Clerk Carson Lamb officially swore in the new members of North Huron Township Council on Monday evening, welcoming two new and five returning members to the council table, followed by council electing Kevin Falconer as its new Deputy-Reeve. Reeve Paul Heffer, who was a councillor in the last term, was sworn in first. Councillors Falconer and Ric McBurney of Blyth were acclaimed, while Councillors Anita van Hittersum and Chris Palmer of East Wawanosh were both re-elected. The Wingham Ward is now represented by two new councillors: Mitch Wright and Lonnie Whitfield. After being sworn in, council elected Falconer as the municipality’s new deputy-reeve. Falconer beat out Palmer for the position with Van Hittersum also running, but being eliminated by chance. Lamb explained the vote was a ranked one, meaning that votes would be held until a single candidate had the support of a majority of council members, or four or more votes. The first vote saw Falconer vote for himself alongside McBurney and Whitfield, while van Hittersum voted for herself Continued on page 3
U11 Crusaders head to Silver Stick tournament By Denny Scott The Citizen The U11 Blyth Brussels Rep Crusaders will be taking part in the Regional Silver Stick Tournament in Wingham starting this weekend, while the U18 Local League Crusaders will be participating in a one-day tournament in Arthur on Sunday. The U18 Local League Crusaders will start off the tournament with a
game against the Beeton Stingers at 9 a.m., while the schedule for the U11 Rep Crusaders was unavailable as of press time. Other Blyth Brussels Crusaders action this week has the U11 Local League Burgundy squad hosting the Wingham Ironmen Blue at the Brussels, Morris and Grey Community Centre on Nov. 25. On Nov. 26, the U21 Crusaders are on the road to take on Ingersoll at 6 a.m., while the U7 Burgundy
Crusaders travel to Wingham for a game at 10:15 a.m. The U9 Crusaders will host the Central Perth Predators 2 team in Blyth at 10:30 a.m. while the U7 Black Crusaders will host the Wallace Sabres at 11 a.m. in Brussels. The U13 Rep Crusaders will take on the West Grey Warriors in Durham at 11:30 a.m. while the U13 Local League will host the Kincardine Kinucks MicroAge 1
squad at noon in Brussels. The U15 Local League Crusaders will then host Listowel in Brussels at 3 p.m. On Sunday, Nov. 27, the U8 Black Crusaders will host the Zurich Thunder in Blyth at 3 p.m. using half the ice pad, while the other half has the U8 Burgundy Crusaders hosting Huron-Bruce. The U11 Black Crusaders will host the Central Perth Predators in Blyth at 4 p.m. on Nov. 27, while the U21 Crusaders will travel to
Ripley to take on the Huron-Bruce Blizzard at 4 p.m. The U13 Local League Crusaders are also on the road that day, taking on the Goderich Sailors at 5:30 p.m. On Monday, Nov. 28, the U18 Rep Crusaders will host the TCDMHA Rebels in Blyth at 9 p.m. On Tuesday, Nov. 29, the U15 Rep Crusaders will host the Rebels in Brussels at 7 p.m., followed by the U18 Local League hosting the Continued on page 8
