Congratulations students, staff, and families on completing a wonderful Term 1 at Northside Christian College. I have valued the opportunity to observe our students developing stronger connections with our College community. Likewise, it has been encouraging seeing students engage in a wide range of extra-curricular activities including camps, interschool sport, instrumental music, INSPiRE classes, incursions, prayer groups, and more. We thank God for these opportunities for our students to further engage in the life of the College.
As a College community, we have valued the chance to turn our attention to the true meaning of Easter. Easter is a special time where we can reflect on why we follow Jesus. May we continue to be guided by His Word and follow the example of Christ. Jesus provided us with the ultimate example of how to live our lives.
Our theme verse this year encourages us to follow God, our Creator and Shepherd.
“Know that the Lord is God. It is He who made us, and we are His; we are His people, the sheep of His pasture.”
Psalm 100:3
May we take time during the next few weeks to focus our attention on our why Jesus died for our sins. The Bible encourages us in Romans 8:37, “in all these things we are more than conquerors through Him who loved us.” As followers of Christ, we no longer have to fear death because, in Christ, we have the amazing promise of eternal life as a new creation with our Heavenly Father.
“
“As sheep of His pasture, let us continue to follow His example by being imitators of Christ.”
As sheep of His pasture, let us continue to follow His example by being imitators of Christ. Let us strengthen our relationship with Him by spending time in prayer and reflection.
“Whoever says he abides in Him ought to walk in the same way in which He walked.”
1 John 2:6
This Easter, let us remember the miracle of Jesus’ resurrection and His endless love for us. Matthew 28:5-6 reminds us of one of the greatest events in history when Jesus conquered death.
The angel said to the women, “Do not be afraid, for I know that you are looking for Jesus, who was crucified. He is not here; He has risen, just as He said. Come and see the place where He lay.
Matthew 28:5-6
May the miracle of Easter bring you renewed Faith, Hope and Love.
I look forward to seeing our students, staff, and families back on campus for the start of Term 2 on Monday 15th April 2024.
Working together,

On Wednesday 27th March, Northside celebrated Easter and Epilepsy Awareness Month by wearing purple. Students participated in a range of different activities, hosted by our Student Leaders, including a Gospel storythemed Scavenger Hunt, Egg Toss, Egg and Spoon races, Easter-themed Kahootz, and the creation of a beautiful chalk Cross Mural. It was a wonderful day of celebrating the death and resurrection of Jesus and the life that we have in Him.
Students raised a total of $255, which will go to Epilepsy Action Australia. This organisation provides assistance and advice, education and training, as well as understanding and awareness for those impacted by epilepsy.
Ms Christie Vaughn Primary TeacherIn Inquiry, we studied about wheat and learnt how wheat gets from the farm to our plates. Wheat gets made into flour at the mill. We used flour to make pancakes in class. We even poured and flipped our own pancakes. We got to eat them too. We ate them with maple syrup.
Northside student Gabriel in Year 6 has show amazing skill at the recent Victorian Kung Fu Showdown.
Gabriel competed in 4 different categories, placing on the podium for each.
He received 2x First Place Medals
1x Second Place Medal, and 1x Third Place Medal.
Well done, Gabriel!
Students enjoyed various activities such as canoeing, rope course, night walking, crate climbing, horse riding, and archery.
What is NAPLAN? NAPLAN is a series of tests you complete in Years 3, 5, 7 and 9. NAPLAN stands for National Assessment Program - Literacy and Numeracy. Everyone will do a NAPLAN test at some stage. The reason why you do NAPLAN is so that teachers, parents and schools can understand your skills and know what you need to work on. NAPLAN sample tests began in 2003 and NAPLAN tests started in 2008 .
One of the major differences from Year 5 NAPLAN and Year 3 NAPLAN is that in Year 3 you write your assessment on a piece of paper and in Year 5 you type it up digitally. The school provides sample NAPLAN tests for you to complete and gives you an understanding of how the website works and what to do. Students are also allowed to practise at home. I practised for NAPLAN at home and made good progress out of it. Preparing for the test isn’t that hard.
Other things you can do other than practising is to sleep well before the day so you’re wide awake, that will make sure you don’t sleep in class! You can eat well so you’re fed well in the morning and don’t get hungry. The benefit is that if you’re hungry you’ll focus on getting the test done and not check or think so be well fed!
My one big tip is to pray put your trust in God and know that God has a good plan for you. Jermiah 29:11 says “For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the LORD, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.” Another tip is to do your best on the day and put full effort in! My big tip is to pray during the middle of the test, pray you’ll get good reports and pray that you will concentrate hard.
I realised NAPLAN wasn’t so hard at all and it wasn’t a really big deal. I remember hearing the saying ‘Don’t judge a book by its cover!’ .
Anaia, Year 5Students in Year 8 travelled to The Summit and took part in a 2 night 3 day camping experience. Throughout the camp, students participated in several activities, including team challenges, obstacle courses, canoeing/kayaking, flying fox, rock climbing, human foosball, sky bridge walk, bush walking and movie night.
It was Pi day on 14th March. Can you work out why that day was chosen for International Pi Day? Ask a student in Years 6, 7, 8, or 9.
Students from Years 6 - 9 have been busy decorating and cutting (very carefully) pi shaped pieces to contribute to our Community Pi Tessellation Art piece. We’ll let you know when it is on display!

In Maths this term, Year 7 have been exploring God’s amazing world. We’ve completed a PowerPoint trip ‘around the world’ to places of various altitudes; mountain high and ocean deep. Students have enjoyed games of ROWCO, an integer card game that uses strategy and teamwork.

The Year 11 General Mathematics class explored coronavirus spread using counters, tiles, and unit cubes. It provided a compelling application of geometric sequences and enhanced problem-solving skills.
The modelling of virus spread with varying R-values corresponds to geometric sequences, where each term is a multiple of the previous one. The R-values, representing the rate of transmission, align with the common ratio in a geometric sequence. Each group started with a case zero - the first patient that was infected, and modelled the spread of coronavirus with R-values of 2, 3 and 5 respectively until their population has developed some immunity As students manipulated the counters and cubes, they visually grasped how the progression of infection mirrored the geometric sequence’s growth pattern.
Moreover, the visual display of manipulatives served as a powerful problem-solving tool. Students trialled a number of ways to arrange their counters, tiles and unit cubes as the virus started to infect more people than they could easily count. Stacking was quickly adopted by the groups and students realised the height of each stack was linked to each variant’s R-value. Through discussions, observations and conjectures, students were able to articulate the geometric sequence recurrence relation following this activity.
This hands-on approach bridged the gap between abstract mathematical concepts and real-world scenarios, fostering a deeper understanding of geometric sequences in the context of viral transmission.
Mrs Vida Wang Secondary TeacherOn Tuesday 26th March, some of the Year 11 and 12 boys competed in the interschool CSEN Basketball Rally Day. They successfully won two of the four games, losing two very tight games. We express our appreciation towards Mr Zammit for giving them the opportunity and coaching them throughout.
Our top three scorers of the games were Jovan, Hubert and Sharun, accumulating 28, 26 and 11 points respectively across all games.
Overall, we praise God for giving us His protection and strength to play well and thank Him that the event went safely
On Friday 15th March, we had the opportunity to represent Northside at the Secondary School CSEN Swimming Championships. It was an enjoyable experience, replete with moments of excitement and opportunities to forge new friendships. The relays were the highlight of our day- with our team’s cheering deafening among the stadium. We are so grateful to the Sports team for their sacrifice and guidance that allowed us to improve and achieve success on the day.
On Thursday 14th March, some of our Primary School students represented Northside at the Primary School CSEN Swimming Championships. The Primary School students succeded in winning the Division B category. Well done to our Primary School competitors. Their hard work, dedication, and spirit have truly paid off. Congratulations to all our swimmers for their outstanding achievements!
On 12th and 13th March, our College’s student leaders attended the 2024 Primary and Secondary Youth Leadership Conference, hosted by the Youth Leadership Academy Australia. This event provided a platform for our young leaders to gain insights, strategies, and inspiration from a diverse array of speakers, both local and international.
Throughout the conference, speakers shared firsthand leadership experiences and emphasised the importance of self-care in effective leadership. They underscored the symbiotic relationship between personal well-being and leadership success, resonating deeply with our students. A recurring theme highlighted the necessity for leaders to prioritise self-care, aligning with our Christian values of serving others. Just as a cup must be filled to pour out, leaders must fill themselves with energy, inspiration and the Holy Spirit to serve others effectively. The conference also explored the multifaceted nature of leadership, stressing the importance of adapting leadership styles to different contexts. Students learned about various roles, such as directive, peer, and supporter, and the wisdom required to utilise them effectively. A crucial lesson from the conference was the significance of stepping outside one’s comfort zone for personal and leadership growth. Embracing discomfort as an opportunity for development was encouraged among our students. Furthermore, the conference highlighted that frustration and passion can fuel inspiration and positive change within communities. Harnessing these empowers leaders to drive innovation and effect meaningful transformations.
As we reflect on the insights gained, let us continue nurturing and empowering our student leaders. Together, let us strive to embody servant leadership, guided by Christian values and fueled by the transformative power of the Holy Spirit.

Students can enter a written poem and/or make a video of themselves speaking or performing their words, bringing energy and conviction to their work.
You can choose your own topic, or explore our optional theme of ‘Awe’. Awe is the feeling we get in the presence of something vast that challenges our understanding of the world. Think of looking up at the starry night sky, alternatively it can be found in the everyday, watching the leaves of a tree change from green to red as Autumn arrives. Find out more about this year’s theme, Awe.

We are thrilled to share the remarkable experience our Year 9 girls had during their recent Sisterhood Day. This special event was a testament to the bonds of friendship, the pursuit of self-improvement, and the importance of wellbeing.
The day kicked off with a dynamic self-defence workshop facilitated by the experts from Self Defence Hub. Our girls learned invaluable techniques to defend themselves, empowering them with a newfound sense of confidence and strength. Witnessing their determination as they embraced the challenge and honed essential life skills was inspiring.
Following the self-defence session, the girls embarked on a serene well-being walk, providing a moment of reflection and connection with nature. As they strolled and engaged in meaningful conversations, they strengthened their relationships with each other and fostered a deeper connection with themselves.
Amidst the excitement, the girls delved into the world of dance with the talented Bessie from abunDANCE. Through rhythmic movements and expressive choreography, they not only discovered the joy of dance but also explored themes of self-expression and unity.
Throughout the day, our girls were taken out of their comfort zones, challenged to grow, and encouraged to embrace their unique strengths. Beyond acquiring practical skills, they experienced the power of sisterhood and the unwavering support of their peers. Moreover, they were reminded of the presence of God in their lives, finding identity and guidance in their faith. They touched on some of the challenges they feel. They were encouraged to be there for each other, to embrace and know how god sees them, rather than how social media tells them to be. Our girls want to feel valued for who they are and for those around them to treat them kindly. Please note the following article: https://ncc. vic.schooltv.me/newsletter-article/7196/147
In retrospect, Sisterhood Day was not just a series of activities but a transformative journey of self-discovery, and spiritual renewal. We are immensely proud of our Year 9 girls for their resilience, openness, and unwavering spirit. May the lessons learned and memories shared on this powerful day continue to inspire and uplift them in the days ahead.
