Ertels Describe Life in Alaska at Unionville Rotary Meeting Nashville musician Buddy Mondlock will make his first appearance as a performer at the Bixler 108 Listening Room on Saturday, October 21. Submitted by Tom Keedy The stream of musicians from Nashville to The Bixler 108 Listening Room continues on Saturday, October 21 when Buddy Mondlock makes his first trip to Unionville. When Buddy’s not on the road you can find him in Nashville, but he grew up in Park Forest, Illinois, a suburb of Chicago. He got his first guitar when he was ten and and soon was singing Crosby, Stills and Nash songs with his sisters. After a few years away for college he started playing open mics in Chicago. When Buddy made his first trip to Texas, Guy Clark heard him singing one of his songs under a tree at the Kerrville Folk Festival and liked it. So Guy went back to Nashville, opened the door and said, “listen to this kid, he’s good!” A publishing deal and a U-Haul headed to Nashville soon followed. People started paying attention and he started some writing with another new kid in town, Garth Brooks. Garth became a star and Buddy’s song “Every Now and Then” ended up on Garth’s album “The Chase.” Other artists that have recorded songs written by Mondlock include Janis Ian, Joan Baez, Nancy Griffith, Peter Paul and
Mary, and Art Garfunkel. In addition to writing and performing in Nashville, Buddy regularly tours all over the U.S. and Europe, including a tour with Art Garfunkel. And when he is not on the road he has released a string of critically acclaimed solo recordings and albums. In recent years Buddy has been writing songs with military veterans through a program sponsored by an organization called Music Therapy of the Rockies and he includes several of those songs in his shows (and one on his new album). “We are proud to introduce Buddy Mondlock to Unionville and the Bixler 108 audience”, said Tom Keedy, who operates the Bixler. “Our audience is in for a powerful experience.” “Mondlock’s songs are like movies you want to see again. He starts with the same world we all see and hear, but he transforms the sights and sounds into revelations that delight and melodies that linger.” Ed Morris Billboard Magazine Mondlock will be performing at the Bixler on Saturday, October 21 at 7:00 pm. There is no

Missouri State Treasurer Vivek Malek Announces Two Week Extension of Farm Relief Loan Program JEFFERSON CITY, MO – Following the news coming from Governor Parson’s Drought Assessment Committee, State Treasurer Vivek Malek announced he is keeping his office’s Farm Relief Loan Program open through October. The new deadline is October 31st. The Farm Relief Loan program was created to prioritize low interest loans through the MOBUCK$ program for farmers and ranchers affected by drought. “Agriculture is the most important industry in Missouri. I’m proud to
continue helping farmers deal with drought and crippling inflation with the Farm Relief Loan program.” Beginning on August 17, 2023, the State Treasurer’s Office started accepting applications for Farm Relief Loan program loans. Using the Farm Relief Loan program allows lenders to lower the interest rates to the borrower by about 2-3 percent. Malek added “Missouri’s farmers and ranchers have been hit with so much, but they get right back up and
keep feeding the world. That’s why I’m encouraged to see such demand for our Farm Relief Loan program.” Since the program opened mid-August, the State Treasurer’s Office has approved $29,210,000 in loans to help farmers get low-cost operating loans. Loans are capped at $1M per borrower. Anyone interested in applying should consult their lender or contact the State Treasurer’s Office at (573) 751-9443 or mobucks. mo.gov.
