Wellness for the community is the driving vision of Foundation 1 which has established an op shop and community pantry on the old Wicked shop site in Mawson Lakes.

Foundation 1 is a not-for-profit, faith-based ministry established in South Australia in 2018 offering care to people in need. As well as the new shop in Mawson Lakes there is one in Parafield and another at Mt Barker.

Mawson Lakes manager, Kim Buckley, (pictured) said she opened last year and the response has been good, but we have a large space to fill and we ask community members to donate quality items to resell. This includes furniture, homewares, kitchen ware, books, music and no-longerneeded children’s things. “Maybe you have some clothing, jewellery or shoes that are taking up too much space in your wardrobe; we would love to receive them. If you are downsizing or cleaning out the house please think of us. We can collect.

Kim says that everybody in Foundation 1 works as a volunteer, herself included, and they always welcome volunteer helpers, even for a few hours. Work includes attending to the front counter, filling shelves, sorting and tidying. “It’s a great way to meet people and help others,” she said. ED
