Northgate High School
Leadership class at Northgate
offers opportunities to grow By Dylan Giesecke, Resident since 2013, Sophomore at Northgate High School

eing involved in Northgate Leadership is a decision I am glad to have made. I’ve been involved with Leadership programs since 5th grade. I’ve always been motivated to do leadership or similar programs for the many positives that they offer, as well as the constant inspiration and encouragement from my mom. From involving yourself in the community to getting a better outlook on life, the experiences that I’ve gotten to participate in have made me better as a person. There is so much positivity that comes with the Leadership Class; you always feel welcomed when you walk through that door. One of the best benefits is the opportunity to volunteer at events with your friends, like the walk for St. Jude at the San Francisco Zoo. Another meaningful one would be going down to Glide in San Francisco to help out at the soup kitchens. Even if this doesn’t intrigue you, what has motivated me most is the opportunities to put myself out there, to push out of my comfort zone. In Leadership class we have many opportunities to plan our own events, to meet new people, to give speeches, to make an impact in our community. This past year here are a few of the events from our leadership team: •
Jude’s Walk in SF
•
Donate to Dump: leadership coordinated a dumpster in the school parking lot for the community to drop off their items to be disposed of
•
Setting up for the Homecoming Dance and event
•
Promoting Fundraisers for our school events (which are decided by the students)
•
Lip sync entertainment during school wide rallies
•
Attended an annual leadership conference in Disneyland
•
The Concord Exchange (an event to exchange ideas with other leadership classes within the district where we learn about how we can remove biases and promote inclusivity.
In summary, Leadership gives you a lot of wonderful and fun opportunities to engage with the community and people around you. It’s an experience that can give you a new perspective and help you make an impact on the world. It is a bonding class with lots of positivity, and I look forward to the years to come.
