VIVIANE JOHNSON Lich, Germany MAJOR: Psychology

When VIVIANE JOHNSON, a psychology student, was ready to transfer to Northern Kentucky University from Gateway Community and Technical College, she was nervous. “The process can be a little intimidating to start from scratch and establish new relationships— professionally and personally,” she says. But the Lich, Germany, native felt NKU was the perfect place for her to finish her degree. “With almost a year under my belt here at NKU, I know that I made the right decision to transfer to this university and advance my education,” she says. “The road to getting here wasn’t always easy, and I had to make sacrifices. Ultimately, I wouldn’t change my path.” 6

Taking the leap helped Viviane get closer to her dream: becoming a clinical mental health counselor. She eventually hopes to receive her master’s degree at NKU so she can become a licensed psychologist. There’s no doubt Viviane is getting the experience she needs to succeed. She has performed supervised research with a psychology professor, created a manuscript for an academic journal and interned at local agencies, including the Northern Kentucky Youth Development Center. “My greatest passion is to help those who are less fortunate than me,” she says. “I have always wanted to help people... in any way, shape or form. Getting my degree means that I can make a mark on this world.”
