Inspiring generations Our studios in Leeds are home to our professional Company of over 40 full-time dancers and the Academy of Northern Ballet, the leading centre for dance training in the North of England. Recent graduates of our programmes have been awarded places at English National Ballet School, Elmhurst, Central Ballet School, and Royal Conservatoire of Scotland and contracts with national and international companies including Northern Ballet.

In addition to our commitment to training the dancers of the future, we also discover and develop choreographers both from within the Company and externally, securing talent both for the future of Northern Ballet and the creative industry as a whole.

I take great pride in the supportive environment we are creating to nurture and inspire the next generation of dancers, choreographers and arts leaders. We are committed to sharing the diverse voices of the UK today, ensuring individuals facing barriers to participation and representation have the opportunity to share their stories and be part of ours.

David Nixon OBE, Artistic Director

A chance to shine As part of Northern Ballet’s commitment to securing talent for the future of worldclass ballet, we are expanding our outreach programmes and the types of training we offer. This will give more young people the golden opportunity to immerse themselves in the arts, allowing their confidence and creativity to flourish, regardless of background or circumstance. A key focus for development will be two existing Academy Programmes, delivered across the region: > Our Academy’s Spotted! programme identifies and trains gifted and talented young dancers through specialist workshops in schools and in the community. Much of this work is targeted at schools with high levels of pupils with protected characteristics. > The Kitten Programme, our feeder programme for our Centre for Advanced Training (CAT), aimed at 7 – 11 year olds, will be further developed to offer more opportunities to harness enthusiasm and develop raw talent by providing tailor-made support for students that the Academy feels have the potential to pursue specialist ballet training.

13

Digital futures To complement our acclaimed artistic work on stage, Northern Ballet will present a pioneering programme of digital work from 2019 onwards. Our Digital Futures programme will: > Reach and engage new and diverse audiences, breaking-down barriers to accessing the arts and allowing even more people to experience ballet as part of their everyday digital lives. > Develop emerging talent through collaboration across creative arts disciplines and further engage our community. > Create compelling new works specifically for film, challenge preconceptions about ballet and allow us to take even more artistic risks. > Innovate using cutting-edge digital technology in videography, lighting and sound.

14

Digital distribution will reach a substantially increased and more diverse audience and will offer our sponsors opportunities for brand alignment across multiple digital platforms and accompanying communications campaigns, including highly engaged in-cinema and online audiences. In 2019, Northern Ballet will: > Stream selected large scale productions to the cinema nationally and internationally.

> A scheduled recorded relay of Victoria into cinema in Spring 2019 will be shown on 650 screens worldwide (300 UK & Ireland, 100 Europe, 150 North America, 100 Rest of World: Australia, NZ, SA, China) with a minimum estimated audience of 25k. > Dracula will be live-streamed in October 2019 into 300 cinemas across the UK and Ireland (and an additional 300 global screens) with a minimum estimated audience of 25k. > Broadcast selected large scale productions on TV.
