UNIVERSITY SENIOR COLLEGE STUDENT SUCCEEDS FROM MAWSON LAKES

Year 12 University Senior College student, Hania Haider, joined the USC community as a Year 11 student in 2019. Hania has just completed her SACE Certificate in 2020 and achieved an amazing 99.1 ATAR as well as a Merit in Biology. Hania is very excited as she will be studying Nuclear Medicine at University of South Australia.

Due to the constant challenges of COVID-19 Hania found Year 12 difficult. USC provided Hania with a safe space and she found her learning environment at USC a great place to be. Hania said the support from her teachers and peers helped her stay focused and motivated to keep going, so she could achieve what she wanted.

Hania said COVID -19 taught her many things. “I learnt to manage my time, prioritize connections and realized the importance of staying in touch with my teachers and peers.

“It is vital to stay focused and not lose sight of the end goal. I kept telling myself it is only one year and it is important to keep my perspective,” Hania said.

Hania valued the strong culture of learning at USC and admired the dedication of her caring teachers. “All students who attend USC have chosen to be here and there is a deep mutual respect among both the staff and students, who are willing to give you guidance in a supportive adult learning environment,” said Hania. Hania credits USC for her success in Year 12 and for getting into her desired university course, a Degree in Nuclear Medicine. USC has taught her to be adaptable and resilient. During Year 12 Hania learnt to bounce back when she got knocked down and remained positive with the support of the strong learning environment at USC.

Hania said, “USC provides you with a very safe bubble with a team of people looking after you. I couldn’t have asked for anymore and I considered myself to be very fortunate to be part of such an amazing environment. ”

Hania is very passionate about her course in Nuclear Medicine. She is interested in helping people in the area of cancer and oncology. She hopes to one day get into Cancer Research and complete her PHD while working as a practitioner in this area.

When Hania was asked what one word she would use to describe her time a USC. She replied, “Inspired.”

“Going to USC was the best decision I ever made. USC motivated me to be the best I could be. It was definitely the push I needed and there is so much support on offer.”

Hania travelled every day to the city from Mawson Lakes and says it was so easy to get to USC because the public transport from Mawson Lakes is very good.
