City Departments Receive Risk Management Grants from MIRMA

Kassie and Ben Wilson, Goldpine will perform at the Bixler 108 Listening Room Friday, November 10. Nashville returns to Unionville on Friday, November 10, when Ben and Kassie Wilson of “Goldpine,” and Aaron English team up for a show at the Bixler 108 Listening Room. Ben and Kassie, based in Nashville, meld country, Southern soul and gospel with folk-rock with bold harmonies and strong acoustic guitar into a sound that can only be described as “Southern-Soul and Curious-Grit”. Ben grew up in Oskaloosa, IA, and Kassie grew up in Alabama. They crossed paths at a startup church meeting in Nashville in 2008 where they were each pursuing their own music careers. A relationship soon bloomed and blossomed into a marriage, but they did not decide to perform and tour together until 2017. Since then, they perform in Nashville and are regularly touring throughout America. This will be their fourth appearance with The Bixler and are one of the audience’s favorites. Many will remember them as the Bixler Artists in Residence at the 2022

Putnam County Fair. Aaron English is also a Nashville singer songwriter and extremely talented piano man, who blends rock and folk with the traditional music of many different cultures. A world traveler, English’s soul-searching songs are sophisticated, cinematic and filled with echoes of his travels through Africa and the Middle East. His eight self-released albums and EPs have drawn comparisons to Peter Gabriel, James Blunt, David Gray, Sting, Robert Plant and Paul Simon. This will be Aaron’s second appearance at the Bixler. It should be his third, but car problems prevented him from getting here last year. All three of these artists are investing in the future of young people worldwide. In 2015 English founded the International Youth Music Project, a non-profit that helps build and support music programs for disadvantaged youth around the world, par-

Mayor Charley Bill Pittman called the regularly scheduled meeting of the Unionville City Council to order at 5:30 PM on Thursday, November 2, 2023, with all aldermen [Gary Davis, Kellie Purdy, Eric Lutz, Jason Hill] in attendance. Kelly Beets with MIRMA presented risk management grants to the Water/Wastewater and the Electric departments. The Water/ Wastewater Department received $5,106 for a sewer camera, $672 for a manhole lifter and $3,300 for a valve exerciser. The Electric Department received $561 for a ground rod driver. Beets told the council that MIRMA has close to 100 member municipalities. Following presentation of the plaque to Shawn Caley and T. J. Payne, Beets fielded additional questions from the council. As the council reviewed the Consent Agenda, which includes approval of bills submit-

ted, Mayor Pittman reported that while he had no problem with the plaster work at McCalment, he was not pleased with the tuck pointing and that not all of the interior painting was complete. Following discussion and clarification, Purdy motioned to approve the Consent Agenda. Lutz seconded the motion, which passed 4-0. Payne reported that the Water/Wastewater Department had finished the park project. This was discussed. Caley reported that the Electric Department had changed out a pole at the school, had been cutting trees, working on the electric at the park and weather permitting would begin putting up Christmas decorations next week. Mayor Pittman reported that five loads of brick from the Skelgas building had been removed and there were orders for more. He added that a record of who was getting the bricks, where

they were going and for what purpose was being kept. With no Old Business, the council moved to New Business. The Lead Service Inventory Bids was the first item. Seven bids were opened, reviewed and discussed. Only three bids had a total dollar amount and only two guaranteed not to exceed the bid amount. The selection of a provider was tabled, and every bidder will be contacted for total amounts or clarification. This project will be funded through a $200,000 DNR grant. On November 9, a Community Development Grant Event will be held at 10 AM by the new building at the Power Plant. At 6:20, Purdy motioned to enter closed session following a seven-minute break as per RSMo 610.021 (1) Legal actions, … . Lutz seconded the motion, which passed 4-0.
