Kick-off the new year in
Downtown Walnut Creek! By Kathy Hemmenway, Walnut Creek Downtown
Y
our local businesses rely on your support year-round and now that the holiday rush has passed, residents can enjoy Walnut Creek’s downtown restaurants, retailers or services. Winter 2019 brought the arrival of a few new restaurants including: Bierhaus (Locust St.), Burger Loft (N. Main St.), Tacos Walnut Creek (Locust St.) and Capullo Cocina Mexicana (Bonanza St.) to name a few – stop by and discover a new favorite! New retailers include Shoes on Solano (N. Main St.), Maximillian (Locust St.), and Forevermark (Broadway Plaza) while The Red Box (N. Main St.) moved 2 doors down to a beautiful new location! De-stress from the holidays and make an appointment at one of the luxurious
downtown spas/salons for a special postholiday treat for you and yours. If you’re working from home and need a change of scenery, check out Industrious, Broadway Plaza’s new co-working space which opens in late January. Parking is convenient in one of the downtown garages (City garages are free for the 1st hour) or utilize one of the purple poles, $1/ hour parking meters (up to 10 hours) located in the downtown perimeter. Be sure to try out the ParkMobile App – you’ll be thrilled with the convenience! Download the App to pay for parking, receive a notification when your time is running out, and extend your time without returning to the meter. We look forward to seeing you downtown!
Northgate Football
Northgate High School
By Zack Torrey, Northgate Football
I
t was a bounce back season for the Bronco Football team in 2019. After a brutal schedule and some injuries in 2018, Northgate Football worked hard in the off season and put together a winning overall season with a record of 6 - 4. They also had a winning league record of 3 - 2. Led by Senior Captains Jackson Malakoff, Eric Prough, Nathan Wu and Max Berrien, the Broncos generated multiple blowout wins including strong road victories at Hercules, Hugg High in Reno, and Ygnacio Valley. Dominic Balastieri and Cooper Champion lead the powerful offensive and defensive lines with excellent year long efforts from Josh Moorhouse, Isaac Owen and Tyler Johnson among others. Jonathan Campbell was a punishing runner on offense with Mikey Mainer and Spencer Hagerstrand serving as very reliable receivers for Malakoff. The defense was lead by Prough and saw lock-down pass coverage from Shane Kaiper as well as strong linebacker work from Dennis Bayasgalan and Andrew Daigle. Unfortunately with the North Coast Championship format going back to 8 team brackets for each division, the Broncos fell just short of making the playoffs for Division 3.
who will undoubtedly be the Senior leaders through the off season program and into the 2020 campaign. Look for another strong team to take the field next year!”
Nonetheless the season was a massive success and showed that Bronco Football is back to its’ winning ways. The future is bright for the football team as they return a large group of battle tested Juniors
