Successful Joint Initiative Leads to Arrest of Seven in Park Royal Mall Shoplifting Blitz

In a remarkable display of cooperation and efficiency, a joint initiative by law enforcement agencies on the North Shore resulted in the arrest of seven individuals during a recent shoplifting blitz at Park Royal Mall in West Vancouver. This collaborative effort involved officers from North Vancouver RCMP, West Vancouver Police, and Metro Vancouver Transit Police coming together to tackle the issue of shoplifting in the area.

The operation, aptly named the "Shoplifter Blitz," took place on July 13 and spanned six hours of intensive law enforcement efforts. Officers, working alongside mall security, management, and Loss Prevention Officers, employed a variety of tactics to target known offenders and monitor individuals exhibiting suspicious behavior. This operation sent a strong message that criminal activity knows no municipal boundaries.

Cst. Mansoor Sahak of the North Vancouver RCMP emphasized the significance of joint operations like the shoplifting blitz, stating, "We routinely work with partner agencies in a joint operation, such as this shoplifting blitz, to target criminals who do not see municipal boundaries." This collaborative approach highlights the commitment of law enforcement agencies to keep the community safe and secure.

Cst. Nicole Braithwaite of the West Vancouver Police Department also commended the level of collaboration among police agencies on the North Shore. She noted, "This shoplifting blitz highlights the level of collaboration amongst Police agencies on the North Shore." Such teamwork is essential in addressing complex issues that affect the community.

Constable Amanda Steed of the Metro Vancouver Transit Police highlighted the importance of working closely with jurisdictional police partners. Transit Police not only focuses on ensuring the safety of transit passengers but also collaborates on projects to target criminals operating in and around transit hubs. The high number of arrests achieved during this operation serves as a testament to the success of this joint effort.

During the course of the day, law enforcement officers arrested seven individuals and seized stolen property with an estimated value of $2,500. The recovered property was promptly returned to its respective stores, demonstrating the effectiveness of the operation in curbing shoplifting.

This joint initiative not only resulted in the apprehension of several offenders but also sent a clear message that criminal behavior will not be tolerated in the North Shore community. It

serves as an excellent example of what can be achieved when multiple law enforcement agencies come together to address common issues.
