f you are looking for a volunteer opportunity that supports both your community and your library, please consider volunteering for Contra Costa County Library’s Books for the Homebound. Not every member of our community is able to come to the library. For those community members whose disabilities make it difficult (if not impossible) to visit our libraries, the Contra Costa County Library offers the free, volunteer driven service, “Books for the Homebound.” We are always looking for volunteers to contribute. The service matches volunteers with homebound library patrons living in their neighborhood. The volunteers contact the homebound patrons to find out what library materials they want, deliver the library materials, and then return the library materials once the patrons are finished with them. For patrons who are blind or have vision impairments, Books for the Homebound volunteers also facilitate the delivery of resources from the State Library’s “Braille and Talking Book Library” program. There are a few requirements. You must be at least 18 years of age and have a valid California driver’s license, provide proof of insurance, and have access to an automobile.
