Life Can Really

SUCK! publisher’s note “Jordan Lee!” I can hear my sweet, Scandinavian mother saying that with a not-so-pleased look on her face, as she reads the title of this publisher’s note. Sorry, Mom. It is true, though! As my dad always told me about the wind, “It doesn’t blow; it sucks.” Poetic. But like the wind, life too can also suck. Loved ones pass, relationships die, financial issues arise, diseases take hold, terrorist attacks occur, families fall apart, businesses crumble, and tragedies happen all the time. However, I’d like you to think back on your life for a moment. Think of a time that had an incredible amount of suck in it. A time that caused you immense pain and hardship. At that time in your life, it probably felt like everything was against you and that you would never bounce back. But, is it not true that as the time passes, and the sting fades, that these terrible periods in our life often become our greatest blessings?

Pam came out victorious. Although this experience was terrible, and Pam would never wish it upon someone else, Pam also attributes that period of extreme turmoil as the reason for her current appreciation and gratitude toward life. Having that experience showed Pam what was truly important and how truly blessed she is.

the greater the challenge, the greater the reward, and that our greatest pain can be our greatest gift to ourselves and the world. So, embrace the suck and let life hurt, because when it is all said and done, we will be better because of it.
