feel rejuvenated during your Naples vacation. By Vanessa Molina Santamaria For some, vacation is a time to kick back, relax and do very little. There’s nothing wrong with that, and there are certainly ample opportunities to do exactly that at Naples Grande Beach Resort. But others seek a little more action from their getaway. For the and adventure seekers out there, rest assured that opportunities abound during your stay.

Over the years, Naples Grande’s commitment to excellence has been recognized with numerous awards, including Condé Nast Traveler Readers’ Choice Award for 2021, ConventionSouth’s New or Renovated Meeting Site Award for 2021 and Tripadvisor Certificate of Excellence in 2020. It is also a AAA Four Diamond–designated resort.

Room to Recharge

The key to Naples Grande’s success, of course, starts with the spacious accommodations and relaxing ambience you’ll find in every room. Regardless of which room type you choose, you’ll be treated to a private balcony with breathtaking views. It’s the perfect spot to enjoy breakfast, relax with cocktails or simply curl up with a good book and enjoy the sunset. If you’re a pet parent, you’ve come to the right place. The resort welcomes one pet per room with a $150 fee. At check-in, your pet will receive a bandana adorned with the resort logo to identify your fur baby as a registered guest. Pet relief areas, as well as bowls and leashes at the retail shop, drive home the point that pet hospitality is part of the plan.

Treat Yourself

Of course, no trip to the resort is complete without a visit to The Spa at Naples Grande, the pinnacle of luxury spa facilities. With its exquisite gardens, beautiful fountains, meditation labyrinth, Zen-inspired sundecks and 12 spacious treatment rooms, you’ll be spoiled regardless of whether you prefer an indoor or outdoor spa experience. Gourmet Delights

If you’re interested in world-class dining options served up by award-winning chefs, then you won’t even have to leave the resort. Naples Grande has five unique options, as well as room service if you prefer to dine in the comfort of your guest rooms or furnished balcony. Whatever type of experience you’re looking for, Naples Grande’s dining program is socially engaging, offering fun events and exclusive custom experiences for visitors and locals alike. At The Catch of the Pelican restaurant, you can dine on locally caught seafood and steaks grilled to perfection in a relaxed-yet-sophisticated setting. The restaurant features a rotating seasonal menu that changes weekly and features fresh ingredients sourced locally. An exciting addition at The Catch of the Pelican is a one-of-a-kind brunch experience called Brunch “A La Kitchen.” Every Saturday and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., guests can go into the kitchen and watch as the chef creates limited-time seasonal dishes at a live-action station. It adds a delightful new dimension to the already-beloved weekend brunch featuring all-you-can-eat seafood and raw bar, a chef’s carving station, a variety of tapas-style specialties and sweet treats, all meant to indulge. Brunch also features the resort’s famous Bloody Mary Bar, which has over 48,000 combinations of rims, toppings, spirits and sauces. It’s a “must do” in Naples.

FOODIE FAVORITES Naples Grande’s Executive Chef Marcos Seville is introducing innovative culinary offerings to expand the resort’s already-amazing options. By Vanessa Molina Santamaria

From his time as a student at the Culinary Institute of America in Hyde Park, New York, to his experience overseeing some of America’s finest resort restaurants, Marcos Seville has had a storied culinary career. In 2021, he took the next big step when he accepted the title of executive chef at the Naples Grande Beach Resort. Resort guests with a passion for the world’s finest cuisine are in good hands with Chef Seville. Having honed his technique in fine restaurants from New York and Arizona to Orlando, he’s excited about taking the already-superb culinary experience at Naples Grande to the next level. “My focus at Naples Grande Beach Resort is to build a relationship with our guests and enhance their alreadyexperienced palates,” he says. “I’d like to deliver the best representation of Naples and Southwest Florida in each of our dishes and challenge myself to make each dining experience across the resort memorable, leaving our guests wanting to return again and again.” In the coming months, guests can expect a lot from Chef Seville and his staff, both in terms of top-level dishes and culinary experiences. “We will be debuting a private full-moon dinner on the beach, a chef’s tasting dinner at The Catch of the Pelican and a new rum bar at Mantra,” he says. “I will also be debuting cooking classes along with my team in our kitchen.” Of course, the innovative cuisine is one of the highlights at Naples Grande, and guests can expect many more offerings in the months ahead to accompany the award-winning dishes already on the menu. Some of the can’t-miss experiences that Chef Seville recommends are Brunch "A La Kitchen," the famous Bloody Mary Bar with 48,000 possible variations and the custom beach sunset dinner for two. In terms of specific dishes, Chef Seville says you can’t go wrong with the Grande Seafood Tower or the prime dry-aged steaks at The Catch of the Pelican — though his personal favorite dish at the restaurant is the scallops with sofrito and a buttery cauliflower puree. At Mantra, he recommends the upscale sushi rolls, Chef Cesar’s signature pretzel-crusted crab cakes and the large selection of rum. No matter which restaurant you choose, you’re sure to have a grande culinary experience. W W W. N A P L E S G R A N D E .CO M

Make a Splash

For pool and beach lovers, you’d be hardpressed to find a resort with more to offer than Naples Grande. The three resort pools are thoughtfully designed for a wide variety of guest activities and preferences. With a water slide, cabanas with TVs and video game stations, among other details, the Mangrove Pool is made for family fun. Adults and children alike can’t get enough of the water slide action! If you’re looking for something away from all the action, try the adult-exclusive Palm Terrace Pool, with private cabanas in a more relaxed and sophisticated setting. Finally, there’s the Hibiscus Hideaway, which is tucked away between the Garden Villa Suite courtyards. This secluded pool is perfect for water aerobics and lap swimming.

The Catch of the Pelican is just the beginning of the elevated dining experiences Naples Grande serves its guests. Aura Restaurant offers a delicious American cuisine menu that uses local and sustainable ingredients, including vegetarian and gluten-free options, and raises the dining bar with its cosmopolitan atmosphere. At Rhode’s End, you can enjoy sumptuous Mediterranean flavors along with beautiful views of the beaches and the Gulf of Mexico. It’s a perfect place to enjoy a romantic sunset with a delicious cocktail. Additional dining options include the chic Mantra lounge, featuring specialty rum cocktails and champagne with delicious food to complement the lobby hot spot with live music on weekends; Gulf Coast Oasis for casual poolside meals; Spressi Marketplace for Italian-style brews, gelato and delectable all-day bites; and the open-air Sunset Veranda — the perfect spot

@daniduqued “Definitely my favorite thing to do in Naples is walk on Fifth Avenue South, have dinner at some of the great restaurants and watch the sunset. When it comes to a family-friendly hotel, Naples Grande is great — there’s so many amazing things to do here, and the view from the room’s balcony was spectacular. Our trip was filled with moments I will cherish forever. I’m in love with Naples!”

@ettevi_wanderlust "The Naples Grande is centrally located with a boardwalk that takes you right to the sandy beaches. Surrounded by 200 acres of protected mangrove forest intertwined with elevated walking paths, the resort’s many attractions mean one will probably find almost everything needed for a complete vacation. There’s also an excellent selection of dining options. My favorite, The Catch of the Pelican, features steaks and Floridian seafood; and the kitchen uses lots of produce grown on the property.”

@oxananiki “I go to Naples every month to visit my family. Love that it’s only a short twohour drive from Miami. We normally go out for brunch at the Naples Grande hotel, where we feast on the Bloody Mary Bar and delicious seafood. After brunch, we enjoy shopping on Fifth Avenue South, which has a variety of boutiques and unique shops. We also enjoy family picnics at Lovers Key State Park or taking the boat to small uninhabited islands around Naples.” W W W. N A P L E S G R A N D E .CO M

Philly has its cheesesteak; San Francisco its sourdough. Naples? The grouper sandwich! You’ll find various takes on the ubiquitous dish on many menus throughout Naples. Never Forget

The Naples Holocaust Museum recalls one of the world’s darkest eras and its connection to many residents of Southwest Florida. Tucked in an unassuming strip mall, the museum is dedicated to those who perished under the Nazis’ brutal regime.

Sell a Shell

Shelling while in the Paradise Coast is a must-do experience, and you may spot a rare find while on the hunt. Combing beaches can be profitable at Sanibel and Marco Island if you’re lucky enough to pocket a spotted, creamcolored junonia, one of the rarest shells in the world. The large sea slugs that inhabit them thrive in deep ocean waters. Their coveted shells are brought to shore only by the sporadic hurricanes or the rarer tsunami, and some can fetch as much as $300 on the open market.

Experienced cave divers rave about the Black Hole, a 100-foot-diameter opening that leads to an ancient sinkhole spring. Others endeavor to fathom the mysteries of sunken ships, explore vibrant coral reefs and hang out with titan turtles and schools of multihued fish. Dive companies will set you up with transportation and gear. Many also offer classes if you aren’t certified to dive.

Southwest Florida’s largest sailing catamaran offers sightseeing excursions and sunset cruises, as well as trips to Keewaydin Island, where you can have an amazing beach day with sun, sand and shelling — and you may even spot some dolphins along the way. We sat down with Captain Susan Chaplin, co-owner and president of Sweet Liberty, to learn more about their offerings and get a local’s perspective on some hidden gems. Q: What does Sweet Liberty offer for visitors to the Naples area? A: Aside from being a long-standing Naples tradition, the Sweet Liberty has a tropical vibe with a small business feel. Our sunset cruises have been voted as the best way to see the sunset multiple times, and we have to agree. The fact that you can pack your own little picnic with food and libations is always a special treat for our customers. Q: What sets Sweet Liberty apart?

Ecotouring

Q: What inspired you to get into the boating business?

What better way to learn about the environment as you make new friends and memories than on a guided tour? Manatee Sightseeing EcoTours offers close encounters with the gentle, lumbering sea cows. You can also board Sweet Liberty, the largest and longest-running sailing catamaran in Naples, for an unforgettable shelling cruise to Keewaydin Island.

A: My business partner, Shane, was born and raised in the Florida Keys, so he had a very strong background in boating. When we got married, we had our rehearsal dinner on the Sweet Liberty in 2001. We thought that maybe someday we could buy the Sweet Liberty, and 15 years later, our dream came true! We worked so hard and struggled for many years with our young family to be able to make that happen, but the hard work and dedication has truly paid off. It’s no longer work when you truly love what you do.

The Paradise Coast Blueway is a network of routes that lead kayakers and canoers on an exciting journey through mangroves out to the Gulf. Experienced guides will point out natural treasures as you paddle your way along the tranquil waters of the Cocohatchee River.

Q: Can you share a must-do experience for visitors to Naples?

Reel Them In

A: We’re a family-run business, and our crew are like family to us, as well. I believe most of our customers recognize that feeling when they step foot on our boat. We’ve had some of the same guys with us for years, and the customers love recognizing their familiar faces.

A: My favorite beach walk is parking near the corner of 32nd and Gordon and walking down to Gordon Pass. There are rarely any people down there, so it’s your own little paradise. Our shelling cruise to Keewaydin Island in the mornings is also a favorite of mine. I love going for a nice walk on the island. One other favorite is doing a Jet Ski tour to see the dome houses near Cape Romano. Sweet Liberty is located at 880 12th Ave. S. at the Naples City Dock. M/V Sea Flight II is the newest private fishing vessel, offering comfort and power for faster speeds to deeper waters. Choose from a four-, six- or eight-hour trip with plenty of fishing time. Pure Florida provides everything, including licenses, rods, reels, bait and tackle. You only need to show up! At the end of the trip, all keeper fish are cleaned,

filleted and put on ice to either take home or take to be prepared at one of the Tin City restaurants. How’s that for fresh seafood? Backwater Calm Bay Fishing trips are a great option for people who want less turbulence than deep sea and for families with younger children who want to join in the fishing fun. These three-and-a-half-hour fishing trips take guests to fish along the coastal islands, where the views are gorgeous and the fishing is just as fun! Be on the lookout for dolphins — they are fun to watch, but they will not hesitate to beat you to your catch. This option offers an ideal combination of eco-cruising and fishing excitement.

Three area beaches roll out the welcome mat for man’s best friend. Bonita Beach Dog Beach, north of Naples, is the only sandy shore where Fido can frolic free. The beach at Keewaydin Island also is open to dogs, but they must remain on a leash. Delnor-Wiggins State Park also requires a leash. The beach is off-limits, but your canine companion is welcome to cool off on a swim in Turkey Bay. For a truly unique experience, Pure Florida’s Bark on the Ark dog-friendly cruises provides a special outing for the whole family — including your furry friend. Cruise from the historic Tin City docks through Naples Bay, into Dollar Bay, then to Rookery Bay where you enjoy the beach at Keewaydin Island — an exclusive island only available to boaters. The dogs and their human companions will have some free time on Keewaydin to play fetch, jump in the water or enjoy a relaxing nature walk along the island. Pure Florida provides each dog on board with their own “doggy bag” that includes a dogfriendly tennis ball, healthy treats, two ecofriendly waste bags and a bottled water. Families are welcome to bring towels, snacks and other refreshments to make the experience enjoyable for their puppy pals. Pure Florida offers Bark on the Ark dog cruises the second Saturday of each month. Departure times vary throughout the year between 8 and 9 a.m. The cruise experience lasts three hours.

A Shore Thing

A kiss is just a kiss, a sigh is just a sigh, but a beach is a many-splendored thing. By Jeffrey Laign

Best for Families

Lowdermilk Park is packed with amenities and attractions that are great for adults and kids: Think a duck pond, two playgrounds, sand volleyball courts and more. Gazebo pavilions are prime gathering spots for reunions, birthday parties and family picnics.

Best for Watersports

If you’re an adrenaline junkie, you’ll find your sporting fix at South Marco Beach. Zip around on a Jet Ski or WaveRunner, belly up to a banana boat, skim the water’s surface on a paddle board or get your blood pumping as you soar above the Gulf on an unforgettable parasailing adventure.

Best for Romance

Naples Municipal Beach & Fishing Pier offers couples the best of both worlds. The

city’s celebrated landmark stretches 1,000 feet over the Gulf of Mexico and is a famed spot for watching spectacular sunsets. Just off the sand, nature gives way to chic boutiques and intimate restaurants.

Best for Solitude

People are not plentiful at the off-thebeaten-track Barefoot Beach Preserve County Park. What you will find are loggerhead sea turtles, migratory osprey, gopher turtles and secluded spots that are perfect for meditation and reflection.

Best for Exploring

Although it’s been ranked among Florida’s top 10 beaches, Lovers Key State Park still manages to elude the crowds. The secluded gem in Bonita Springs, just north of Naples, is great for sunning and swimming; but to thoroughly experience this special park, rent a kayak or canoe and explore its four barrier islands.

Best for Nature Lovers

If you’re staying at Naples Grande Beach Resort,

you’re a boardwalk away from Clam Pass Park, a 35-acre habitat for shorebirds and other creatures that thrive in red, white and black mangroves. Keep your camera ready. Closer to the heart of the city, Vanderbilt Beach is a draw for birders and a likely place to spot a dolphin.

Best for Anglers

Pompano, sea trout, snook and tarpon are among the many species of fish that thrive in the waters in and around Delnor-Wiggins Pass State Park. Cast your rod from shore or see what you can hook from back bays, the Cocohatchee River and the farther reaches of the Gulf.

Best for Shelling

Tigertail Beach in Marco Island is a prime spot for collecting colorful seashells, especially if you comb the northern tip of the beach known as Sand Dollar Spit. You will find roseate spoonbills, snowy plovers and other shorebirds congregating in tidal pools across the lagoon. Another great place to go shelling is on Keewaydin Island, accessible only by boat.

Your expert guide may even point out a mother and calf, as these animals form very strong bonds and remain together for one to two years. RETAIL RAPTURE

More than a mere pastime, shopping in Naples is a delightful duty. By Chelle Koster Walton Shopping is one of the best ways to discover a sense of place in Naples, where the goods range from stunning watercolors depicting local seascapes to high-end designer fashion, jewelry and accessories. Thanks to Naples’ mild climates year-round, shopping is as much an outdoor activity as it is retail therapy. Start with the newest up-and-coming destinations and then make the rounds.

Fifth Avenue is also home to an arts center and Sugden Community Theatre, where The Naples Players perform. The area generally exudes artful festivity, but that’s especially true during its regularly scheduled festivals and events held at Cambier Park. When you’re in the market for on-the-water outings — including fishing, sightseeing, sunset cruises, dolphinsighting and shelling tours — head to Pure Florida, which has its flagship location right there. The nearby shops carry casual resort styles, jewelry and fun souvenirs and gifts. World of Style A: My love of fashion came from my grandmother. She never cared what others thought of her and wore whatever she thought made her look best. Whenever my sister and I visited her, she would shower us with trendy clothes she had bought for us. My love of travel came from growing up in a different country and moving here. When I first met my husband, we clicked over our mutual passion for travel; so we’ve always tried to make traveling a priority. Now, having our daughter just furthers our wanderlust. We want her to see different cultures and areas of the world with us. Q: How would you describe your style? A: My style leans toward elegant and timeless, but I keep it fun.

By Kiana Lynn Spiller

Naples-based fashion blogger and influencer Ilda Hobert shares her passion for travel, and adult and children’s fashion with the world, inspiring people along the way. We sat down with Hobert to learn more about what motivates her and to get the inside scoop on all things Naples. You can find her blog at www.worldofmodernmom. com or follow her on Instagram at @ildahobert. Q: How long have you lived in Naples? A: I’ve lived in Naples for about 16 years. We moved here shortly after my family emigrated from Albania. Q: What do you love most about living in Naples? A: I love being near the water. My family and I are huge boating and beach people. I also love the art and fashion vibe downtown and all the community events. Q: What’s a local hidden gem that visitors should check out? A: I absolutely love Clam Pass Beach! Q: When did you develop your love of fashion and travel?

Q: What’s your must-have accessory? A: Jewelry, because it can complete any outfit! Q: When did you decide to start blogging? A: After having our daughter, I had to stay home to take care of her. I was looking for a way to express myself, and my husband brought up how people always asked me where I got my outfits. He suggested I start a blog. I jumped into it, fell in love and never looked back. Q: What made you decide to blog about travel, fashion and lifestyle? A: I love putting together outfits, traveling the world, experiencing new cultures and capturing memories. Those things just go together for me. Q: What’s something you hope your readers will gain from your blog? A: I hope they are inspired and informed. My goal is to be a go-to person for them in every chapter of their life.

Q: So far, what’s your favorite place to visit in Naples? A: There are just too many hidden gems here! I love many of our beaches, Fifth Avenue and the shopping districts. I honestly recommend that people explore and find what speaks to them. Naples is full of people from all over the world, which offers a unique opportunity to shop many styles and experience different cultures.

Monday-Sunday 6:30 AM – 9:00 PM

From tandoori-cooked dishes to local Indian spices, Chef Suman Chaniyil (Sam) has found a delectable way to introduce South Indian cuisine in Naples. Chef Sam was born in India’s southern state, Kerala — the spice capital of the world. Kerala is known as “God’s Own Country” for its serene backwaters, blankets of greenery, quaint towns and beautiful coastline. From here come some of India’s most flavorful preparations. And now, thanks to Chef Sam, you can find these sweet and savory treasures in Naples. After graduating from culinary school, Chef Sam worked with the Taj group of hotels in India, where he built quite a reputation for himself. He then moved to the United States in 2000 with his wife and kids, bringing with him his love for Indian food. Childhood memories of his mom’s seafood preparations inspired him to open Indian restaurants across Florida, including India’s Grill (Fort Myers), Spice Club Indian Grill (San Carlos Park) and Le Indya. Both India’s Grill and Spice Club Indian Grill focus on North Indian cuisine, while Le Indya dives into South Indian cuisine. Chef Sam’s recipes mainly use traditional spices imported from Kerala, and the flavors in the seafood dishes are elevated with fresh coconut and coconut oil — another significant South Indian influence. “The best items on our menu are the tandoori ovengrilled Kashmiri lamb chops and coastal seafood delicacies from my own state, Kerala,” he says. At Le Indya, you will find entrees with traditional Vindaloo curry (Portuguese-inspired Goan specialty), Kerala fish curry (a local favorite), Sula wines from India’s own vineyard, a collection of Indian beers, an assortment of naans (from garlic to wheat to paneer) and the infamous South Indian coffee. Inspired by a famous street in Philadelphia that was known for its artistic culture, urban atmosphere and steady ebb and flow of musicians, South Street roots itself in the philosophy that “South Street is more of an idea than it is a specific place.” Aside from its cool, laid-back ambience, which is only enhanced by graffiti walls and pop art, the venue is best known for its weekly musical performances. On Friday and Saturday evenings, South Street hosts acoustic acts — the perfect way to ease into the weekend. For a little bit of excitement and flare, Reggae Sundays have been a long-standing favorite for many who enjoy the smooth stylings of well-known and up-and-coming performers. Some of South Street’s most notable guests include One Drop, a reggae-meets-rock band from California; Casey James, one of American Idol’s most talented and well-known contestants; and The Apocalypse Blues Review, featuring Shannon Larkin and Tommy Rombola from Godsmack, along with Brian Carpenter and Ray Cerbone. Apart from its well-established list of musicians, what makes this venue truly unique is the combination of its stage space and stellar sound system. Rivaling those of stadiums and arenas, these elements have made this a prime spot for musicians to perform. Of course, South Street wouldn’t be complete without a stacked menu of comfort food, crisp craft beers and enticing cocktails. Start any meal with an order of tacos and Crispy Cauliflower Cheddar Bites to share before delving into pizza, Beer Battered Fish and Chips or Penne Marinara and Meatballs. South Street even offers a special menu called The Blues, which presents a variety of vegan-friendly options. To round it all out, be sure to try out one of The Street’s Seasonal Refreshers, such as the Poolside Prickly Pear Margarita or the “Oh Alice” Paloma, a blend of Don Julio Blanco Tequila, agave nectar, lime and grapefruit juices with a splash of club soda. With great food, incredible live music and crafty cocktails to top it all off, South Street is one scene you won’t want to miss. For more information, go to www.southstreetnaples.com.

ARTISTIC EXPRESSIONS No matter where you look, Naples’ cultural treasures bloom and glow. By Chelle Koster Walton With myriad galleries, a robust performing arts scene, a worldclass art museum and festivals that celebrate everything from local artists to international film, Naples culturally blossoms under its near-constant sunshine. Each season brings new delights to the city’s marquee, as venues reimagine their offerings and elevate the seasonal calendar with fresh-off-the-vine shows and exhibitions. Making headlines this year, Sugden Community Theatre, home to The Naples Players, has launched a $15 million project to improve and expand its Fifth Avenue South home of 23 years, along with its programming.

“Devoted to modern American art and featuring noteworthy traveling exhibits regularly, the Baker reopened in 2021 after a full renovation.” series has grown to become the Bonita International Film Festival, a grand showcase of 70 narrative, animated, documentary and short films screened over three days in May. Film festivals are just the beginning of an arts events schedule that spans every medium. The United Arts Council of Collier County dedicates the entire month of November to celebrating across the county with free concerts and festivities. At street level, Downtown Naples keeps it lively with art and crafts shows. From November through April, Naples Artcrafters Fine Art & Craft Shows fill Cambier Park each month with the work of talented local artists.

Another iconic downtown theater, Gulfshore Playhouse, also has a bright future with its new 56,000-square-foot cultural campus opening in 2023. It will be located a few blocks to the north, part of the Naples Design District. Closer to the Naples Grande Beach Resort, Artis–Naples commands the local arts scene with its roster of performing arts destinations and the highly regarded Baker Museum. Devoted to modern American art and featuring noteworthy traveling exhibits regularly, the Baker reopened in 2021 after a full renovation, complete with a new rooftop terrace and stunning courtyard sculptures, including Dale Chihuly’s Red Reeds — a gift

bequeathed by local philanthropists for the institution’s 20th anniversary. Its main hall, home to the Naples Philharmonic and Miami City Ballet, hosts a five-show Broadway series each year. Highlights of 2022 include Ain’t Too Proud: The Life and Times of the Temptations and My Fair Lady. Opera, jazz, film and more, Artis–Naples brings it all to the local cultural experience. Its highly anticipated Naples International Film Festival takes place every October. The four-day celebration of the genre features film debuts, filmmaker appearances and gala events. The Bonita Springs Centers for the Arts, too, has a diversified agenda of artful offerings spread over two campuses devoted to visual and performing arts. In the latter category, visitors can expect to see improv and film, with a mission to educate and engage the community. What began as a weekly film

In addition to all the event-related artistry, keep an eye out for special art exhibitions at local museums, including the Collier Museum at Government Center and Naples Depot Museum. These thematic exhibitions are a reflection of local history, arts and culture. Culture is embedded in Naples’ DNA and has been since its seaside first beckoned patrons of the arts to its shores. To this day, the creative and cultural scenes shine brightly thanks to the support of art lovers who have ensured that, though Naples is a small town, it boasts BIG culture.

More seating will help welcome additional guests, and the added space will also support the group’s education mission. Meanwhile, the 2022 season brings headliners, like Oscar Wilde’s An Ideal Husband and Mary Poppins, to the stage.

Early January ushers in a weekend of free juried fine works during the Naples New Year’s Art Show, which takes place along Fifth Avenue South. One weekend in March, the downtown shopping district hosts the Naples Downtown Art Show, which highlights the work of fine artists representing 17 different media. Yearround, Fifth Avenue South and intersecting Third Street South present a convergence of fine art galleries that carry works from art glass and African sculpture to contemporary American art and European masterpieces.

Meet Heather Ivy, an outstanding soprano vocalist in Naples. By Kiana Lynn Spiller

Heather Ivy has had a passion for music for as long as she can remember. From the time she was four years old, she recalls running around her house singing Phantom of the Opera. Music has always been a part of her life, but her formal musical studies began in middle school when she entered local solo and choral competitions.

she also learns much from her students, as they inspire her and constantly give her new ideas. Her advice to aspiring musicians is not to try being something or someone else. “Do what you do best,” she says. “That’s what they come to hear, and that’s what sparks the divine connection between artist and audience.”

In 2015, she and her husband also moved to Naples, and it quickly became her favorite place. They live with Skipper, a cocker spaniel, who works as a therapy dog for Ivy’s students. When she’s not performing, her favorite place in town is CycleBar Naples. She found her community there and recently celebrated her 500th ride.

Though she loves singing various genres and styles of music, Ivy was classically trained and began her career in musical theater; her signature piece is “Time to Say Goodbye” by Andrea Bocelli and Sarah Brightman. She draws inspiration from other musicians, her students and her teacher, Andrew Byrne, for whom she has a great appreciation.

She speaks from experience. After her tour with Beauty and the Beast, Ivy stopped singing for three years, looking to discover her identity apart from being a performing artist. After a while, she knew something was missing. She felt called to music and, thanks to her voice teacher, found a way back into the industry. Returning to the stage, she felt more fulfilled than she could have ever imagined. It empowered her to be vulnerable and true to herself.

If you’re looking for a great arts and culture experience in Naples, Ivy suggests Fifth Avenue South, The Naples Players, The London Club and Artis–Naples. Ivy performed her debut with the SWFL Symphony Orchestra when they presented Holiday Pops: A Big Band Christmas in Bonita Springs, Fort Myers and Punta Gorda in December 2021. She will also be performing at Artis–Naples with concert pianist Jodie DeSalvo.

When Ivy’s parents moved to Naples in 2005, the city became her home away from home.

Visit www.heatherivy.com for more information on her upcoming events.

Because she feels instruction was a gift she received, she shares what she’s learned over the years with her students, paying forward the knowledge and skill she was given. She says
