The Boardman Food Pantry and Community Garden is close to being ready for planting and community use. We anticipate to be ready approximately June 10th We apologize for being behind schedule this year. There are several reasons for this. Our person doing most of the preparation has been working many hours on this project, but he has also had to deal with some unexpected personal matters that have taken up much of his time.
Second, the garden area has expanded to cover the entire field area that is available to us. This has meant that the watering system needs to be redone to cover this larger area. In addition, the plots being designated for community use need to have individual access to water, which requires more lines being run to serve each plot.
We anticipate that we will have 20 spaces available for community use. If you have not yet contacted Shara Weiss (971-804-3398) about reserving a space, we still have some available. The good news is that what is being done this year will be enough to cover several years. So future years we will be able to open things up much sooner. We have a long growing season in Boardman, so there is still plenty of time to plant your favorite items. Thank you for your patience.
