SPORTS ACADEMY

As a member of our Sports Academy you will train on a Wednesday afternoon.

Teams will compete with other Sixth Forms and colleges. All those students who are selected to play as part of a team will receive a sports kit. At the moment, we are offering netball and football, but hope to expand this in the future. We are offering this opportunity in partnership with Walbottle, in order to create strong competitive teams.

SPORTS LEADERS

Young people undertaking a qualification in Sports Leadership will learn and demonstrate important life skills such as effective communication

and organisation whilst learning to lead basic physical activities to younger people, their peers, older generations and within the community.

The course involves both guided and peer-to-peer learning and supervised leadership to ensure that learners have all the skills they need to lead basic physical activities to other people.

The Level 3 Qualification in Sports Leadership (SL3) carries UCAS points.

EXTENDED PROJECT QUALIFICATION

The Extended Project Qualification aims to inspire, enthuse and motivate learners by providing them with the skills that Higher Education institutions look for through the encouragement of independent study. This gives students the freedom to work in their own way to complete a project based either on a subject they are studying or in an area of personal interest. At Walbottle Academy Sixth Form we give every student the opportunity to complete the Extended Project qualification. This is delivered as an independent research project in a topic of the student’s choice and all students are supported by a teacher acting as their project supervisor. The qualification is suitable for developing transferable skills such as planning, research, data analysis and evaluation as part of either an academic or vocational curriculum, through the management of a skills based assessed assignment.

The EPQ is worth half an A-Level, it is graded and carries UCAS points.

“We welcome the introduction of the Extended Project and would encourage you to undertake one as it will develop your independent study and research skills and ease the transition from schoolIcollege to higher education.”

University of Cambridge

“If you have undertaken the Extended Project, this may be taken into account if you do not achieve the conditions of your offer.”

London School of Economics

“We have an increasingly compelling evidence base that students who did well at EPQ settle in well to their studies, we are keen to see more of them.”

University of Southampton
