BAHIAN FOOD


MARIA MATA MOURO The grungy chaos of Pelourinho disappears as you step into the garden at this restaurant and sit down under the flowering frangipani tree. The cozy garden patio or classically set dining room are fine settings to enjoy one of Pel么's top menus. Among an excellent range of pastas, seafood, grilled meats and all the Bahian favorites, you'll find unique dishes like lamb in tamarind sauce and rich paella.

BARGAÇO A traditional restaurant that has its own clientele in Salvador serving the best of seafood, a few examples: shrimp, fried fish filet, stewed shrimp, codfish in polpetini (small balls) and side dishes of rice and “farofa” – a Brazilian dish made of a coarse manioc flour stir fried in butter until crisp, often mixed with other ingredients.

PARAISO TROPICAL House of 60000 square meters in Cabula which is a popular neighbourhood, a little bit distant from the Bahian touristic circuit. The restaurant has been awarded twice by the popular magazine VEJA SALVADOR "Comer & Beber". The owner has its own garden where cultivates more than 6000 species of vegetables and fruit. All of them are added to his typical Brazilian dishes giving a unique taste. Galinha Caipira and moquecas are highly recommended.

O COLISEU It is a pleasant place located in the heart of Pelourinho, with a delicious menu that has attracted several celebrities such as the ex president Luis Inรกcio Lula da Silva or the singer Ricky Martin. BOI PRETO GRILL Boi Preto has a tradition all of its own in Salvador, it is considered the best Gaucho Barbecue restaurant in town. A meal always starts with a complete buffet based on a wide selection of salads, hot and cold dishes. A buffet of desserts all of its own is another attraction. It is served more than 28 different cuts of beef, poultry and pork on skewers and warm from the pit is brought to the table and served to your order.

BARBACOA Basically an all you can eat salad bar with gauchos who come around several times with different cuts of meat and cut at your table. The meat is excellent which consisted of different cuts of beef, chicken, lamb and pork were all tasty and well flavored. The salad bar was also fresh and plentiful and offered the Brazilian staples of rice, beans, palmettos, yucca, fried banana, mandioca etc and a few others salads and accompaniments. FOGO DE CHAO Chain with eight houses in Brazil and sixteen in the United States. It is served seventeen kinds of meat at the most pure style Gaucho. The “Rodizio� consists on: Sirloin, rib premium, shoulder steak, skirt steak, steak and lamb. Also includes the salad bar, and trims such as polenta on the plate, potato and cottage cheese bread, which are brought to the table. The cellar has capacity for 8000 bottles.

CASA DA GAMBOA Casa da Gamboa, carrying an African name, is a restaurant in the heart of “Pelourinho” serving the best of Bahian cuisine – a mix of the African culinary delicacies brought by the slaves and the rich Portuguese cuisine, as well as the local Indians. The best dishes at Casa da Gamboa are those of seafood: the famous “Casquinha de Siri” (a type of crab souflée au gratin, served in its shell), grilled fish and shrimp on a skewer.

CONTEMPORARY CUISINE


AMADO Amado s cuisine comes from chef Edinho Engel, renowned for its Brazilian contemporary cuisine. It is located in an old cargo warehouse at Praia da Preguiรงa, at Cidade Baixa, with a breathtaking view over Bahia de Todos os Santos. The room is vast and gorgeous, mixing wood and stone and glass. Service is young, pretty, and efficient. The cuisine takes traditional Bahian ingredients -manioc and seafood principally - and puts them to use in innovate ways, always with lovely presentations. MAR NA BOCA New restaurant which is owned by an Spanish chef who applies cuisine from different Mediterranean countries. The restaurant is decorated with Mediterranean motives and painted in blue and white. The menu is a mix between Spanish and Bahian cuisine. Before serving the dishes, the chef usually surprises the customers with starters, it can be a small piece of bread stuffed with seafood. 496GRILL&BAR The restaurant has a nice location and glass walls that reveal the beautiful view of the Bay of All Saints. Tarquin Piglet takes care of grilled food, while the skilled José Sacramento – which received a vote of Chef of the Year by the jury VEJA SALVADOR "Eat & Drink" – prepares a more elaborated menu. The highlights are mushroom bruschetta among the starters and the yellow hake from seafood.

LA FAYETTE Restaurant with a wonderful view of the Bay of All Saints, located in the Marina. The atmosphere is also nice. Food is excellent with dishes well presented and carefully prepared. Good service, but sometimes slow.

ERCOLANO Opened in late 2010, the subsidiary in Bahia Marina has a nice space. The restaurant is composed by four rooms and the kitchen behind a glass. In the main hall you can follow the work of the team of chefs led by Dewey, who received a vote of Chef of the Year by the jury VEJA SALVADOR "Eat & Drink".

ITALIAN FOOD


MISTURA This charming restaurant with rustic dĂŠcor, has a balcony with pergola and a main hall with ceiling height of 6 feet. It is specialized in sea food, with very tasty Mediterranean and local dishes. It has as main course grilled fish and lobster. Each week, the chef Andrea Ribeiro incorporates new dishes to the menu. It has a good range of wines and very attentive client service. Although is far from the centre, is an excellent option for groups.

JAPANESE FOOD


SOHO This stylish Japanese restaurant with an impressive bay view (Bahia de todos los Santos), spreads succulent plates of sashimi, sushi and traditional Japanese fare. Awarded continuously since the first edition of VEJA SALVADOR "Eat & Drink", the house once again conquer the preference of the jury. Executives, politicians and celebrities frequent the place. Spacious hall, decorated in shades of blue navy, and the balcony overlooking the yachts.

OTHER


SOLAR CAFÉ Dine in unexpected style in the senzala (slave quarters) of an 18th-century sugar warehouse. Ironically, its position level with the bay affords fantastic views, reason enough to come for a drink or great Bahian food. The atmosphere heats up during the nightly folkloric show.
