City Council Reviews Airport Feasibility Study

The Unionville City Council was called to order on Thursday, December 28, 2023, by Mayor Charley Bill Pittman with all aldermen [Gary Davis, Kellie Purdy, Eric Lutz and Jason Hill] in attendance. Jerald Searle presented the airport feasibility study to the council. Searle gave an in-depth presentation and fielded questions from the council. Lutz motioned to approve the consent agenda. Purdy seconded the motion, which passed 4-0. In Old Business, no bids were received for painting McCalment gym. Mayor Pittman explained that the two par-

ties interested in bidding had examined the interior and found the east wall couldn’t be painted in its current state. In discussion, the council determined that the best alternative for the wall would be to spray foam the east wall and then coat it with poly. Two new bids will be put out. Mayor Pittman reported on the doors for McCalment. All will be lockable with the basement door equipped with a deadbolt. Davis reported that he had fielded further inquiry about the sale of the old rearing pond at Lake Mahoney. The council discussed the matter and tabled it until the City Attorney can be consult-

ed. Davis also reported that he had spoken with the Conservation Department regarding Lake Mahoney and the plans for the pier and handicapped fishing dock and new restroom was not going to happen unless the city gets a grant. In New Business, the contract for the Lead Line Inventory was tabled. At 7:16, Purdy motioned to enter closed session as per RSMo 610.021 (3) Hiring, firing, disciplining or promoting of particular employees …. Following a seven-minute break. Lutz seconded the motion, which passed 4-0.

OATS Transit’s regional office in St. Joseph, MO, has announced a fare change for residents in Northwest Missouri. Effective February 1, 2024, fares for rural service will increase to $2 each way. Rider fares help us maintain current levels of service and directly impact the company’s operating budget. Fares are being standardized at $2.00 per one-way ride regardless of origin or destination. We are doing away with each area having a different fare structure, and instead all 18 counties listed will have the same fare structure: Andrew, Atchison, Buchanan, Caldwell, Clinton, Daviess, DeKalb, Gentry, Grundy, Harrison, Holt, Linn, Livingston, Mercer, Nodaway, Putnam, Sullivan and Worth counties in Missouri. As a reminder, drivers do not handle cash payments from riders. Instead, riders can add funds to their account in advance, and fares are withdrawn each time a rider boards the bus. Riders can add funds to their account, which requires a minimum of $10 each time. Residents wanting to schedule rides should call the local office at 816-2793131 or 800-831-9219.
