delights DELECTABLE
Embark on a culinary adventure and sample a selection of palate-pleasing flavours, from classic Bermudian fare to top-notch multicourse meals.
iIndulge in the tantalising flavours of Bermuda’s dining scene, where fresh seafood, island-inspired delicacies, and vibrant culinary traditions promise an unforgettable gastronomic journey for every palate. Bermuda is an idyllic island that’s unique in many ways, and the island’s cuisine is no exception. Influenced by the island’s history, its status as a British Overseas Territory, and its secluded location, culinary methods and flavours here are linked to Africa, England, Europe, and the U.S. The result: delightful dining experiences that are unlike anywhere else in the world.
Island Tastes
When diving into the local cuisine, there’s one must-try dish that stands out above the rest: the Bermuda fish sandwich. This island favourite isn’t just a staple. Chefs and restaurants here are constantly vying for the top spot, so you know that no matter where you go for your fish sandwich, you’re going to be served a combination of flavours that’s been crafted with care and is simply irresistible. The Swizzle Inn’s fish sandwich features a huge portion of local grilled wahoo coated in island seasonings, spicy slaw, lettuce, tomato, and their home-made tartar sauce, all piled high on local raisin bread. It’s a mouthful for sure, but this national obsession is a must-try.
Culinary methods and flavours here are linked to Africa, England, Europe, and the U.S.
If you’re looking for a libation to pair with your fish sandwich, look no further than the Rum Swizzle. Bermuda’s premier cocktail with a blend of Goslings rums and fruit juices — typically lemon, orange, and pineapple — sweetened with falernum is the perfect complement. As the story goes, this famed concoction was created at the Swizzle Inn, where the first one was served in 1932; so this Bailey’s Bay venue is a natural choice for those who want to sample the national drink of Bermuda.
The Rum Swizzle is feted in Bermuda each October with the Swizzle Fest, where a collective of local mixologists present their best traditional, unique, and innovative interpretations of this beloved beverage. On the water’s edge at Barr’s Park in Hamilton, top DJs and food vendors round out the scene.
Start your day off right with another triedand-true Bermuda tradition: the Sunday codfish breakfast. This hearty meal of salted codfish with a side of boiled potatoes and eggs, bacon, and onion cooked with stewed tomatoes and paired with slices of fresh banana and avocado gives you plenty of fuel for exploring and playing across Bermuda. In keeping with tradition, this dish is generally

EMBRACING TRADITION
THE BRITISH CUSTOM OF AFTERNOON TEA IS APPRECIATED BY MANY BERMUDIANS.
WHETHER YOU’RE A BRIT who simply can’t miss your custom of afternoon tea or an American who’s interested in experiencing this tradition for yourself, you’ll be pleased to know that there are plenty of venues in Bermuda where you can enjoy a cuppa with exquisite pairings.
For those unfamiliar with this tradition, afternoon tea is a late-afternoon event in which a light meal or snack — like finger sandwiches, scones, and pastries — are served alongside tea, which is presented in fine china teapots and cups. Beyond the benefit of bridging the gap between lunch and dinner, afternoon tea is a social event in which friends, family, or colleagues can relax together.
Afternoon tea etiquette is similar to that of an elegant meal. Those enjoying this custom should place their napkin in their lap and use provided utensils for cakes and other pastries. Scones may be split in half by hand before adding clotted cream and strawberry jam as desired, and finger sandwiches and other bite-size pastries should also be eaten by hand. While some tea sommeliers consider it sacrilege to add milk to your cup before pouring the tea, tea sommelier and manager of Hamilton Princess’s Duchess Café & Gelateria, Kiwana Spencer, says life is too short to put up a fuss over the order in which one pours their milk.
“One thing about afternoon tea is that it is your personal preference,” says Spencer. “Sip what you like, and taste everything to figure out what you enjoy the most. Whether you add the milk to the cup first or last is a subject that has divided tea lovers for generations, so you might as well do what makes you happy.”
“Afternoon tea is meant to be fun,” adds Hamilton Princess Crown & Anchor Manager Christopher Caco. “You can’t let the
etiquette get too much in the way of your own personal enjoyment.”
One thing afternoon tea hosts do take seriously in Bermuda is the tea blends they offer. The Crown & Anchor serves up unique selections meant to complement their food offerings, which alternate monthly for a fresh experience.
“Each offering is crafted to complement

our Fairmont exclusive LOT 35 loose leaf teas,” says Caco. “Unique tea selections include the Liza Hill Darjeeling, ‘the champagne of teas,’ so named for sweet, musty notes as well as its origins in the fertile Darjeeling region of the Indian Himalayas. The Rose Congou, Princess Diana’s favourite, is a blend of black teas from India and China layered five times with rose petals.”
Afternoon tea is served Monday through Saturday from 3 to 5 p.m. at Hamilton Princess’s Crown & Anchor restaurant, a relaxing venue with views of beautiful outdoor scenery and handpicked works of art adorning the walls. Mrs. Hayward from Sweet P offers afternoon tea on the grounds of The Lili Bermuda Perfumery at Stewart Hall in St. George’s every Wednesday and Saturday from 1 to 4 p.m. Reservations are required. The Clubhouse Bar & Lounge at The Reefs Resort & Club hosts afternoon tea daily from 4 to 5 p.m., and visitors can also enjoy afternoon tea at The Parlour in the historical Bridge House in the Town of St. George. The Ocean offers a renowned afternoon tea in quintessential old Bermuda charm at Willowbank Resort in Sandys on Saturdays from 2 to 4 p.m.
served only on Sundays; so be sure to clear your Sunday morning schedule to experience this hearty and flavourful breakfast. Try it at The Pink Beach at The Loren, White Horse Pub & Restaurant in St. George’s, The Ocean at Willowbank Resort, or at Aqua Terra, where their delicious spread has been named “best brunch in Bermuda.”
Indulge in a culinary delight at Fourways Inn, where their renowned Sunday brunch awaits. Housed within a charming 18thcentury Bermudian structure adorned with limestone walls, arches, cedar beams, and verdant gardens, the experience transcends mere dining — it’s a nostalgic journey through Bermuda’s rich history.
From the Sea
As one might expect from a small island in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean, seafood abounds in Bermuda. The spiny lobster, which differs from its Maine counterpart in that it doesn’t have claws, is harvested from September through March; so be sure to give it a try if your visit coincides with the season.
Delightful seafood dishes are served at Aurora at Newstead Belmont Hills Golf Resort & Spa, a seaside venue that won the “Best Seafood Restaurant” award two years in a row. Meanwhile, Harbourfront Restaurant’s menu showcases an assortment of the freshest catches from the sea, award-winning sushi, along with exceptional dry-aged meats, meticulously crafted salads, and irresistible desserts. Adjacent to the Bermuda Underwater Exploration Institute, its prime location offers guests picturesque views of Hamilton Harbour.
Lobster and seafood are also on offer at The Red Carpet, a local favourite that’s been serving delicious dishes for more than 40
years. For a more casual option, try Lost in the Triangle (LITT), where fresh fish is their staple served alongside traditional Bermudian side dishes.
Seafood is also celebrated at the annual St. George’s Seafood Festival, where local vendors serve up sea fare at this familyfriendly event.
Global Flavours
Geographically, Bermuda is barely a blip on the world map, but this small island goes big when it comes to international cuisine. Foods from around the world show up on menus here, from sushi and other Japanese foods to Indian, Italian, and Mediterranean cuisine.
Get your chicken tikka fix at House of India, where an extensive and authentic menu features all the classics like sag paneer, lamb vindaloo, and tandoori delights. Find Far East dishes at L’Oriental on Bermudiana Road. This restaurant’s master teppanyaki chef prepares your dishes right in front of you at the island’s only teppanyaki table, whilst the master sushi chef’s creations are fresh and inventive. You can find high-quality Chinese takeout at Wong’s Golden Dragon in the Town of St. George. Close to St. George’s, Achilles is a modern tavern that serves up authentic dishes

Looking for house-made pasta, wood-fired pizzas, and other Italian favourites? Check out La Trattoria in the heart of Hamilton, where you’ll find the island’s only wood-burning pizza oven. This venue is recognised as the best in Bermuda for its hearty Italian dishes, familyfriendly environment, and extraordinary value. Little Venice was the first Italian restaurant in Bermuda, and 50 years later, it’s still going strong thanks to its unparalleled hospitality, authentic cuisine, and award-winning wine list.
Find foods from around the world all under one roof at Speciality Inn, which serves Bermudian dishes, Italian pizzas, and Japanese sushi. Familiar comfort foods like ribs, steaks, burgers,
and salads are also on offer; so everyone is sure to find something good to eat here.
Coconut Rock is another venue with a varied menu that features local seafood, fish and chips, lamb sambal, and chimichangas. Pastas, ribeye steaks, and sushi round out the menu.
Find elements of Bermuda’s Portuguese heritage at The Front Yard, an outdoor venue in Hamilton with live music that offers authentic Portuguese flavours using traditional cooking methods.
Finally, you can pair shopping and dining under one roof at Washington Mall, where a wide variety of dining options suits all tastes and budgets.
Seaside Fare
Indulging in a meal with a breathtaking sea view is an essential part of the Bermuda dining experience. Whether it’s a casual beachside cafe or an upscale restaurant perched atop a cliff, you can pair your meal with a side of ocean view at numerous island restaurants.
Keep the sea in your sights at Aqua Terra, set atop limestone cliffs, and Coconuts, a romantic beachfront venue at The Reefs Resort & Club; Aurora at Newstead
Voted ‘Best Seafood Restaurant’ 2 years in a row, Aurora’s seasonal menu features fresh local seafood and produce from Bermuda’s best fisherman and farmers. We are committed to sourcing sustainable ingredients from local suppliers, ocean to table. We look forward to welcoming you to Aurora at Newstead Belmont Hills Golf Resort & Spa.
A TASTY TRIBUTE
A NEW OFFERING FROM GOSLINGS RUM, FLORA GOLD IS A TRIBUTE TO BERMUDA’S GOLDEN GIRL. NOT ONLY DOES IT TASTE GREAT, BUT KNOWING THAT PROCEEDS GO TO CHARITY MAKES EVERY SIP EVEN MORE SATISFYING.
WHEN FLORA DUFFY won a gold medal in the Women’s Individual Triathlon at the Tokyo 2021 Summer Olympics (rescheduled from 2020), she made Bermudian history. This marked the first time a Bermudian won gold and the second Olympic medal ever for Bermuda. Following this milestone, Duffy has gone on to even more athletic success. Born and raised in Bermuda, she earned her record fourth World Triathlon title in 2022 and plans to defend her Olympic title this summer in Paris. On October 18, 2021, Bermuda celebrated “Flora Duffy Day” in her honour.
A PERFECT PARTNERSHIP
When Goslings Rum, the oldest private business in Bermuda (established in 1806), first partnered with Duffy to work on a signature rum, it was the perfect pairing. The team at Goslings worked with her on everything — the blend of rums, the bottle, and even the label. The result was Flora Gold Rum, a spectacular blend of aged gold rums that is filled into once-used Goslings Family Reserve barrels for an additional two years of aging. It’s the perfect spirit to be enjoyed neat, on the rocks, or in a delicious cocktail such as the Golden Girl:
• 2 oz. Flora Gold Rum
• 4 oz. Sparkling Water
• Splash of Goslings Stormy Ginger Beer
Build in a highball glass filled with ice, then garnish with a lemon slice and fresh mint sprig.
GIVING BACK
The most important part of Duffy’s partnership with Goslings Rum, however, is the charitable component. The ultimate goal of the release was to celebrate Flora’s marvellous achievements and to give back to the local community with a donation on every bottle sold to the Flora Gold Fund.
Duffy created the Flora Gold Fund with the intention of giving back to the community that has done so much for her through the years. The organisation’s mission is to enable aspiring young athletes in Bermuda to achieve their full potential
by providing funding for equipment, travel, training fees, event registration fees, coaching, and more. Ultimately, the goal of the Flora Gold Fund is the development of the skills and attributes needed in young athletes to achieve excellence in sport.
Duffy believes this will have a positive impact throughout Bermuda and beyond and possibly lead to more incredible athletic achievements for Bermudian athletes in the future.

Resort Gastronomy
Gracious hospitality is an art form at Bermuda resorts, and that same welcoming warmth can be found at resort restaurants across the island. On-site restaurants display the same regal ambience as the resort at which they’re located, making for an elegant setting.
At The St. Regis Bermuda Resort, you’ll find two stellar dining options. BLT Steak NY boasts fine cuts of beef and an upscale cocktail menu in a contemporary setting with lovely ocean views, whilst Lina Restaurant’s breakfast and lunch menu is light and fresh, incorporating local ingredients prepared with a Latin twist.
Sol i Mar at Coco Reef Resort serves breakfast, lunch, and dinner, featuring international menu items infused with Bermudian flair. Floor-to-ceiling windows invite views of the ocean, and the staff is top-notch.
The Pink Beach Club at The Loren Hotel merges seasonal ingredients with a commitment to sustainable dining in a menu that draws from diverse cultures. From jazz nights to their esteemed guest chef series featuring many James Beard Award–winning chefs, you’ll enjoy the ultimate seaside dining experience.
For the finest in dry-aged prime cuts of beef, head to Intrepid Steak, Seafood & Raw Bar at the Hamilton Princess & Beach Club. The restaurant’s name pays homage to one of the hotel’s most prominent guests, Sir William Stephenson, a British intelligence agent whose code name was Intrepid. Diners rave about this venue’s incredible food and impeccable service.
With a focus on fresh, locally farmed, foraged, and fished ingredients, savour a delicious breakfast, lunch, or dinner at The Ocean at Willowbank Resort paired with your choice of wine or beer.

Seeking an extraordinary and unforgettable dining experience? Embark on the MV Excellence three-hour sunset dinner cruise, where you can savour exquisite cuisine and fine wines and dance to the rhythm of lively tunes — all whilst cruising through Hamilton Harbour and the Great Sound.
Bring your taste buds to life with Sense (Devils Isle Series), a blindfolded culinary journey in which a local storyteller weaves tales of Bermuda’s past whilst guiding you through a multicourse meal that invites diners to taste, feel, and delight in the flavours of the island.
Something Sweet
There’s no better time to treat yourself than when you’re on vacation. Ice cream, a vacation staple, can be found at many locations across the island. Nannini Häagen-Dazs Ice Cream Parlour in Royal Naval Dockyard has all the cool, sweet treats you could want, like ice creams, sorbets, frozen yoghurts, sundaes, and milkshakes. Also in Dockyard, you’ll find Duch Pops Bermuda, the island’s first homemade popsicle venture. The most iconic Bermuda confection is the Bermuda rum
cake. These moist, spirit-soaked Bundt cakes can be found at many locations throughout the island.
Quiet Night In
In need of a quiet night in? Let the food come to you with the Sargasso food delivery app. Contactless customer service is as easy as a few taps on your smartphone screen. Or elevate your stay with a customised menu crafted for you by a private chef through Crown Point Luxury Vacation Home Concierge.
HOLD THE MEAT
Following a vegan diet can be challenging whilst on vacation, but many Bermuda restaurants offer vegan options on their menus. In fact, the island recently celebrated this dietary choice with Vegan Fest, an event where vendors offered vegan delights and presentations on veganism, nutrition, and sustainability.
