Acceptance of Associate Degrees

Students graduating with an approved Illinois Community College Board Model Associate of Arts, Associate of Science or Associate of Arts in Teaching degree will be granted junior standing and will have fulfilled Northeastern’s General Education-Distributive Learning requirements.

Admission Requirements

• Minimum cumulative GPA: 2.0

• A maximum of 90 credit hours may be transferred from accredited four-year institutions.

• A maximum of 64 credit hours may be transferred from a regionally accredited community college.

• Submit final official transcripts from all colleges previously attended.

AFFORDABLE EXCELLENCE

Grants and Scholarships

• Pell Grants: Up to $7,395 in grant funds for U.S. citizens or permanent residents. Must submit a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) or RISE Act application listing Northeastern’s school code: 001693.

• Illinois MAP Grants: Up to $8,064, grant money for Illinois residents. Must submit a FAFSA or RISE Act application listing Northeastern’s school code: 001693.

• Golden Opportunity (AIM High) Scholarship: Up to $4,500 per year for students with a 3.0+ GPA and family adjusted gross income that cannot exceed $95,000. Must be an Illinois resident and graduate of an Illinois high school. FAFSA or RISE Act application required. Other scholarship criteria apply.

• NEIU For You: Tuition gap scholarship after federal and state grants and scholarships are determined (up to 12 credit hours). Must be a newly admitted full-time transfer student in a degree program with a family income that does not exceed $75,000, transfer GPA of 2.0 and have previously attended a two-year or four-year Illinois college or university. Must submit a FAFSA or RISE Act application listing Northeastern’s school code: 001693. View full criteria at neiu.edu/foryou.

• Academic Merit (Provost or Dean’s) Scholarship: A one-time additional award of $2,000 for students with a 3.5+ cumulative GPA or $1,000 for students with a 3.03.49 GPA. No application required.

• University Honors Program (UHP) Scholarships: Up to $2,500 for 3.5+ cumulative GPA. Must submit an application at neiu.edu/honors.

• City Colleges of Chicago (CCC) Star Scholarship: Up to $5,000 per year available to CCC Star Scholars transferring to Northeastern. Must submit “Star Scholarship” application via neiu.edu/transfer before transferring to Northeastern. Please see the transfer website for complete criteria.

• The Nest Living Learning Communities (LLC) Housing Scholarship: Students who are accepted into an LLC are eligible to receive a one-year housing scholarship that covers 50% of room costs for The Nest. View full criteria at neiu.edu/LLC.
