COLUMBIA, Mo. --On November 9, U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) Rural Development and Missouri State Director Kyle Wilkens announced a $75,100 Community Facility Direct Grant to the City of Unionville. Rural Development’s investment will be used to purchase two bucket trucks, a maintenance truck, and attachments. “We often take things for granted when we have clean streets, working electricity, and running water, but it takes a lot of manpower and effort. If we don’t have proper equipment, these basic things in our lives can get interrupted,” Wilkens said. “USDA Rural Development is excited to partner with the City of Unionville to purchase equipment to make the city a better place to live, work, and enjoy their community.”

This equipment enables tree trimming to ensure the safe passage of vehicles on city streets, utility purposes, hauling material and debris, and many miscellaneous jobs essential to the citizens of Unionville. The city maintains its’ own streets, electricity, water, and sewer. This equipment is necessary to keep departments running safely and provide uninterrupted service to the residents of Unionville. The city is responsible for providing essential community services to the nearly 2,000 citizens of Unionville. Background: Community Facilities Programs The Community Facilities Direct Loan and Grant Program provides affordable financing and grants to public bodies, nonprofits, and federally recognized Tribes to build or improve schools, libraries, hospitals, fire

stations, and other essential community facilities for people in rural areas. An essential community facility is defined as a facility that provides an essential service to the local community for the orderly development of the community in a primarily rural area and does not include private, commercial, or business undertakings. This Community Facilities Direct Grant will help City of Unionville to maintain the beauty of Unionville. (JEFFERSON CITY, MO) – Today, Governor Mike Parson signed Executive Order 23-09 closing state offices on Friday, November 24, 2022, the day after the Thanksgiving Day holiday. “The First Lady and I are looking forward to spending the holidays with our family back home on our farm in Bolivar, especially as we recently welcomed our first great-grandchild,” Governor Parson said. “Friends, family, and the next generations are what it’s all about. We hope this well-earned day off allows state team members to spend more time with their loved ones and reflect on all that they do in service to our state. Thanks to the work they do each and every day, our economy is strong, our state is strong, and Missourians are strong. From our families to yours, Happy Thanksgiving!” ~~~ “Courage doesn’t always roar. Sometimes courage is the quiet voice at the end of the day saying, ‘I will try again tomorrow.’” -- Mary Anne Radmacher ~~~
