MERCER, Mo. Mercer school board members received comments from a district parent and a former teacher, accepted two resignations and hired full- and part-time help, and rejected a member’s request to hold a closed session, during its Nov. 13 meeting. Superintendent Wade Hall has spoken with a parent who sent him a letter about the costs and number of fundraisers district groups hold every year. Hall told the board the parent
made some valid points about the matter. The district is working on a master calendar that will include all school fundraisers in the hopes of not having so many fundraisers being held at the same time. Also, the board received a letter from former teacher Nancy Claycomb. Contents from both letters, and the name of the writer of the letter about fundraisers, were not available. Employment matters The resignation of administrative Randi Girdner, effective Nov. 10, was approved. Minutes later, the board approved hiring Cameron McLain as Girdner’s replacement. Chamber holds ribbon cutting for new business

PRINCETON The city of Princeton will hold its annual start-of-winter citywide cleanup day next weekend (Dec. 1-3), after action taken by the City Council during its meeting last Monday night (Nov. 20). Rapid Removal, the city’s garbage removal provider, will be setting up two 40-yard rolloff containers during the afternoon of Friday, Dec. 1, and they’ll remain in place until Monday, Dec. 4. The City Council was to discuss the condition of the bandstand in the middle of the downtown square, but no one from the Princeton Chamber of Commerce appeared. Chamber president Amy Cool is to appear at the council’s next meeting (Monday, Dec. 11, 6 p.m.) to provide information.
Discussions • City superindendent Greg Goodknight reported that John Hart has concerns about a high water bill at Betty McQuerry’s property. He said her water bill for the November cycle (Sept. 15-Oct. 15) indicated usage of 50,000 gallons. The council suggested that Goodknight check the water meter when Hart could be present to make sure the water meter was working properly. • Councilman Tony Johnson brought up a situations at a vacant property on Casteel Street. He said there had been three loud explosions at the site, with gunshots fired on several occasions. Council members asked Goodknight to contact the sheriff’s office to find out who owns the property, and have officers check out the matter.
