This event is for YOU!
Dear parents and students,
We know it seems early to be thinking about what you want to do after high school, but believe it or not, now is the time! Worlds of Work will give you hands-on experiences in 19 different industries that have great jobs and career paths for you right here in North Florida.
Our local employers are excited to meet their future workforce and introduce them to amazing opportunities to make a great living while making a difference in their community, families, and lives.
What do you need to do to get ready? Not much! Your teacher will help you explore Xello, your online college and career navigation platform, where you can take fun quizzes to find out more about what types of careers you might enjoy. From there, you can make sure to seek out employers and jobs in those areas when you attend WOW in October. If you find yourself in worlds that are unfamiliar to you, then you have met our goal. We want you to explore and experience new jobs now, so you have time to prepare for them throughout your high school career.
Most importantly, open your mind to the possibilities that are available to you right here in North Florida. Ask great questions. Look around you. Begin exploring beyond WOW and you will find we live in a region rich with opportunity.
We look forward to seeing you at the Worlds of Work! Until then, check out the Worlds of Work website (www.northfloridaworldsofwork.com), take a few quizzes to find your interests and explore work-based learning opportunities (www.Xello.world), and explore local careers and education pathways (www.TLHtalent.com).
Until then!

Do you enjoy working outdoors?
Do you like working with various kinds of tools and machinery?
Do you get satisfaction from building something with your own hands?
What comes to mind when you think of construction? Giant cranes and cement trucks? Those are only small pieces of the vast world of construction! Some careers in this field involve skilled trades that can be learned on the job. Others may require certificates that can be earned at Lively Technical College or Tallahassee State College. These positions can range from plumbing and electrical work to solar installation and cabinetmaking. If you find yourself interested in project planning or design, you might consider architecture or project management, which are careers that do require a college education and a degree. If you enjoy hands-on activities and problem solving, this may be the field for you.

If you like the idea of having a positive impact on the future of others, consider a career in education and training. Having strong leaders to work in this field is vital to the success of our children and community as a whole! To teach Pre-K through 12th grades in Florida, you must complete an approved teacher education program, which does require a bachelor’s degree. To teach at the university level usually requires a Ph.D. If you like the idea of education but the classroom isn’t the place for you, other careers include media specialist, guidance counselor, or bus driver.

Imagine life without lights, clean water, or the internet—it’s the work of energy and utility professionals that keeps our world running. This vital industry delivers the electricity that powers our homes, keeps our water clean and flowing, and ensures we stay connected every day. If sitting at a desk isn’t your style, this field offers hands-on, high-impact careers where you can work outdoors and make a difference. Jobs like lineworkers, gas distribution technicians, water plant operators, and utility service workers typically require just a high school diploma along with on-the-job training or apprenticeships. Prefer technology and control systems? Consider becoming a SCADA technician or substation technician—roles that support critical infrastructure and require strong technical skills. Whether you’re working on the front lines or behind the scenes, there’s a path for everyone in energy and utilities. These are stable, essential careers with room to grow—and they’re in high demand across our region.
Do you enjoy doing work knowing it will help people around you?
Do you excel in math and science?
Do you like to design or draw?
Engineers design the world around us to make sure things are built in the safest and most effective way possible. Science and engineering careers are some of the most highly educated roles, usually requiring at least a bachelor’s degree, and professional engineers must have a state license to practice. There are some positions that do not require a degree, such as survey and map technician or architectural drafter. There are many types of engineering, such as mechanical, civil, chemical, and industrial, that are working to design and plan things before a hammer even touches a nail! Working as an engineer, you could find yourself in a laboratory, an industrial facility, or even a deep ocean.

Are you passionate about caring for others?
Are you interested in the inner workings of the human (or animal) body?
Is helping people a passion of yours? Healthcare might be the field for you! This massive industry offers countless career paths, with a wide range of education requirements and work environments—far beyond just doctors and nurses in hospitals. Healthcare work can be in a laboratory, nursing home, pharmacy, or places you might not expect, like an athletic field! Many paths don’t require a degree higher than a high school diploma or GED, although you typically still need some training and certification, such as to become a phlebotomist, pharmacy technician, paramedic, or dental hygienist. You can also pursue a bachelor’s, master’s, or even doctorate in many of the healthcare fields including nursing, nutrition, audiology, and veterinary medicine. There are endless possibilities in the world of healthcare!

There are career options available in this field at every level of educational background. Entry-level positions, such as hotel receptionist, restaurant cook, or housekeeper usually require only a high school diploma or GED. Are you a problem solver?
Have you ever taken something apart just to see how it works? Do you love DIY projects? Look into the world of manufacturing to get in-the-know on the way things work. If you’re more interested in big-picture projects, logistics may be for you! Many careers in this world require only some training after receiving a high school diploma, such as metal fabricator, CNC operator, or millwright. Other careers such as an industrial engineer or mechatronics engineer require a bachelor’s or master’s degree. You can usually find yourself in a factory or production plant in these roles; however, you could also pursue a career in transportation like aviation or a CDL truck driver and find yourself out on the open road.

Do you like to stay up to date on the latest technology trends?
Are you interested in designing your own software or apps?
Technology is constantly changing and growing, and to keep up with it, careers in this world are always in high demand. If you have an interest in internet security, coding, or building websites, this could be the world for you! You could work for a tech company developing software, or be the database administrator in the IT department of a non-tech company ensuring their systems run smoothly. With these and most technology careers you will likely find your work environment to be an office space, but don’t think that means it is not exciting! There is always going to be something new in technology and you need to have a fast-paced and adaptive work ethic to keep up. Most skills in this world can be learned through certification and training programs, but there are many educational paths you can take to pursue a career in technology. Most employers will ask for an associate or bachelor’s degree but will accept candidates with equivalent skill and experience levels.

The purpose of North Florida Worlds of Work and its associated programs is to create awareness of the many high-demand, high-wage job opportunities that exist in North Florida early enough in high school that students may plan their pathway and graduate with a plan in place and well on their way to college or career.
Worlds of Work is a hands-on career expo that brings to life ten worlds representing 18 different industries that have great jobs and career paths right here in North Florida. Through hands-on activities, over 3,000 9th grade students are exposed to 100+ career options early in their high school careers so that they can plan the courses and extracurricular activities that match their career interests.
Community WOW is an afternoon of hands-on career exploration where students, families, and job seekers can connect directly with industry leaders across North Florida. Attendees will not only experience interactive exhibits from more than 100 regional employers, but also have the chance to participate in on-site interviews for part-time, full-time, and internship positions.
WOW Jobs connects local employers with high school seniors interested in entering the workforce following graduation. Students interview with employers at the event and have the potential to receive multiple conditional job offers on the spot! The event is followed up with a Signing Day to celebrate successful matches.
The Educator Workforce Academy is a year-long training program for educators, exposing them to workforce development and our region’s industries. The year-long program is designed to eliminate the disconnection between industry and education, giving our region’s students the best chance possible for success.
