SELF-GUIDED TOUR

EXPLORE NORTHEASTERN AT YOUR OWN PACE

Welcome!

Use this guide alongside your campus map to explore the spaces and places that make Northeastern a university like no other. Be sure to scan this QR code to access our audio tour and listen along the route. Ready? Let’s get started.

WV-F Start your tour outside the Visitor Center (WV-F: B1) and take a left to get to Centennial Common—a popular place to hang out between classes. Depending on the season, you may find students relaxing in hammocks, throwing a Frisbee, or building a snowman.

Centennial Common is also an academic hub. The open green space is surrounded by several academic buildings containing classrooms, faculty offices, laboratories, studios, and workspaces.

As you head toward Centennial Common, you’ll pass the John D. O’Bryant African American Institute (AF: B1). The Institute, established in 1968 and later renamed in 1993 in honor of John D. O’Bryant, supports students of the African Diaspora by providing a welcoming environment as well as career development workshops, mentors, and resources to give back to communities.

Centennial Common

LC Now, make your way toward Forsyth Street. On the far side of Centennial Common, you’ll see Ruggles Station, which connects the campus to hundreds of other stops and destinations through the subway and commuter rail. Ruggles Station features one of the largest pieces in our campus public art initiative, a mural titled “Joy” by Silvia López Chavez.

As you head across Forsyth Street, you’ll see the Latinx Student Cultural Center (LC: B2) on your left. Opened in 1997, the LSCC empowers Latinx leaders of tomorrow through academic, personal, and professional development opportunities. Be sure to stop by and see the colorful murals featured on the outside of the building.

SL Next, head to Snell Library (SL: B2), the largest academic library in Boston. Snell houses computers, a 3D printing studio, reservable study rooms, a tea shop for refreshments, and plenty of space to work.

With expert librarians, walk-in research assistance, our own archives, and more than 1 million books and e-books, Snell Library has the resources you need to deepen your learning across every discipline.

ISEC Take the bridge over to the Interdisciplinary Science and Engineering Complex (ISEC: B3) to see some of the spaces where students conduct groundbreaking research as early as their first year. As an R1 research institution, Northeastern empowers students to uncover solutions to challenges in healthcare, security, sustainability, and beyond.

EXP While you’re on this side of the bridge, make sure to check out one of the newest buildings on campus, a 350,000-square-foot, state-of-theart research center called EXP, which will further our commitment to creating a globally networked ecosystem for experiential learning, innovation, and entrepreneurship.

CS Next, head back over the bridge toward the Curry Student Center (CSC: C2), which supports 500+ student clubs and organizations through the Center for Student Involvement, as well as professional, cultural, social, and service-based Greek organizations. Here you’ll find everything from Student Government Association meetings to Ballroom Dance Team rehearsals.

Through the glass wall, you’ll see the Curry Food Court, which has a market, several restaurants, and a café. Students can grab a quick

16:1student-to-faculty ratio

bite or a full meal, and find ample seating to relax, study, and connect with friends.

Within the Curry Student Center is the Office of City and Community Engagement, which offers countless opportunities to give back. You can also enroll in one of 100+ Service-Learning course sections across eight different colleges to perform volunteer work.

You’ll find the Center for Intercultural Engagement inside the Curry Student Center. Students can engage in transformational experiences that result in cross-cultural understanding and inclusion for all. You’ll also find the LGBTQA Resource Center in the CSC, which provides information, support, affinity spaces, and other resources for the Northeastern lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, questioning, and asexual communities and their allies.

EL Make your way up the stairs toward Huntington Avenue, and you’ll find Ell Hall (EL: C2) and Krentzman Quad. To skip the stairs altogether, go through Cabot Quad and take a right on Huntington Avenue, and you’ll arrive at the same destination. Inside Ell Hall is Blackman Auditorium— our 992-seat theater, which hosts student performances, concerts, and guest speakers. Make sure you rub the bronze nose of King Husky in the lobby for good luck.

Ell Hall is also where you’ll find the Center for Spirituality, Dialogue, and Service, which attends to the spiritual needs of the Northeastern community. The center builds partnerships across university departments, religious communities, and public service agencies to help students become engaged citizens, peace builders, and leaders equipped to tackle pressing global problems.

Here, you’ll also find the Office of Global Services, which supports international students, scholars, and their families by providing guidance and professional expertise while helping them get acclimated to life at Northeastern.

Husky Pride: A short distance from Ell Hall is Matthews Arena (MA: D3), where you can enjoy a Husky hockey or basketball game— students attend free of charge. With 19 Division I teams and an unrivaled school spirit, you’ll find yourself cheering along in no time. If you’re more into playing than watching, we also offer 25 intramural sports leagues and more than 60 club sports.

SP Take the crosswalk across Huntington Avenue to take a closer look at three of our first-year residence and dining halls—Speare (SP: C1), Stetson West (SW: C1), and Stetson East (SE: C1).

In your first year, you’ll join one of 20+ Living Learning Communities (LLC) as part of your university housing experience. These LLCs connect students who share a particular interest, field of study, or passion—fostering friendships and a supportive environment.

Additional Resources: Just a few blocks away on Hemenway Street is the Asian American Center (AC: D1), which increases visibility and establishes a dynamic presence of the Asian American community at the university. The Asian American Center aims to support student exploration of social identity development and empower students to take an active role in shaping their experiences at Northeastern.

In addition, the Catholic Center (CC: D2) and Northeastern Hillel (HF: D2) are just a couple blocks down on St. Stephen Street.

MC Down Huntington toward Forsyth Street is the Marino Recreation Center (MC: C1), one of five campus exercise facilities. From strength training and cardio equipment to fitness classes and intramurals, it’s easy to stay in shape. On the ground floor of Marino Recreation Center is Wollaston’s, our campus grocery store, and a great place to stop for a snack.

WV Another crosswalk will take you back across Huntington Avenue toward West Village (WV: A1), home to suite- and apartment-style university housing. The Northeastern campus has various housing options, each unique and made to provide the best living experience for every student looking to feel right at home.

The Office of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion is also located in West Village. This office promotes the university’s commitment to equal opportunity, affirmative action, diversity, and social justice while building a climate of inclusion, on and off campus.

West Village F brings you back to our Visitor Center, where your tour began. Thank you for coming to our Boston campus. We hope you enjoyed your visit.
