WANT
Where I work: I am the co-owner of Glorietta and Glorietta Takeaway, both on Mount Street
My fave coffee spot is…Charlie & Franks. The team are super friendly and make great coffee. And of course I should mention that Glorietta Takeaway has pretty fab coffee too! When I grab brekky on the run, I’ll go to…Bourke Street Bakery. I’m a sucker for a great pain au chocolat and it just so happens that the Bourke Street Bakery is on my way to work. It’s very difficult to resist not buying one as I pass by.
My fave spot for a quick lunch is…Taruhachi Bento. It’s tucked away so even though it’s super popular I still feel like it’s a bit of a hidden gem in North Sydney. If I’m going for dinner I’d go to… Poetica or Loulou if I’m spoiling myself. I do love a good schnitty from the Firehouse too.
My fave thing to do to unwind after work is… reading wine lists! I love wine and going to places where the wine list tells a story and speaks of provenance and origin. Any unusual wine region tends to catch my eye.
Sometimes I’ll stay at Glorietta for a glass or I might browse the wine list at RAFI and order a light snack. My fave work break is…doing a loop of St Leonards Park. Or I might walk down to Milson Park or Wendy Whiteley’s Secret Garden. I spend quite a lot of time on the floor in Glorietta so I tend to get my step count done there! Occasionally there are musicians in Brett Whiteley Place and when the sun’s shining it’s a great spot to while away half an hour.
I love North Sydney because... in the five years I’ve been here, I’ve noticed a distinct camaraderie and community among those who work and live in the area. Familiar guests come back often and people will drop in to say hi. It’s a privilege to see this regularly and I’ve noticed it happens more often in North Sydney than it does in other areas. While the area is set to change with the Metro, I feel this aspect of the local community will expand as more people discover the upside of North Sydney.
