Two die in CH marine incident

Pop up On the opening night of the Musical Muskrat Festival in Wingham, making its return for the first time since 2019, there was some non-musical action for those so inclined, as the Wingham Hitmen took on the Wroxeter

Rippers in Huron County Fastball League action. It turned out to be a good night for Wingham, as the home team shut out the visitors by a score of 2-0. For more Musical Muskrat Festival, see page 2. (John Stephenson photo)

Members of the Huron County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), Huron County Paramedic Services, and Bluewater Fire Services responded to a fatal marine incident on June 10 north of Bayfield. On June 10, at approximately 2:20 p.m., Huron OPP responded to a beachfront address just north of Bayfield in the Municipality of Central Huron for an incident involving a pleasure craft operator in distress. When police arrived, Huron County Emergency Medical Services (EMS) and Bluewater Fire Services personnel were performing life-saving measures on an individual who had been brought to shore. A 32-year-old Bluewater resident was pronounced deceased at the scene. While assisting at the marine emergency, a 46-year-old volunteer from Bluewater experienced a medical emergency and was transported immediately to the Alexandra Marine and General Hospital in Goderich, where they were later pronounced deceased. The causes of the tragic deaths have yet to be determined, however post-mortem examinations have been scheduled for both.
